Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
Nokia has done a good job with this leak : they gave us good pictures to make us interested but then they didn't give us much detailed technical info, thus keeping us wondering and generating more buzz ;) ...

I wandering why Nokia didn't take some risk in enabling it. Recording at 720 would be possible too, I believe I read somewhere about this that N900 can do 720 but will be on the edge and may be difficult to do it with its current OS. But on the other hand Nokia can't even get the 848x480p to work properly already. I don't see they can get anything done with this at all. Even samsung can do it with almost identicle hardware lol this is terribly embarassing for me personally. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
no guys that will be a new version of the N8 ... i dont know where, but i red it before, that this IS NOT the meego phone...

Looking good so far... ;)
Guess I know what I'll be reading about until launch (deja vu?)... :) |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
Okay I need to vent about this leak just a little bit:
- Why does it look so much like the N8? What could be the point behind making the next MeeGo device look like the cheaper Symbian powered device? Why not make the MeeGo device stand out, instead of making it look like "N8 with a keyboard"? - The two devices will be in totally different price categories, with the MeeGo device in the 600+ euros and the N8 has its pre-order bs price at 499 euros. That 499 euros will soon translate into 399e special prices as stores actually get hold of the device and race to sell it at the cheapest price to attract the early adopters. Why would these two devices then be in two completely separate price categories and look almost identical? In Finland at least, the 5800XM was around 350-399euros once it came out. - The N900 was marketed as a mobile computer. The same doesn't seem to happening for the N8. So why would this physical appearance be adopted to a device that aims to serve the needs of the true power users? Two devices, two different EDIT: Okay while I typed this next bit became already discussed, but still I feel that it's not been sufficiently revealed: - Why aren't we speculating if this is a (more advanced) prototype of this device? I mean doesn't that UI in there look a lot like Symbian^4? Why is this supposed to be a MeeGo device and not a S^4 device? |

BEcause N9 is KNOWN to be MEEGO DEVICE, hence its not Symbian 4. Symbian 4 is pretty far off, sometime 2011 it is coming. I think the hardware is amazing, and if all the top end is Aluminium casing its awesome. |

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
If the front of the N9 will have same texture as my macbooks aluminium it will look amazing IMO.
I don't really get the argument of it looking same as N8 and so making it cheap. If the all aluminium N9 is cheap looking what's Samsungs flagship that's all plastic and costs +500 euros? I'll throw some more of Eldar rumours here. ;) He is saying that the price would be 450 euros(before taxes) and like already said there will also be all black version that will be the more marketed color for N9. I so hope Nokia doesn't dissapoint on the specs and UI. I'm liking what i see so far. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
maybe too because most of nokia devices users this last years like much more this form factor if you look the last flagships N97, N97mini, N900, and others they used instead an iphone or else, so nokia thought to do another good one keyboard phone for them for the first meego one, and perhaps the second one will be without keyboard for a more large public imo... (sorry for my english^^)

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
Ooo the keyboard looks interesting. I much prefer typing on my E71 due to the bubble keys, whilst taking notes on the N900 means I'm looking at the KB rather then what I should be looking it.
I ofc much prefer reading notes on my N900, but I have to be so careful about sanitising what I put on it, I end up just keeping my notes on my old faithful. Others have mentioned that the USB port looks much more secure, but I hope that they put the 2mm charging port back in. Looks interesting, but unless it has full device encryption via hardware then I'll be sticking with my N900! |

I dont have seen official statement that all n series goes meego . I dont have seen an official statement that leaked phone is n9 I dont have seen official statement that leaked phone even will be released. all this is just rumors... dont forget that... |

Quote:
You are right that it's all rumours but fact is that Nokia is releasing one MeeGo phone in 2H 2010 and everything seems to be pointing to this leaked N9. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
I wish they had just added a plain (no function key required) number row on top of the N900 keyboard... :(
Why do phone-tablet manufacturers think we don't need to type in numbers? |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
It's a compromise between space and usability I guess... ;)

Reuters Yes, all n-series will use meego. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
All Nseries will be MeeGo from now on but Anssi Vanjoki did say a "Symbian^4 Nseries is a possibility" but that's not ready for devices until atleast Spring 2011.
so for now or maybe forever MeeGo is Nseries king if it does well. source official Nokia Blog http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/...ck-starts-now/ |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
Well to quote Vanjoki in that very article: "but a Symbian^4 Nseries device is a strong possibility. A very strong possibility ;-)"
So why couldn't this be it? There's just so many things about this device that ring to me as a Symbian device. Still thinking back to that "leaked ad". That was Symbiansymbiansymbian to the core that ad with the way it looked. Also, this is supposed to be the coming of the Nokia MeeGo device, the device that will take over America and Europe. Wouldn't they want to make it stand out amongst Nokia's Symbian models? I don't think that they can afford the risk that people associate that form factor with Sym^3. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
look at the f'ing pictues its clearly meego.
symbian4 is not due on devices until late spring/early summer. symbian3 is not on a publicly available device yet so there is no way s4 will be on device. meego devices will be nokias top of range, N9 is highest everyone as known for months N9 will be meego even before there was any leaks this was well known. even when s4 comes out if they do decide they will make a nseries device it will most probably stay on n8 range. explain what rings symbian about that device? |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
yep, same status bar and icons in the latest build of meego on N900 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioNjJ...yer_embedded#!

