I found it irratating being slow to start then popping up when I didn't want it so I have reverted back to the VKB.

However it looks like the CSSU team are working on a new system wide portrait KB and are now looking for assistance.

Could you point me to the specific message that underlines this statement? Because I believe I haven't read such a thing.

Where is this shown?

They haven't made any such announcements and plenty of times CSSU devs have said that if we want portrait keyboard we can use FastSMSEvo..

Please present facts and not create rumours. Unless you post something showing evidence to this. Nobody should believe it or get their hopes up. Itll end in people whining about something not being made that was not intended to be made.

Now thats much better for the developer to have a look at :)

The key sizing issue should be easy to fix just a simple font adjustment.

The making it look like opera, well I am not sure but tbh I dont care much for the opera keyboard and I think the QWERTY layout is fine atm.

The theme thing well I am sure the developer could add a way for us to select the theme is uses :)

I'm not too fussed about opera either, the keys are actually smaller on that than fastSMS. All i really want from this app is the ability to use it outdoors (because i only require one-handed texting when i'm out really), and that means being able to change its own skin without the entire system theme and the letters/icons themselves being bigger, even if the key size itself remains the same, as i saw after that last post that they are quite big, just far too much wasted space within them.

I would also love it to load a bit faster, but i can live with it. My most pressing issue is that when i open phone and dial a number, it doesn't show up in the box unless i click that box, at which point it highlights what's been entered. Very annoying.

I was away in last days so I can't update to last CSSU...
Now I'm trying to fix the problem...

Where CSSU announced a new portrait kb?

Edit: this is a Qt bug http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-18720

Hey glad your back on now :)

Can you possible increase the size of the letters within each key so there is less wasted space within each one?

Also implement the keyboard vibration I asked about awhile back :)

Also somehow implement a way for the keyboard to have its own theme instead of relying on the system theme. It works fine for me but some users seem to be having problems with seeing the keys in daylight :(

Sorry I dont understand the first question...

About the third I think not atm, I changed icons management so every one can change it, but create button skin is very away from my skills :) btw If someone want to try to design it I can try to manage this...

The first question is something that i suggested and think is important. Basically, the letters themselves (like 'q' 'w' 'e' 'r' 't' etc) are very small within their button. Look at Opera, iPhone, Android, Maemo's default, the letters are very big on their square and this makes typing much easier.

If you can't create a skin, how about not having it change with each theme and just have a stock colour like grey?

OK, now I understood :) I will try after dinner and if it is looks ok, I will add this

Grey color in buttons? no, I really dislike something like this! Perhaps D4rklar can help on this...

However I'm thinking about to make the kb fullscreen with a green check (like symbian). What do you think?

No i don't think so, the Symbian portrait is very bad and people tend to prefer to see the background page.

The buttons won't need a light colour if the actual letters are made bigger and brighter. If the buttons themselves are black can the letters themselves be a light, or at least bright, colour, like red, light blue or something?

I can add an option for customize colours of character on buttons...

That'd be perfect.
I think once the letters are bigger and colour can be configured this app will be almost perfect. It would be even better if the load time was quicker but i don't know if that's possible?

"Impossible is nothing" :P but I'm alone and load time occurs only at first start so there are more important things to fix...

I will add also that :)

I've just implemented a best system for capitalization/symbol in qwerty, now I add this one to alphanumeric, then add the new layout from alfred and then looking for vibrations and character colours

Awesome your the best man :) Any chance of a preview for the bigger font size for letters within each button? :)

Possibly might want to have the touch screen vibration as an option so people who dont want this can disable it :)

Anychance of fixing the bug in the Dialler app where your keyboard launches itself when tapping the number entry area? It is kinda frustrating but I can understand why your keyboard opens up. Just needs to be disabled in the Dialler app :P

I will release this version when at least capitalization and symbols in alphanumeric works well, so I can consider basic features done...

Do you know it the problem in the dialler occurs also with standard vkb?

Tbh this bug was pointed out to me by another member. I have NEVER ever tapped that area before trying to see if this was a valid bug. I can test it if you want?

You have the remove fastsmsevo and then use the vkb...not so fast...if you try, you are welcome! But I think that very few people tap on that area, so perhaps it isn't so urgent

I think it mainly happens if you want to highlight the text or something. Pretty pointless bug as I have never ever had this problem :P

Its not urgent at all :P

Re: [ANNOUNCE] FastSMSEvo: system virtual keyboard T9/Qwerty

Time to go to bed...
I've added shift button in alphanumeric and changed its behaviour also in qwerty. Behaviour is changed also for additional layouts in qwerty.
More big font for button: done
Icons are now taken from file, so easy customization is possible

next step are:
new layout in qwerty for non latin language
symbol/smile layout in alphanumeric
enable customization for font color on buttons
improve vibration feedback

If you guys think that I'm losing something please speak :)

Realsportcars,
Will you be able to add 5 rows into your keyboard? Or it's limited to 4rows?

I'm working on a prototype of Khmer keyboard for your app. But So far it is very little that I can do with the missing keys.

realsportcars 2011-04-14 01:03

Re: [ANNOUNCE] FastSMSEvo: system virtual keyboard T9/Qwerty

Add a row means very small buttons...Do you really need that?
You have 6 different layout with 28 buttons each:
-normal
-shift
-symbol page1
-symbol page2
-accented
-accented+shift

total of 168 character. Are you sure that it isn't enough?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] FastSMSEvo: system virtual keyboard T9/Qwerty

It was me again with the dialer problem. The issue seems to have been misunderstood. What's happening is when i dial a number the text box remains blank. To clarify, this is when i open the phone app, select 'dialling pad' and then type a number. The only way to see the number is to tap the box, which either highlights the numbers or opens fastsmsevo with the number.

Doesn't happen with the default vkb because the keyboard shouldn't be in use here at all - in the phone app, dialling pad, the numbers are there already so nothing needs to be launched. And nothing is, the only problem is the box stays blank, like the numbers are in white or something.

uhm...I don't understand. You open the phone app, then open the dialling pad and then type you numer, for example '123456'. What happens then? What do you do?

I did a try right now but I don't need to tap the "text box", only tap on number....

So I can see what it would look like when I'm button matching.
Below are what I can matched to the:
Normal and Shift.

Text file UTF-8 format. Sorry using WIndows7. You'll need KhmerOS font support. Ubuntu 9+ should be fine.

There are more characters than the pictures below. But the one below are the main one. There are shift and normal for each.

Here is my layout in zip folder.
I really hope this is easy enough for you to follow thanks.

There are about 78 Characters in cambodian.
23 Vowels, and roughly 20 symbols (standard latin symbols and numbers) and about 50 special symbols

which is counting toward 170+ characters lol.

But normally about 130 are used frequently.

Any progress on split-view and possible resizing keys? I find the keyboard built into Groove is easier to use for some reason, might have to do with the the "breaks" in between the keys forcing them to be smaller?

I'm just wondering is there a way to use the default Maemo VKB for the landscape mode and FastSMSEvo VKB for portrait mode? I personally think the default Maemo landscape VKB is much better than FastSMSEvo's VKB, but I do need a portrait keyboard.

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

I'm working on new layouts...

@maxximuscool:
I need ALL six character on buttons in the file in this order:
-normal
-shift
-symbol page1
-symbol page2
-accented
-accented+shift

You send me only four "columns"

Russina layout is done: 2-3 symbols are not displayed well but perhaps it's because I miss some codec...

@bandora: no this is not possible
@hawaii:why it is best? I never tryed it...
