@gabby131

auto search by text input now seems to work in a lot more places than i remember on older firmware e.g conversations, filemanger, app manager as mentioned, even the media player.

Also app manager gives you the option to update all at once...(pretty niftty that)

The option to update all was there in PR1.1.1 as well, it was just hidden in the menu :) I am sorry for you that you didn't find it (;

With PR 1.1 when you are using FM transmitter and then plug in the charger the transmitter will reduce it's power output to an unusable level.

You then have to restart the whole deal in order for it to work properly.

Has the FM transmitter been fixed in this leaked version?

Fix what?
You refer to FMboost disabled by usb, but that is not a bug.
FMtransmitter must be working "by default" with the power levels defined by Nokia for each country.
Simply, use the desktop widget to make overpowering more easy.

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

I installed the leaked version yesterday.

Today I get the following exciting update message when I run Update from App Mgr:

Maemo 5
Portrait browsing, Internet video calling, e-mail widget, email and calendar improvements, v (the rest is off the screen)

However, when I try to run it I get the message about needing Nokia PC Suite. ("Connect device to PC via USB cable and open Nokia PC Suite. The application will guide you through the rest of the Maemo update.)

Also, under Problems I get Unable to update 'Maemo 5'
Application packages missing: 'hildon-home(=0.3.66-2+0m5)

When I run PC Suite I get encouraging messages but at the end it tells me that I am already up to date.

Do others get this?

It's also there when notified to update by the yellow blinky. When there are more than one new updates, you are given the option to update all IIRC.

No I do not...

Forget FM Boost or any other program for a minute. Forget what freakin' country you are in.

Now start up Media Player without the charger or USB plugged in.

Set up FM transmitter and broadcast yourself to your dang FM receiver at whatever power level Nokia deems fit,

Listen to your tunes.

Code:

Now plug in your charger.

BAM!

Power output from FM transmitter is reduced.

Does this^ behavior still exist? (Our hero asks again, to no one in particular.)

If so, please 'splain to me again why this is a feature and not a bug.

My country didn't change when I walked from my couch to my desktop to plug in my charger.

I think it's Bug 6792

Which is supposed to be fixed in 1.2

Re: [Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread

I overclock the leaked successufully with titan .24 kernel.
With a clock speed of 900 now my n900 is really bad ***... finally can al least compete with 3gs snd n1 in browser speed.

anyway the overall experience of the 1.2 leaked is quite good and other than a desktop widget bug I do not have any problem.

The portrait mode looks more a debug mode than a real feature

I installed leaked PR1.2 and did not die...

As the title says, I flashed my N900 to the leaked PR1.2 using this blog post and then rebooted it.

Before I go into the details, I should qualify two factors that enabled me to do this:
  1. I've reflashed handset firmware almost 1000 times on WinMo and Nokia devices over the years
  2. I waited until enough other reports about leaked PR1.2 had accumulated so that my expectations of it would be reasonable

So if you've not got some experience re-flashing, I recommend patience and do your homework first!

The device rebooted no problem, and upon exploring the new firmware, here's a few things I've noticed/liked:
  1. "About Product" screen indicates 'Version: 10.2010.12-9
  2. "VOIP and IM Accounts" includes Facebook chat via the @chat.facebook.com server
  3. "Sharing Accounts" includes an MMS service you can configure
  4. "Photos" application includes bulk 'Share images' feature
  5. "Contacts" application includes "Import from Exchange Server" feature for individual contacts
  6. "App Manager" now includes an 'Update All' button when there are software updates
  7. All original apps were restored, while some personal settings were retained (I restored from a backup to get missing apps/settings)
  8. A new 'Email Widget' shows # of unread emails per account on the desktop (YAY!)
  9. RootFS indicates 100megs of free space after restoring all my apps!

Things I need to re-implement/fix (because re-flashing eliminated them, just like any reflash would):
  • Add 'reboot' option to power-key menu
  • remove shadows from Desktop icons
  • Restore system-wide use of Droid fonts
  • Google Contacts sync via Nuevasync seems buggy (full functionality not yet working) [EDIT: Fixed by simply deselecting Calendar/Task in Settings panel, forcing Full Resynchronization of just Contacts info, then reselecting Calendar/Task syncing.]

I've also noticed that more of my original settings are retored with each reboot. So for example, upon first reboot my MSN/YAH!/AIM accounts were not shown in the "VOIP and IM accounts" panel, but after a few reboots they were.

Overall impressions are good. It works, it's not crashing, the browser is faster, and portrait-mode in the apps, especially Inbox and Conversations, is really great to have.

YMMV, and of course, your choice to reflash your device is all yours.

EDIT: I must add a BIG THANKS to Nokia devs for their work. Unleaked as this firmware may be, based on the improvements it brings to an already terrific device suggests (to me) the team is working hard on the right things. Thank you whomever you are.
