Any phone for which MMS is a broken hack of a message transmission system is a smartphone.

Were I regularly getting MMS messages, I'd be wishing AT&T could just catch and send them to me as e-mails (which is how things like that should be handled.)

To anyone and everyone saying that the N8 UI will become more fluid/responsive (with or without apps open) AFTER some firmware updates, please reconsider.

The firmware updates you so deeply look forward to are, more likely than not, never going to come.

**BEST ADVICE: When you go to purchase your phone, buy it for what it is capable of doing RIGHT THEN, not for what it will, probably, maybe, possibly, be capable of doing in the future. You will get ****ed over if you do not follow this.

Hmmm, I see what you mean.

I can run a full linux install via Easy Debian.
I can play various emulators like NES, Gameboy color, Gameboy Advance, C64, ZX spectrum and soon SEGA megadrive.
I can write software via Python.
The web browser can render proper versions of sites like google and facebook. I don't need an app or need to use the reduced mobile versions.
I can use a powerful paint package called mypaint.
I also run a full install of django on the web server on my N900.

I can't MMS.......oh wait FMMS is installed and MMS works perfectly.

Nokia shouldn't have caved to the fruitcakes, capacitive was already a bad idea before they even drew the device on a napkin

Guys I am not too sure if I want this thread to be about Symbian bashing, or how great Maemo is, or how many mistakes Nokia has made.

I just want your opinions on the Nokia N8 and is it worth getting the phone. So far, only a few people including lpotter have actually contributed to my questions!

So lpotter, I want to ask you. What kind of things do you like about the N8? I just want assurances that Symbian 3 is not a s slow and as buggy as previous versions.

If you can go into more detail about the phone that would be great!

Well yes. The 5800 is two years old, and still receives updates. Now it has full kinetic scrolling and talk navigation amongst other things. It is also the touch screen phone that is sold in most units, more than 50 millions, and is still selling. Show me an Android phone (HTC, Samsung, whatever) that comes close to this, there are none.

With all the negativism here, it is strange than Nokia doesn't close down the site, pull the plug on the funding.

The N8 will be a massive hit, but I guess the C6-01 will sell more due to the price, and maybe also the C7. So what will it be; N8, C6, C7, E7? or wait for the N9? :) hmmmm.

N8 will be a massive hit because of the camera. If the samples are to be believed, there is no phone on the market even close. Period. People will not be flocking to it because they think the OS and apps (except for free sat-nav) are awesome.

You are right. Anyway, I think Symbian^3 looks great, like a continuation of Maemo in both looks and feel. At the same time, those with updated S60 5th edition, will also feel at right at home (except for the blue fingered lady :) )

Your constant Symbian/Nokia bashing is really helping build the 'community' and really encourages developers to create apps for the N900/N9/Symbian^3.

MeeGo's fate is tied to Symbian whether you like it or not! Symbian is in over 40% of all the phones sold on the planet and will remain dominant and relevant for a long time whether you like it or not.

If Google and Apple are the best, why are you still here? Move the f*ck on and stop polluting these boards with your garbage.

This is exactly the culture at Nokia that the new CEO needs to change.
Calling a turd, a turd is not bashing... its being realistic.
People are criticizing Nokia because they want them to do better, no other reason.

The response can never be "move on to Google or Apple", the response should be:

"we, at Nokia can do better. This is what we should change"...

not keep clinging to the past.

I have pretty much only owned Nokia phones, that's something I don't want to change.. but I'm quickly loosing patience
