For some reason the battery cover fits tighter than the original which is nice. All installed and working great. Nice work!

How can you fit a FULL SD into a mini sd or micro sd slot (i don't know if the n810 has a micro sd or mini sd slot !)

The following cable and card reader will allow you to read full sized SD cards.

fargos, I think he means the slot itself. This is an adapter then sits in the battery cover, and snakes around into the miniSD slot.

I told him how he could use his card. No doubt that's what he meant but putting 10lbs in a 5lb bag rarely is possible. Other than purchasing the correct miniSD card an adapter is the only choice. There's another option that has been discussed in these forums which envolves buying a kit of parts to modify the N810 to use an SD card.

Yeah, and that's this thread. I'd guess he searched as directed in this thread, but just flung out a post begging for explanation instead of reading even the first post.

Just got the adapter...install went very smoothly - just as advertised. Now if there was a solid metal cover to accommodate that Mugan battery as well, I'd order one in a second! Thanks for your great work.

Speaking about extra storage and battery life:
How many more hours/percent can the 3600mAh battery add? I'm guessing about double in real-world use. I think I can easily find the Mugen batteries at: www.mugen-power-batteries.com

How many gigs should be plenty to load every possible Wayfinder offline map (and then some).

Thanks!

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

To everyone who purchased a Stainless Steel case and the SD adapter

If you get any scratches on it like you did with the original N810 cover they can be remover.

Purchase a 150 to 220 grit soft foam sanding block from some where like home Depot ( not "paper" sand paper, the foam kind).
Remove the case from the Nokia Tablet and place it on a old cloth folded to help protect the clips. You do not want to put too much pressure on the clips while doing this.
Rub the Stainless Steel cover with the soft sanding block straight up and straight down. If you rub with the grain of the steel the scratches will be removed. Use a cleaner to remove the dark color left over. This is easy to clean off and you may not notice it at first. You can also use a mild stainless steel cleaner to remove this residue but always rub with the grain.

The cover should look as good as new. Never rub across the grain ( the long way).

Never do this with the black units. I also removed some minor scratches on the original Nokia N810 battery cover but you should be very careful not to rub too hard if you decide to do this. Test a small corner first.

Thanks again for purchasing my mod kit.

A green Scotchbrite pad works wonderfully for scratch removing too.

The $48.00 does include the metal cover right? I got a little confused with it being listed as included then just above the price it says "Price for kit without metal cover."

I hope to order one soon!

Has anyone come up with an alternate car mount for extended back N810's? I'm looking to move past 16gb and want to retain car mountability.

A universal mount will work. The rubber pads they use grip very well for me.

The metal cover is included for the $48.00 price.

I used a Pro.Fit miGrip mounted sideways with my N800. While I haven't tried it with my N810, I expect it would work just as well for that tablet.

Maybe I am missing something here.. (Possible, Im new to tablet)

But why go through the trouble of the adapter and back replacement when they now sell 16gb high speed Micro SD's?
Why not just use the Micro to MiniSD adapter?
16GB (with the highest performance MicroSD) would be a nigh/day difference compared to the internal 2gb.

Any thoughts..

Ah.. full size SD is larger physically. More durable, less likely to get lost, lately they have released larger GB way before micro or mini SD, right now 32GB is still larger than 16GB and I believe it will be in the near future.......

32 GB is till where the current SDHC protocol has defined. Any future capacity will likely make it into SDXC. This mod might be useful now, but I feel that within 6 months, we'll see microshdc attain 32 gb capacity.

I agree... I would be fine with 16gb upgrade..
So question is, is it possible to just upgrade the MiniSD to 16gb ?

I am still looking for the detailed documents , for what to do after the MiniSD is upgraded.

Partition info/recommendations, etc//

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

At the time when this adaptor was developed microSD was still at 4 or 8GB and had not reached class 6. At that time this adaptor was a really significant upgrade. Now that microSD has reached 16GB albeit not at class 6 as far s I know. It may not be necessary for some folk. But for others with lots of movies, MP3s and maps it may still be worthwhile now and in the near future.

So, when I replace the OEM 2GB with a 16GB, what else do I need to do?
Maybe nothing>? How does it need to be formatted?
Thanks

By "OEM 2GB", do you mean the internal card? It is not replaceable. (At least, it is not replaceable without a hot air soldering station, serious electronics knowledge, skill, and some luck.)