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
I hope this keyboard cleanly registers keen presses. I don't have very good experience with chiclet type keyboards.
|
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
I wouldn't get this phone and would discourage my acquaintances from getting this phone as well. I am sorry Nokia, you screwed me once with the shite support on N900 and now it is my turn to return the favour.

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
A9 (omap4440, PLEASE!) 1280x720(view the 720p videos i make on my device on my screen natively, not that hard of a concept) speaking of can i get 120fps (60 realistically) 720p video? combo: line-out/optical-out PLEASE! and at least 128gb of storage! i pray that we either get larger than 32gb microsdhc cards or this comes with a sdxc compat bay. and a compass, at least!
high end needs to be high end. if its an A8 again, im waiting ... capacitive is on my shh list too, id rather resistive esp with stantums technology. no reason to up the res only to bring down the accuracy of the touch screen. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
About the chicklet type keyboard and the grouse about it - how many people used the Zaurus SL5XX series and didn't like it ?
I thought the Zaurus keyboard was pretty nice. So if the N9 keyboard keys are have a nice tactile feel, I wouldn't mind the chicklet style seperated keys really. At least hope not. Of course , provided I buy it at all - which will not be till at least I have evaluated the software part of N9 MeeGo and realize its full potential (or lack of). |

This is possibily Nokia's last chance to redeem themselves after burning loyal fans recently (n97, n900 if you're not a developer or hardcore linux geek, longer term stock holders). If they screw this up, they should just give up the high-end to reduce R&D costs.. |

The Apple or Vaio P keyboard are not true chiclet keyboards, they have normal but low regular keys. This is much better imo. |

Samsung have had no presence in high end with even much lower market share in smartphones than HTC so why couldn't Nokia at least try with worlds most used smartphone OS that's going more in the low end, mid end and with new high end OS being developed with Intel. :D |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
I love how some people already "know" that the keyboard is going to be mushy and terrible.

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
While extra storage is always good, I dont see the point of going overboard with 128 MB of RAM.
Do you even erealise that the more RAM the more batter consumptions also ? Better is the freedom of having a decent amount of inbuilt memory and then some extendable memory. And also with a huge ram space and 1000's of pics and videos on it, comes the extra overhead of indexing all that on the fly - thus getting speed bumps in performance and complains of "Oh why is the N9 so sputtering when I do things while music is playing or whatever ?". |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
yea, that would be alleviated with more ram ... id prefer 1gb myself ... you can use an iphone 3g and let me know how that 128mb works out. those specs are from a prediction thread from the forum that leaked the pictures by someone who just rattled off some meaningless ideas, the site fails to list he said superamoled (samsung, short supply) and a 1500mAh battery when the photo shows a 1320mAh ... dont trust everything you read.

I would buy this device even with the number of apps we have now - because 1)Meego is a TRUE opensource linux with upstream changes. 2) Meego is being actively developed for several devices not limited to cell phones 3) Qt is the future for all new symbian and Meego devices. Developers I am sure are going to be porting 4) The zen bound etc games show that porting iphone apps is relatively trivial to the maemo/meego platform. With the future looking to be sym 4 and Meego I see no reason why more apps wont be ported. Specifically games which is what it seems everyone drools for. 5) I can't go back to android. For several reasons i) Interface - once you have used the intuitive/multitasking maemo gui etc going back to android just seems like a massive step backwards. Why the hell do I need a <- key to exit programs. ii) Splintering of android. Every new phone from every new manufacturer splinters android more. Google have put nothing in place to make manufacturers retain backwards compatibility with intents, param names etc. This means I can write a program that works on one phone - and not on another - despite the fact the both run "froyo" iii) At LEAST 3 versions of android currently being used on devices in the wild. See above *10. |
Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak
1 Attachment(s)
After looking at the N9 keyboard layout several times now I wonder more and more why Nokia has placed the Ctrl key on the right side.
This make not very much sense in my opionion. I would like to see a layout more like the one in the attachment.
Edit: Okay, I asked here how to raise a Bug about this issue. |
