Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

I've found the following bugs in v. 0.0.7:

* Text and numbers in Matches and Table are editable.
* Immediately after league download it is not possible to select by Team Name.
* Sorting of League Table doesn't work if there are teams with more and less than 10 points as 'alphabetic sorting' instead of 'numeric sorting' is used.

I've alredy fixed them for v.0.0.8 :)

One bug that I'm also aware of is that the 'back' button in the News tab doesn't work. Not sure why as I have implemented the feature... There should be one in the Live Score and Update Scores tabs also, but as it doesn't work in the News one, I didn't implement it there yet.

What next?

What else would you like this app to be able to do? How can it enhance your fan experience? I'm keeping my own wishlist which is actually quite long, but I'd like to hear from the user community what are the next 'must have' features! To put it in perspective, I'm looking at a set of features that I could add for the first tentative Extras-Testing/Extras version which would be within 1-2 weeks from now, and another set for the beginning of the World Cup, that's like 34d8h27m away...

From what i've followed on the threads your doing an awesome work man :) pretty much everything i could of hoped for is coming alive in the progress....

I can't offer much development support, but i will certainly give credit where it is due ;)

Big cycling tours are on doorstep.

Giro Italia
http://www.ilgiroditalia.it/en/

Tour de France
http://www.letour.fr/us/homepage_horscourseTDF.html

and Vuelta Espana
http://www.lavuelta.com/index_in.html

is this app customized to cycling?

Nope... I must admit I didn't even think about cycling... I already ruled out stuff like Formula One and Golf because they're just too 'different' from a data point of view.

At the most basic, I could add other sports and the ability to add RSS feeds, but that would probably be 'too' simple. There would have to be some kind of data source that I can use to display as well to be of interest to the fans...

So, question back to you... What would you like to see in such an app?

doesnt seem that hard to make an app like this. All it would have to do is point to a world cup website

I have two features that I am considering as next steps:

1) Include live text commentary/microblogging for user selected games. This could either take the form of integration with some Twitter feed, SportSpotter, or more 'official' feeds like football.co.uk. Any ideas?

2) Device notification (visual, audio, vibration, LED, ...) of match events (goals, cards, end of half-time, end of game...). The data is available in the HTML which is rendered by the real time data provider, livescore.in. I 'only' have to figure out how to extract it...

Same here! :)
I've re-reflashed my N810 and am going through it rather slowly to set it up the way I want to - and will install QSportsEvent to test it again.

For Diablo, install the latest version from extras-devel. Once it's on the device, start the app from the terminal window by typing:

qsportsevent

You will most likely see error messages. Please write them here and I'll see what I can do.

Or just send me your device and I can do the testing myself :)

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

Next I'd need to know what Qt and SQLITE packages you have installed on your device (don't know right now how to do that though...).

I'd then do a bit of googling before posting a question to the Development thread here on tmo. I'm sure this is not the first Qt app on Diablo using SQLITE, so someone must have it running already...

magnuslu 2010-05-14 03:50

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

And actually, I have the exact same problem with my other Qt app, QTeachMe and the issue is discussed in this thread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...744#post568744

Attila77 does report that it is working (provided that Maemo 4.1 == Diablo ...) for him in this post:

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=565996&postcount=7

So we might want to get in touch with him to see what's different for him...

magnuslu 2010-05-14 09:07

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

Diablo users:

You might want to try the following:
Code:

apt-get install qt4-sqlite-plugin
or
Code:

apt-get install libqt4-sql-sqlite2
Although the following should have been enough:

Code:

apt-get install libqt4-sql
apt-get install libqt4-sql-sqlite

Let me know if it does anything at all...

If none of those work for you, post the output of the following command for further investigation:

Code:

dpkg -l |grep qt4

Thanks for this.... these seemed to install ok on my n800-

apt-get install libqt4-sql-sqlite2q
apt-get install libqt4-sql

and now it seems to work!!!!!!!!

I have navigated around the app and it all seems in order to me.. will check it out over the facup this weekend and let you know if live scores are working!

Great work. It looks great.

Just to confirm. Is the 'q' at the end of sqlite2 above a typo or was it required? I want to update the Wiki page and would like to get it right :)

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

Preparations for 0.0.8 are in full swing. I'd need help with the following:

Icons:
An icon to represent a 'Chat' tab. Maybe a mouth? That will be for a tab opening up this.
An icon to represent 'Score Prediction'. Maybe the '1:2 1:1' icon with an added question mark? That would be for a tab opening up this.

Those links are the 'best so far' for the respective purpose. If someone has better links, I will consider replacing them.

Zoom in & out icons. Maybe a magnifying glass with a + and - respectively?

Icons for Tennis, Am. Football, Icehockey, Baseball and Basketball similar in style to the one used for Football (see attachment). Size should be 32x32 or 48x48.

A new application icon! As some of you might know, QSportsEvent will soon be renamed to MobiTifo. As the current icon prominently displays a Q, it might no longer be fit for purpose. My apologies to those who helped contribute to that one... :o

Stylesheets:
Has anyone tried the ability in 0.0.7 to modify the stylesheets for some of the screens? I'd really like to improve the looks of the 'Offline' Matches and Table tables.

