I also opened bug #1685 as it doesn't seem possible to enter shifted characters using the "sliding upstroke" method on the virtual keyboard. |
Re: Mozilla-based Browser for the Nokia N800
Did you reboot your device afterwards? Close and reopen the browser itself after installation?
I didn't do anything special to enable that, it was just "there", but I remember reading somewhere in here (or maemo?) some sort of option to enable that. |

I don't have the switch engine option either. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted and taken the battery out and restarted and every combination thereof. I am pretty sure that the new browser is installed (as some pages render differently), I just don't have the option of toggling to the old rendering engine. I am running the most recent firmware and restored my data from previous backup.
Some problems I am noticing: -map tiles not appearing in google maps -www.escapepod.org title image only partially loads -If I have flash turned on, the above page crashes (which was the same with just Opera install). |
Re: Mozilla-based Browser for the Nokia N800
my thoughts and discoveries:
*tiddlywiki saving works now when you open the file locally, just like on any other computer! (no more strange backends for saving - yay!) - the only problem is that you get a bunch of mozilla security popups that you can correct with the addition of a user.js in ~/.mozilla/minib/ (err.. can't remember the directory name exactly) - i'll post specific instructions tomorrow! =] *youtube seems slower now - doesn't seem to play smoothly even after the video's completely loaded =/, BUT with a good mplayer plugin for firefox (i believe one already exists in the x86/x86_64 linux realm) we could just have mplayer do the dirty work for us! =] *as someone mentioned earlier - google reader works! huzzah! now give me gears / offline sync support and i'll be sold! - or better yet, home page integration so google reader feeds show up there - hopefully this will become a reality as nokia and google seem somewhat close, but as far as i know, gears is only for x86 for now =/ is it just me, or is it ironic that the install page for the browser doesn't render correctly in the original opera maemo browser? =P - and no, i did not take time to read the entire thread, so i apologize in advance for stating the obvious if i did x.x |
Re: Mozilla-based Browser for the Nokia N800
I also tried uninstalling etc, then...
Switch engine option found, following instruction from much earlier in this thread I edited /home/user/.browser to make "hidden=true". Now I have back scrolling with finger drags on Wikipedia pages, thanks to Opera. |
Re: Mozilla-based Browser for the Nokia N800
Thanks, editing the .browser file worked for me. I wonder why this option appears enabled for some people and not others? Could it be related to having done a restore from backup after upgrading to the new firmware?

Re: Mozilla-based Browser for the Nokia N800
New browser is working great for me, doesn't choke on certain sites that Opera used to. I like the new RSS feed button to quickly add feeds, plus the ability to switch engines is nice also. I have the option in the menu bar, seems like a few of you didn't get that option.
Only thing I noticed was that I had to put my forum logins and passwords again, but no big deal, now they are saved. Even with a few bugs and glitches, Nokia is definitely going the right direction with the new Mozilla browser. Are we N800 users getting spoiled, or what? It sure has been a very good 10 days or so on the upgrade front. At this rate, we should have A2DP, SlingPlayer, and all the other stuff we've been asking for by the beginning of August :D |
