Hello - I'm new here, I hope I don't violate too many rules right away...

I have been reading through this thread that has been going for almost two years now. I still can't make up my mind whether to change my GPS receiver and would appreciate your help very much!

My N770 came with the Nokia LD-3W. There's many things I like a lot about it:

- uses the same charger as the N770
- is small and well designed, looks rugged, is most likely rainproof and the one button is quite safe from accidental push
- lasts a whole day, and often more, on battery

I am not impressed with the time that it takes to acquire position, especially when moving, i.e. on the train etc. Also it seems very good in the open field to maintain signal, but when in built-up areas it does drop off sometimes. Now from reading this thread I know not to expect instant acquisition, but again, I often find myself getting impatient with this one. And later in the year I am heading for Japan, a country that has given "built-up" a proper definition :-)

The LD-3W uses the SiRF Star III. Is that still the bees knees, or desperately old tat? Is it worth upgrading to a different receiver?
I like the data logging function of the i-Blue 747 as I don't always want to take the N770 with me when I go for a walk. But the design is not so amazing, especially the button. I could not find any reference to it's size anywhere - how does it compare in size to the LD-3W? How do the Holux receivers compare in size, and can they be charged with the Nokia charger?

Have I missed another worthy alternative? Or should I stick with the LD-3W?

Hi I have an n800 and a i-blue 747 the 32mb version. I have been trying to connect but no luck. It sees the device under bluetooth but show the device as uncategorized. any help.

OK quick update. It appears I have a v2 of the 747.
Also I got it to work with MaemoMapper and RoadMap by forcing the GPS devices bluetooth in the gps device box.

I just bought the Amod ABG 108 gps unit and it works great with Maemo Mapper!

Siraya Bluetooth GPS Receiver (BTH-10H)

$35 GPS from Amazon. Unboxed today and it located quickly (a few seconds). Haven't left the house with it yet, so no details about it's performance.

Startup Time: Almost immediately when near the location where it was turned off. About 30 sec when moved 200 miles.
Sensitivity: Very sensitive. It gets a lock inside my house with steel siding and closed metal blinds.
Rating: 9/10
Battery Life: Rechargeable. I haven't run it out yet.

It would only be better if it was driverless and mounted like a flash drive to retrieve data.
