From what it seams it is doing different things for different persons..

For me it did erase the apps, I had to restor the backup (also the N900 backup did restore the apps list which needed to be downloaded, the Ovi backup forgot about the apps!!! It is very important to know that I think)

For others it did nothing, just update without removing anything.

I belive noone has lost pictures, movies and music..

The whole 1.3 image is about 191mb, maybe NSU erases the device and installs this one (would explain why some users lose their data, and some not), while Fapman just updates the necessary bits.

Re: PR 1.3 is live now! (Released 25 October 2010)

Hi folks,

Code:

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

Round about 1050 upgraded packages ... take some time.

Upgrade works fine.
Build-in Browser more faster then before (especial at loading images & img-maps), Buildin E-Mail-Programm is considerably faster ... on big IMAP-Folders (2000+ msg), too.
The whole behavior is faster ... moving through menus, switching desktops ... even Conky starts instandly ...

Kernel, programs and settings are _not_ wiped.
Edit: ok ... next i should have a better look ... Kernel was updated to "2.6.28-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Fri Aug 6 11:50:00"
but ... the performance with new bunch of software is immense so i dont need the powerkernel for overclocking anymore :)

But in the System-Info-Tool the version is still shows "10.2010.19-1" ... but who cares? ;)

Greetings

I seem to have fixed it for now, there was this strange conversation in my conversation list (down around the time that I updated to 1.3), it had no contact name, and clicking on it would not open that conversation, I pressed and held on that wacked out conversation, choose delete, (not sure if it's a needed step, but I then also deleted the conversation I had with the contact I was having trouble with), then, said contact SMS'ed me, at which point it showed up in my conversations, I opened that conversation once, and it crashed conversations, I reopened it, clicked that conversation again, and it's been working like a champ since (ie back to normal like 1.2, msg is intantly marked as sent, and all msgs show up after closing the conversation), I'll add stuff to the bugs.maemo late tonight or in the morning, but figured that info might help you for now, good luck.

Re: PR 1.3 is live now! (Released 25 October 2010)

I have now updated to PR1.3 via OTA.

[Before Upgrade]
Had multiboot setup as following.
1. Original omap
2. Power kernel v40
3. Nitdroid

Had it booted up using option 2.
Had it overclocked to 1Ghz.
Had Conky as Live Wallpaper
Using Black Plastic Theme
Had Theme Customizer with smaller desktop icons.
Had modified hildon desktop with enlarged thumbnails for multi-tasking
Had many many many apps installed.
Had MSCIM with Hangul (Korean) IME.
Had Swappolube with propsed settings enabled.
Used FAM to upgrade to PR1.3. (not HAM)
It told me 1022 items will be upgraded. ~85MB.

[After Upgrade]
It took around ~20mins to upgrade.
Didn't prompt me to reboot. Did it anyways.
Now About Product shows the new version.
Noticed my icons on desktop are back to default size.
(update - new version of theme customizer fixed this issue)
Still booted up to power40 kernel without issues.
Overclocking still works. Back to 1Ghz.
Live wallpaper works.
Modified hildon desktop is not working. (haven't tried reinstalling yet)
I STILL have multiboot. I can still boot into Nitdroid.
Swappolube shows that it has reset the values back to default.
I still have issues with video recording dropping frames. Grrrr.

[Things Noticed so far]
MicroB bug of address bar buttons not appearing STILL exists. Grrrr.
MicroB seems smoother during scrolling pages around. Maybe maybe not. lol
Transition effects seems smoother. Dunno It just does. Drops less frames.
Multi-tasking seems a bit snappier. Hmm. Maybe due to smoother transitions?
Overall, upgrade went smoothly and didn't really make anything worse. Good enough.

Now where's PR1.4? :p

Hi Guys.

I'm being prompted by app manager to upgrade via PC Suite but i dont want to :(

i have 65mb rootfs free isn't that enough lol?

Anyway i've removed a few games, and also that Healthchecker app as someone mentioned on this post but still app manager is asking me to upgrade via pc suite :(

is there a way i can find out which apps might be conflicting with this upgrade or generally how to get the ota to work.

edit: does the desktop command widget have anything to do with it?

thanks,

I recommend you to consult with Titan about this - PR1.3 has a new kernel.

It is possible that update process was confused by version numbers and didn't update kernel.

But it may be actually a good thing ;) - check with Titan!

Hey folks

I updated to PR 1.3, reinstalling my apps. I was just wondering, is it safe for me to reinstall the enhanced kernel? Been using it with "ideal" voltages and just want to make sure the PR 1.3 is compatible.

Thanks!

Titan mentioned that he will be creating a new version with the PR1.3 bug fixes included.
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=4876

But for now, current version should also work fine. Well, mine is multiboot so maybe that's why it's working.

I noticed the Device to be a little snappier. Especially during web browsing and when sliding through the desktop. the Screen just seems more responsive when you touch and move around.

It also seems the ram has been improved and after the update i believe a few more apps where added to OVI store.

I haven't tried OC'ing yet but the way it is now is pretty darn good. Too bad no Flash 10.1 but still a great device. I want to see the new apps with QT4.7 roll in!

BTW the way i updated was OTA and it did say the best way to Update was through WLAN. Everytime i try through USA T-Mobile 3.5G my app manager can never get through that port problem of 8080 i think. So WLAN/wifi is the way to go everyone! Start switching those modes! it does take a while though. Make sure to open app manager and connect to wifi and give it 15mins and it will prompt to update.

Performance at 1.1ghz seems better than before cept the standard apps manager is still taking ages to show updates.

You can't complain about Nokia's upgrade methods when you have customized you device so much. Nokia isn't going to waste the time to write an installer that deals with every possible configuration.

The difference is your telcom is providing the update not Samsung, HTC, etc.. They don't have to roll it out to the world. Not taking Nokia's side, but it's a bit different. Most websites are designed for average load not peak.

Alright...few questions before I take the plunge...

1) Assuming I can do it OTA, will it erase the apps I have installed? Some posts seem to suggest yes, while others no. Does OTA or NSU matter? Especially since my N900 refuses to have the driver installed correctly (stupid Win7 64 bit or Ovi Suite or something..)
2) Multiboot still function? It seems the kernel still works for some people though I know titan is working on a new version too.

Might have a few more but I can't think of them now. All answers are appreciated. :)

answers (as far as i know of)

1.) no apps will be erased, you wont need to reinstall apps
2.) it should be, coz multi-boot is an app (experts please confirm)

I have currently my N900 overclocked at 900 MHz with the Titan kernel and several applications which require deeper access in the OS like fCamera and Joikuspot.

Is it better when I uninstall stuff like the Titan kernel first or can I simply install directly the OTA Update? Are there any other steps remaining?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, except that's not the problem. The problem is, Nokia's app manager stores downloaded packages into the root filesystem, so you need a croptan of free space. So even with no "customizations", it'll fail for a lot of people just because they have too much stuff installed.

Fapman stores downloaded packages in /opt, which is on the home partition, and usually has plenty of free space. So it'll succeed even when HAM fails.

(I'd say Nokia's HAM is made of fail, but that would be an oversimplification; it's really made of 50% fail, 50% lose, and 50% suck...)