Sounds
Actually, I haven't got the match events notification to work yet, and there is no guarantee that I will get it to work, but if it does, I'd need sounds to add to the notifications. The events are the following:
Goal (Maybe a latin american GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL?)
Half-time/Full-Time (A double/triple whistle?)
Yellow/Red Card (Oh no/Oh noooooooooo?)
I guess MP3 format should be fine.

Default RSS links
I'd like to add default news RSS links for the following:
US Sports (Basketball, Icehockey, Am. Football, Baseball)
ATP Tennis
Ice-hockey world cup

Ideas!
World Cup 2010 is almost upon us (not to mention the Ch. League Final...). What else should be added to the app?

Whatever you submit/propose, please consider whether I am legally allowed to add the content. I'm sure their lawyers are bigger than mine :)

But I would also like to encourage everyone again to support Magnuslu and MobiTifo with whatever skills you have or at least some feedback ;-) Donīt be shy guys :p

Quote:

If you look at other app icons, they dont have the app name written on it. And I think it looks better without due to several reasons:
- its the purpose of an icon to name the app in a graphical way
- as the name is already shown under the icon within the menu it would be redundant to have it again on the icon itself
- the name would have to be written on the graphic and thus cover it mostly, or, with a transparent background, the shape of the icon would have to be squared with a defined backgroundcolor as it would be impossible to find a fontcolor that would look good on any imaginable backgroundcolor on the desktop

What do you think Magnuslu? And everybody else?

How about stickin with a plain stadium or another neutral sport icon like a podium or a trophy?

Fair enough... How about the stadium with a mobile phone/device/computer/tablet (N900?) superimposed on it? That would include both parts of the name of the app Mobi and Tifo :)

Hmm, good idea, cancan...attached a quick shot on that...;)
Edit: Added a version without cutoff edges...
Edit2: Oh well, 2 more... one with another stadium and one a little more "adventurous" :p

And another suggestion for the score predictions as I was not really happy with the last one...

I have a request Magnuslu.
Can you please name version 0.1.1 "Allianz Arena",
as it is the home stadium of the next Champions League winner :p

And version 0.2.0 maybe "Soccer City Stadium",
which is the stadium of the first World Cup match as well as the of the final :-)

No clue... You might want to compare notes with stewwalton. He seems to have got it working... Maybe you can try the dpkg command I suggested earlier and post the result? Can you check if the database is there? It should be in the .qsportsevent folder with the name qsportsevent.db.

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

QSportsEvent/MobiTifo 0.0.8 - Santiago Bernabeu is now available for download!

Please follow the instructions in the usual wiki page.

One of the new features is a 'chat tab'. I haven't been able to test it much, so let's see how well it works... If you manage to, please do say 'hallo' there once you have installed the app :)

Featurewise, I'd be happy to release this version into Extras-Testing, so please do test it as if you were going to vote for it there! I do hope to improve the UI still a bit...

As most of you know, I do depend on PR1.2 to be generally available before it actually makes it to Extras...

What next? I want this app to evolve into a companion for sports fans of the covered sports. I'm breaking that up into various stages our support goes through:

Before an event:
Score prediction?
I've currently added a link to a WC prediction site. Is that a good idea?
Team selection?
Not sure how interesting this would be. Would you like to pick the team and be able to share your choices with the community?

During:
Support?
Would you like to know how many others are following the same event? Share ups and downs during the game? In my wildest dreams I'm thinking of using the accellerometer to detect when you are excited and this would be combined in real-time with other followers of the same event and the app would play a sound depending on the community reaction. :)
Player Rating?
Would you like the ability to rate players? Intra-game? Post-game? Real-time?
Follow results?
Live scores is a must, of course. How about real-time changes to your predictions?
After:
Commentary - Analysis?
Maybe a 'forum' would be better than the 'chat box'?

Post/Preseason:
?

Separate from this, I'd like the ability to download 'knock-out-stages' kind of data similar to what SoccerDB provides for league data. I might set up something on the Google App Engine with web2py as I can't find any data provider that carries this.

I also plan to support the 'long tail' with this app. I don't only want it to be used to follow the major sports leagues, but also your amateur or children's leagues. Anyway, that will come later... If anyone knows of any data provider for such features, I'd be interested to look at it.

DaSilva 2010-05-22 12:29

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

http://www.openligadb.de/Sports has different sport leagues and is free.
It offers you a XML based service. The community can add own leagues and games to the system but the whole frontend is German (maybe you can use Google Translate for a better understanding).
At least for the German Bundesliga, World Cup 2010 and Champions League the data should be very up2date (like live data).

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App

Just an idea. As I also have another Qt app under development, I thought of some combined usefulness :)

Qteachme is a flashcard app. Does anyone know of any sources for World Cup/Football/Sports related trivia that could be loaded onto that app? The required format is extremely simple:

Question|Answer
Who won the World Cup in 2006?|Italy

There could be trivia for specific events, sports, rules of the game, teams, ...
