If NOT, try to USB cable to your tablet and use your tablet, maybe it wont work... bun |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
I don't have an SDHC card reader so I wound up using it thru my tablet (USB cable) like I usually do. And it only shows up those 11 GBs even after the Panasonic is done through it. Before, when the partitions would be messed up even that would fix it back to the full size.
*sighs* looks like I'm going have to get this card replaced through the warranty. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
How about sfdisk ?
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
Hmm no good, it's not even showing up the right amount of cylinders compared to the count most people have. I'm just going send it back to A-Data and get a replacement (hopefully).
Edit: Hmm.. A-Data's RMA form is really annoying (It asks for a serial # which I input but it always errors out.. I even tried using my 4 GB A-Data card and it still errors). So I sent an email. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
it works great! i use it to clone my diablo to internel SD and it work very well.
but here i have another question: my n800's default boot device is flash, and i want to set it to booting from my internel SD card, how can i do that? i mean, can i customize the bootmenu? |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
it says ''memory card is incorrectly formated or corrupted. device can try to repair card''. after i tried to install. what do i do from here? it does nothing when i try to repair.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i've gone into xterm and entered rm -rf /device/* and nothing happens. i believe i'm in root, it says home usr: but no matter how i type everything into xterm nothing happens. i fortunately took everything off the 2gb card, but it asks to be repaired, i can't see anything on the card when i reformat on the sd. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
the last thing i can see that happened is that it has taken a large chunk of my device and internal memory cards memory. please help me to correct this.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
interesting enough though it was booting up differently ''boot menu'', although i now have way less memory than before the whole process.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
the last issue i have noticed was when i went into xterm and put in "rm -rf /device/*" the program shot off a bunch of information, then rebooted and now just constantly reboots, all it says on the screen is at the top of the screen is (boot from flash). please help

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i may have been confused but from what i read on this forum on page two icelandDreams said it haty they did to make it work and penguinbait said to do this to fix it on page two so i thought i was only following their advice.

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i reinstalled diablo to my device and all the memory is back to normal, and device appears to be fine. but i would like to try this again. so just a couple questions to make sure i do this right. do not install on my sd card (i know), install on the flasher (what is this jus incase i don't have the right idea) then open it from application manager using install file from was this the jest of it? my sd card is empty and the device has only its diablo on it. so from scratch.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
Save the file to your Documents folder.. not on either card (internal/external) in the file manager. That will save it to your flash (assuming you are booted into flash, which you should be, and you haven't made any custom links).
Make sure you only have 1 SD card in the slot on an N800, or if going to N810 internal make sure your external is not in the device. Then run the install from application manager pointing to the file in your Documents folder. Been a while but I am pretty sure that's the process. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
should i be saving it through the computer via usb to my tablet cause that only lets me save it to the sd card, or do i save it to the card and then move it to the document file on the device?
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
You can't download it directly to the tablet??
If you are using a computer then save it to SD, then move it with the file manager.. or bluetooth it over. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
in the process on page one it says right click on the file and save as, since i couldn't right click with a stylus i assumed, lol.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
Nono.. load the page in the tablet and just click and hold on the link.
Holding the stylus down simulates a right click in the tablets environment.. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i love learning more on this tablet i sit there all day just search information to do more on it when i'm not at work. so i did exactly that held down the stylus placed it into the documents, and everything seems ok, memory says the device has 100MB and the 2GB SD card has only 60MB left, so hopefully that sounds right. i don't really mind reinstalling what files i want, many of them i install to learn more about them anyways. thank you for your help. it really became much easier after you explained it for me.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
No Problem..
So I take you were able to install it, reboot, and boot from MMC correct? The 60mb is probably the FAT partition.. if you had a raw diablo with no added packages your 2gb card will actually have like 1.3gb left... run "df -h" in a terminal and your / should show 1.3 or so GB.. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i don't know why but it says booting from flash when i reboot the tablet, is that right? i placed the file on the device in documents and instelled from the application manager so i followed those directions. i'm going to try out the xterm and enter the code you gave.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
make sure when you reboot you are not plugged in.. the device doesn't fully shut off when it's plugged in.

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
it was unplugged
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
something doesn't add up, the internal card says that it has only 408 kb used and 60.4mb total size and 60mb left so something isn't adding up. even the device went down in memory, i reinstalled the diablo to the device and tried to follow the install tools steps. beyond my knowledge lol.

Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
ok i tried ericdkirk's advice and that was a new direction for me, the memory for the device shot up to 389.1MB and the internal card is still at 60mb, it says total size is 60.4mb then 408kb in use then available is 60mb does that sound right? it booted i assume from the card atleast thats what i chose at the boot menu screen.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
is there something else i should do? i'm just being cautious before i begin putting applications on again, is it safe :)
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
check the output of df -h again.. see if you have 1+ GB available on your / partition.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
is there a different deb i should be downloading? instead of install tool should i be using kde install (boot from sd only)
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
No.. thats only if you want KDE.. and only after you're successfully booting to the SD card.
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i installed it all again just for sheer boredom lol, and everything stayed the same, memory was higher for the device after booting from mmc2, but the internal was still 60mb and device is 388.4mb now. i tried xterm and all the info i pasted earlier is still the same, no difference. it did boot from mmc2 sure of that, just curious about the internal memory card. even when i look at file manager internal card has no files in it, should there be?
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
No.. i think that's the fat partition you are seeing.
This is in my MMC booted diablo's df -h: /dev/mmcblk1p2 1.6G 455M 1.1G 29% / /dev/mmcblk0p1 119.7m 30.9m 88.8m 26% /media/mmc2 The first one there is the bulk of the installation on the 1.6G partition. The second line is what shows up in the Internal Card .. a useless FAT partition. U should see something similar. |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
~ $ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/mmcblk0p2 4.0M 2.2M 1.8M 54% /mnt/initfs none 512.0k 88.0k 424.0k 17% /mnt/initfs/tmp /dev/mmcblk0p2 834.3M 400.9M 391.1M 51% / none 512.0k 88.0k 424.0k 17% /tmp none 1.0M 60.0k 964.0k 6% /dev tmpfs 1.0M 0 1.0M 0% /dev/shm /dev/mmcblk0p1 60.4M 408.0k 60.0M 1% /media/mmc2 ~ $ is what xterm says |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
so any ideas?
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
is that a 1GB or 2GB SD card?
You are booted from MMC.. your / has 834MB which is more than the internal Flash on these things.. I just curious why so small.. but it looks to me like it's a 1GB SD card, 800MB used for the OS and 60mb for your FAT partition and probably something quite trivial (64mb?) for your swap |
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
i went to the store to try a new memory card, i had a 2 gb in there but i thought maybe i'd try a new one incase this one has an issue. i'll let you know if it works
|
Re: Clone OS to SD Deb!! Boot from SD made EASY!!
so now with the new 2 gb card it say it is unable to install, and it corrupts the new card. so i reformat it and try again, and get the same response. it only says while installing the the card is corrupt or unformated