You can replace the external card with a Mini SD/SDHC or a Micro SD/SDHC in a Micro-to-Mini adapter.

Unless you're planning on doing something fancy with it, such as booting from it, the card will come out of the package formatted correctly. You need do nothing more than insert it into your tablet and begin saving files on it.

This is off topic for this thread though.

Any thoughts..

I built this because:

I have two 16GB SD card for what I paid for just one 16GB class 2 microSD for my cell phone. (Not in cell phone any more).

I have one 32GB SD class 6 for the same price I paid for the 16GB MicroSDHC class 2.

You need to use a adapter for the Micro to Mini which many times have bad connections,

I use my tablet every day and waiting for the class 2 micro compared to the 32GB class 6 is major to me.

I have had 3 Micro SD fail completely and no SD card failures

When 16Gb Micro SD class 4 to 6 is available they will be expensive.

When a 32GB micro SD card is available it will be expensive.

When a 32GB Micro SD card is available it will be class 2 to 4.

I do not like being held hostage by companies who release crappy products and make you pay big prices for them then release better products a months later for even more money.
So I try to improve my odds of having what I want when ever I can. I like the tablet but the original 8 GB version was useless for me since I already had a 48GB N800. Now I use it every day.

Also as mentioned today I started this project before you could buy 16GB class 2 micro SDHC.

Also the memory mod was not the only thing I made this for. I want a camera and a tilt sensor, a flash drive and several other mods. The metal cover opens up the tablet for many upgrades.

It is also easier to hold and type on with the metal case

I can go on but I think you get the picture.

I have already sold the metal case to others that are making their own mods, which includes a larger SD card capacity and a phone card.

It is not for everybody but for the people who have already purchased it they love it so far.

So for anyone who still want it there are some left. Once the metal covers are gone there will not be any more

Thanks to all the already purchased.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

I think I was under the impression that the internal storage was on a MiniSD inside under the plastic next to the battery.
So, the mod actually changes the external MiniSD to Standarad SD, correct?

Yes this is correct. You would be able to use the cheaper Standard SD cards and anything else that is available.

ALso in the future when the format changes I may be able to make a new adapter to use the new high capacity format that was announced at the CES show.

Tha main thing is that you own one of the limited numbers of Metal covers I have available.

Thanks

Just got my limited edition metal cover plus full size SDHC capability two days ago. I'm very impressed. It looks very professional, like it came from Nokia (minus the Nokia name on it) and it works great. Thanks Cravesone!

I just read from here that SHDC only supports up to 32G.

SDXC will go from 64G ..... maybe we will need a newer kernel at that time and hopefully the hardware is the same to support SHXC. (???)

Anyway I haven't bought any 32G SDHC cards yet!

Nobody's real certain yet about 64GB SDHC and/or SDXC compatibility, but there's no technical reason a 64GB (or anything up to 2TB) SDHC can't exist; it's simply not defined in the standard. (A while ago, 32GB wasn't defined either.) So I think, if SDXCs aren't fully backwards compatible with SDHC devices, and the SDHC spec isn't updated for another couple sizes at least, we can expect 64GB and up "SDHC-compatible" cards to be made, even though they are not in true compliance with any standard.

Craves1,

Does the hackers mod allow you to install and use the mini to sd converter while keeping your original battery cover. I would like to keep my n810 as slim as possible.

Your product looks awesome btw.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

I have started a new Thread about the Tilt sensor, Accelerometer, IR learner, IR sensor, IR transmitter and several other features I won't talk about for the adapter with the metal case. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...970#post266970
If all goes as planned then it should be ready in March. It will be powered from the tablet with no external connections, and will open up the tablet for some amazing program possibilities. The software and drivers will be up to the community, I can not create software I am just making the hardware. I am also looking for programmers to write the software for the interface. I will wait to hear from anyone that is interested.

The one wire bus will allow additional features in the future when the details are released. It will allow additions like external temperature measurement and other real world interfacing.

This is not the end of my developments for this project and I think the other features that I have not mentioned will truly make this adapter impressive.

But I need support from programmers first. Email me if you are interested.

Thanks

Anybody have a guide on how to clone to SD using the latest OS2008 release for 32GB cards? I've only found guides for up to 16GB and that do not seem up to date.
