Re: N900 UK Networks
Well the comment from Peter@maemo was that it's "some newer 3 Sims", which implies that it might not be a complete black out (as someone with a 3Sim which is a few years old, I'd really like to have this confirmed!)

"When the N900 launches it’ll be compatible with most networks, although it won’t initially be available on new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria – a software update is in the pipeline and is slated to become available before the end of the year."

If they will be able to offer the same deal for T-Mobile in-store as they did on website before this weekend, then the choice is simple. :) Otherwise I'll wait for delivery from website. |
Re: N900 UK Networks
Hey guys,
New member here - decided to register and post after lurking for a few weeks. I'm new to buying contracts online and don't know what to do. I have a N95 8GB currently on Vodafone, with the contract due to end very soon. Should I buy one on MPD as an "upgrade" option or as a new contract (I'm not bothered about keeping my number) Any help would greatly appreciated :) Cheers, Rhos. |

Re: N900 UK Networks
I just had an interesting phone call with the London Nokia Flagship store.
They have two contracts available for the N900: T-mobile: Cost: £35pm (handset free of charge) Contract duration: 18 months X-net minutes: 700 Texts: Unlimited Mobile Web: Unlimited (FUP 1Gb/m) Vodafone: Cost: £35pm (handset free of charge) Contract duration: 24 months X-net minutes: 600 Texts: Unlimited Mobile Web: Unlimited (FUP 500Mb/m) T-mobile seems a clear winner, right? Well, maybe not. The chap I spoke to said that the T-mobile phones will be both locked to the T-mobile network, and operator branded. He confirmed that this meant T-mobile will release their own version of the firmware, and nokia provided firmware will not work. Vodafone will be completely unbranded / unlocked. I don't mind a network lock so much, but the operator branding just isn't acceptable, especially without knowing how easy it will be to circumvent. Then again, I suspect the employee I talked to gets a better commission on Vodafone sales... What are the chances he doesn't have his facts straight? Either way, all of you with MPD T-mobile contracts might want to get a bit nervous! :D |
Re: N900 UK Networks
MPD told me 2 weeks ago theres no branded or provider specific software on their N900s

Re: N900 UK Networks
Does the NFS deliver or is it in store purchases only?

Re: N900 UK Networks
Just seen this reported in another thread, but MPD's website seems to have completely removed all trace of the N900. The thumbnail of the device exists on this page:
http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/...okia/b434.aspx But when you click on it, up comes an error page. I wonder what's going on! |

Re: N900 UK Networks
That N900 banner has been there for a while.
I'm guessing they are doing the same thing as Amazon UK... too many people pre-ordering online. Guess they want to limit / control orders since they are backed up the wazoo. |
Re: N900 UK Networks
I'm feeling pretty lucky, cancelled my order elsewhere and ordered from them on the 9th

Re: N900 UK Networks
I have also a transcript of my conversation with MPD and they said that the phone will be unlocked and unbranded (on T-mobile). If not, well the phone will find its way back to them.

Re: N900 UK Networks
My First Post..
I've been lurking here for a few weeks now and have gathered lots of useful info, thanks all. Just wanted to say that i called 3 today to get my PAC code in preparation for my n900...i was offered an N97 which the guy said was "virtually the same" as the n900!!!! i nearly sprayed tea all over my screen!! When i asked him to elaborate he said it was "basically the same hardware" So, you've all been lying to me then? :-) Dan |
Re: N900 UK Networks
My 2p worth.
I checked with MPD before I bought it. All of their phones are "Sim Free" I could only get it on a vodafone contract though. |
