Re: Update: SD/SDHC Card Trashing - Nokia Admit There's a Problem

I know that I tried that tabbed browser... that was before I installed the MicroB engine. Maybe it is so that the MicroB does not support tabbed browsing, and those other new features, and to keep the options consistent/compatible between the browsers the new options are removed after the MicroB install?

(Eh? Doesn't sound too believable explanation???)

Those things should not be engine-relevant, but just relevant to the interface that handles the "boxes", the engine just shows up the rendered page wherever the UI tells it to.

I've looked at the rootfs image and apart from /var/lib/dpkg/ changes (pretty much irrelevant) and new dates on /etc/gconf/ files there aren't that many changes. The list (the above excluded) follows below:

For now I'm going to ignore all of those, except that I'll take that /etc/osso_software_version file and copy it onto my N800.

Obviously I don't recommend this partial install to _anyone_.. it's your own call alone. I'm trying to avoid having to reflash the image for now, so I installed only the kernel plus one or a few of the above files.

Re: Update: SD/SDHC Card Trashing - Nokia Admit There's a Problem

Okay. I see what's going on now. Opera appears to have another menu underneath Close called Advance... here's the menu structure.

Advanced
- Engine
- Set Default
- MicroB
- Opera
- Webcore (disabled)
- Change now
- MicroB
- Opera
- Webcore (disabled)
- View
- Tab View
- Box View
- Win View
- Policy
- Global
- Limited Java Script
- Full Java Script (default selected)
- Google
- Limited Java Script
- Full Java Script (default selected)
- Log Messages (default unchecked)

Very interesting. Anything else?

Stupid forum removes the extra space in front of the items... but if I edit the post, I can see the spaces again. Oh well.

by the way, to all you people asking for tabbed browsing... here you go... but wow, that is SO not how you do tabbed browsing. Oh well, I told you so.

Also, it could be that the options appear only when Opera is the current engine.

Probably not so obvious to end user: such as new video/audio codecs, etc... but I haven't confirmed this by myself. Anyone tried WMV-files?

Well that was supposed to be revealed during the next (maybe) software upgrade. So what you see is just the developer/debug "view" of it. It'll be ironed out a lot before coming out. But at least we know it's coming :) and we know that Nokia (i.e. the maemo team) listens to us.
That's to say a lot.

Checking with Videocenter...may be mediaplayer can play new video/audio formats.

I somehow doubt that... but you never know. If the list above is to be believed, the MIME types were touched... but I don't see anything related to media player listed.

I can change the engine (the default one) (MicroB and Opera can be selected, while WebCore is not..)
In the same "advanced menu" there is now "Tab view, Box view, Win view"...
Moreover there is a policy meny "Limited Java script, Full Java script" global or google related.

Great.. so there's a lot more!

EDIT: MicroB is version 1.0.1 and you've to manually install it from the apps. But theres is the new Advanced where you can find new options (some are randomly listed above).
Opera is still "8.5 Internal", build 2.0.43 (dunno which build was before).

UPDATE: Weird thing is, the Advanced menu is not there anymore.. after I've installed the MicroB browser from the apps menu it disappeared. Removing it doesn't bring it back.

Oh man.. I'm lost...
I remember this from the last firmware upgrade. Once you install MicroB it all goes and you can't get it back.

Also
http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_80293
"up to 8 GB memory card support.."
We had assumed that this kernel provided support for the full sdhc standard i.e. up to 32gb, does this mean that the new 16gb cards are not supported or is it a mistake on the part of the author?
