Thanks Sachin, for the timely reassurance. Total noob that I am, I was also able to do this.

Thanks also Nokia and the Maemo team. Sorry I couldn't wait:rolleyes: I know there are still things to be worked out, but I'm delighted to see how it is going and really look forward to rebuilding my N800. This new OS is quite cool!

edit: just tried it with gmail. I can actually use the thumb board to write an email w/out it totally screwing up! This is great...

I just tried to pair my iBlue unit as well. It gave me 'Pairing Failed. Authentication Failed." Any ideas on what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance.

Yowza.. finally got in, and can post! (long story involves waving chicken bones at midnight under a full moon etc.) OK the question was asked about recommending a small live Linux that can be used to load an image to a n800. http://damnsmalllinux.org/ is what I would recommend. Less than 50MB download and it's got all you need to read NTSF file systems etc. However if you need to write, you would be best to have a small dos partition (fat32 type) as ntfs write is not easily supported.

I'm a noob with Linux and the N800. I tried to flash the firmware in Ubuntu 7.10 and it didn't work. This is the error I got at the end:

USB device found found at bus 001, device address 003
Found device RX-34, hardware revision 1301
NOLO version 1.1.6
Version of 'sw-release': <no version>
Sending and flashing rootfs image (128256 kB)...
100% (128256 of 128256 kB, avg. 7057 kB/s)
Finishing flashing... Sending request 0x52 failed!
Unable to get error strings: Connection timed out

Anybody has any idea of how to fix this? Thanks.

Jupex,

here is where two worlds colide. Linux users are used to the Beta cycles and the 'ooooops' syndrome of bleeding edge beta's I've had to face the problem of fixing a beta that won't boot until I put in the patch that I need to boot to put in. (In the old days this was solved by dual linux installs or slackware CD 2, now it's a live CD)

In the end I understand your point, and I understand how Linux people feel. We live by the credo release early, release often. IMHO if I load beta software and it bricks.. oops. If I load final and it causes me to lose several SD cards, I'm a tad peeved to say the least.

So the quick grab for those who are Linux heads, well, riding the edge is part of the fun.

I confirm this.
