Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Permissions are a messy issue on FB, a lot messier than I thought they were. I've got a note down to look into fixing this for the next release.

Sorry for the lack of updates people, but work is keeping me pretty busy - and I want to take a bit of a break. I'll be back at FaceBrick shortly :)

I went into the App Manager, but can't see if on the alphabetical list in the All category...

Thanks for building it and the best of luck in developing it!

Have you tried searching for it? :)

I think it was already mentioned that interval changeable would be nice...

And I think it would be nice to have the sync button on the left of the text-box (just the opposite of the update-button) instead of in the top bar menu.

Like this:
<sync> [ text-box ] <update>

The interval is 5 minutes by default. It will be made configurable.

If you want to force a sync, the cheater's way is to not enter anything into the text and tap 'update' - but I didn't tell you that as it's probably not the best of ways. :)

Try updating your status first

Hey Woot you might consider changing the icon for facebrick. It seems facebook is gone a bit paranoid with regard to its trademarks. More here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04...cebook_iphone/

Awesome work dude. I love this phone so much thanks to all you devels working your asses off to make cool apps like this! Can't wait for the next updates to see what other improvements you have made.

One thing that could do with addressing is the news feed; when people have commented on another persons wall, it looks the same as a status update and it gets confusing!

You already have that through the 'photos' application. I don't think I want to duplicate this since really it does what it does quite well.

Sneak preview of what I've been working on tonight.

Who can spot the addition? (apart from the *really* bad drawing/layout, there's a lot of unfinished work in progress/bugs here). :)

Looks great :D

I finally got this installed and its a great improvement over the stock one lol. Not sure if this has been mentioned ( I read 90% of this thread) but the only thing I could find wrong was that extra long names cover the timestamp.

Yeah, I did. I found 'grab it from extras-devel via HAM'

I'm a bit new to all this, but as far as I can see HAM is the App Manager on the, eh, 'screen with the 15 icons'. Perhaps that screen has a name, like home screen, but I don't know. As you can tell I'm new to the N900 ;)

Anyways, in that, I don't see a category called extras-devel, I see Network, Desktop, Development, Education, Games... no extras-devel. But I was pretty sure that I'd see Facebrick under 'All', and well I don't.

Incidentally, it's a bit annoying that pressing the letters on the keyboard doesn't jump a list to that letter and you have to use your fingers to scroll the whole way through a long list... but that's probably off-topic for this thread.

Can anyone please explain to a new user, what very obvious and simple method of installing facebrick am I missing?

EDIT:

What I've found out is something that is probably so obvious to most people here that you wouldn't think to point it out.

The software hosted in extras-devel is not ready for normal users!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't play with it unless you really know what you are doing. Be ready to file proper bug reports instead of posting complaints.
Expected problems: crashes, battery drain, poor system performance, full disk space & more - SERIOUSLY!

Don't play with Extras-devel if you haven't backed up your data or aren't prepared to re-flash your device.

So, now that I've found that out, I'm more than happy to wait until this is ready for people like me that don't know what they're doing! Thanks all.

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

New GUI
Portrait mode
Photo support
'Like' now viewable in main feed

Look like it was designed using an Apple theme....

What are with the 3 arrow buttons?
Looks like Apple minimse, maximise and close?
But those 3 buttons look too small to be finger freindly.....

And I see the 'File' option.....a place to upload files?

All very exciting, great work.....send me a .deb file if ya want a beta tester to weed out the bugs....love to test stuff and be first to try.

@w00t I have just tried to post a reply (or like)to a comment and keep getting an error, I'd just installed it this morning...

Do I need an additional app installed?

Sorry, I'll admit that this isn't ready for normal user consumption yet (though it's stable, and *probably* won't eat your dog).

HAM stands for 'Hildon Application Manager' and as you've pointed out, it's what you install apps with.

Stick around, and hopefully sometime we'll be out of extras-devel. :)

Not yet, yes, not yet.

The theme (and the arrows) is the default in Ubuntu 10.04. :)

'File' is just the menu you get when you tap the titlebar on the n900. :)

Post a status update for yourself first. This is a known bug and will be fixed.

Another preview of the upcoming release. This time with attachment support almost totally complete (still a few tweaks I want to make to it).

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

I've now also adjusted the UI after the recent poll, where the overwhelming majority wanted the UI for the newsfeed adjusted.

The entry to make a status update is at the top of the screen, and posts appear newest at the top.

This does not change the comments screen: oldest comments appear at the top, newer ones going down. Entry to add a comment is at the bottom of the comments screen.

I can't remember (it's been ages since I set it up).

IIRC there's a 'Facebook' installer app in the 'More' section of the menu, which installs this and the widget. I'm not positive though.
