Maybe, but my future is bright and beautiful. With or without Apple.

Remember Apple's 1984 commercial? Isn't that ironic?
I do, and it is. And even though it's just marketing, it certainly would be interesting to have an honest comment from Mr. Jobs about this. And at that very moment, a monkey would then fly out of my butt.

Just read the eweek article - awful writing and page is a mess.

Basically what the "journalist" is saying we should have a monopoly running our OSes. Every device should run the same OS.

I remember this guy who used to run a software company years ago said his mission statement was "Our software running on every PC".

I think he got into trouble with the US government and his company was found guilty of running a monopoly - leveraging his OS to enter other software markets and eliminating his competition.

Anyone who has been in this industry for long enough understands how inept and utterly rotten the IT mainstream press has become.

eweek should be named eweak - one of the many "Press" websites I avoid simply because they have no idea what they are talking about and no sense of history. If he had any brains he would have realised how stupid he sounded.

I think we already had a thread about this argument and agreed that Google is indeed evil.

These are the main reasons:

They forked the Linux kernel and didn't care to fix the incompatibilities their code introduced. So the kernel maintainers deleted their code from the kernel. http://www.kroah.com/log/linux/andro...-problems.html

They travelled around when they created their Street View service, taking photos and breaking the privacy of lots of people.

In the process, they also stole passwords and e-mail addresses wherever they found open wi-fi networks.

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3/news/2264542/...rusted-privacy

They disclosed a security vulnerability in Windows to the general public before Microsoft even had the time to fix it.

Their toolbar collects the list of URLs that you've visited and sends them to Google, even if you disable this functionality.

Their viewpoint on privacy is simply unacceptable.

They patented the layout of having a single text box and two buttons on a screen.
Just how ridiculous is that?

Regardless... fanboys of all types annoy me. And the day Sony took Linux off my "fat" PS3 bothered me. And the day I were to welcome iOS4 onto my PS3, I'll kill.

I'd rather use WebOS in some areas than iOS4.

He missed the most obvious usecase: iOS4 on a dead badger.

At least with linux that was possible:

i sure hope that was irony.

ok, i know blackberry stated it with email sigs, and to some extent it makes sense there as a hint as to why the reply may have been oddly short.

but now it seems to show up in all kinds of text fields where a iphone or ipad have perhaps been used as input device, and i cant say for sure if its the user thats typing it (tho it being in forum code italic is a nice hint) or the device doing it automatically.

There's nothing wrong in forking GPLed stuff.

(Emphasis mine)

Which probably ends up being a good thing, as it raises the awareness of general public to the privacy issues caused by not turning on encryption in your WiFi box.

Of course, if you seriously think they were going to hack into those e-mail accounts, the story becomes different... But if that was their intention, why did they bring up the issue themselves?

It's a fault of the system that grants such patents.

This is actually quite nasty, but the very topic of the article you're linking to says "Googler", not "Google". Also:

Quote:

a Google spokesperson said: "Tavis acted independently using research conducted in his own time. Tavis' personal views on disclosure don't necessarily reflect the views of his colleagues at Google or Google as a whole."

I do not wish to take sides on debate whether they're evil or not. Just pointing out that evilness of some the items mentioned is not that obvious.

I wouldn't call my self a fanboy of nokia, I like a lot of other phones and platforms, but I just can't stand Apple. In general!

I dont want a macbook, an ipod, an iphone... nothing! Ive kindve grown to hate apple and the way they control things (not with macbook but just comes with the territory).

Really frustrates me when I see developers build only for the iphone, they are just making a monopoly for apple
