I noticed that all of my roms are under 40MB so I figured that out but am not sure. The FBA emulator is for maemo? Or a different platform? How did you combine different romsets, I heard about them (romsets) but not sure what are them... Just another question, I noticed that in gngeorc file where we can edit manually to set keys and configurations, wich your gui already does there're options for mapping 'hot keys' very useful for kof games like a+b b+c c+d buttons if is not too much may I ask you to add that in a future gngeo-gui release? In the gngeorc file we can do that but I don't know how to do it yet, will try . If you can do that maybe also a+c and c+d buttons too wich are 2 punchs and 2 kicks respectively. Thanks and sorry for all the questions. P S .: What you mean by 716 megs (89.5 MB) ? |

NeoGeo games will only be shown in the list if gngeo recognizes them. The content of the zip file must match the related .rc file. About the hotkeys: you can define them globally in the gngeo config file. One of the reasons i did not put them in the gui, is that I do not have enough keys on the gamegripper ;). But it can be placed in the gui some way I guess. NeoGeo used Megabits to define the size of it's roms. 1 Mbit is roughly equal to 125 kilobytes (kB). 716MBit is equal to about the 89.5 MB I mentioned. |

Hello Ade . I bought a usb gamepad ( cheap chinese 'mandarim' ) but it has analogues joysticks, I can't map directionals, could mark a b c d coin start but again the directionals none, it was the same with the other gamepad I tested some time ago. When trying to remap directionals gngeo-guy joystick app not responding, is it a BUG in the app regarding mapping or using usb gamepads or I need to get one without analogues. " My ps3 controller not working yet, it works with ps3 but not with N900 anymore " . Will look in the approp thread for that. Thank you. GPR
PS.: I put a screenshot of the joystick connected. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

As mentioned in post 271 I only support digital directionals. As long as the configuration in gngeo-gui does not get (correct) input from the joystick, it will wait indefinitely. I think gngeo itself does also not support analog directionals, but could not find a definitive answer to that. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
But it has also a button with a led indicating when the analogues are on or off, I tried both options, but none work, strange that when I used the ps3 sixaxis the analogues used to work, altough had some bugs, anyway I will change the usb gamepad for one without analogues, I bought it on Monday.
Update: Actually I am not 100 sure, maybe I'm confusing with the Mupen64Plus emulator, that I know for sure supports the ps3 analogues. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
AFAIK some kind of daemon is used to translate sixaxis input into keystrokes? That way it actually uses the keyboard-keys as input, not the joystick signals in a direct way.
You didn't mention this usb joystick had an analog/digital switch. And the directional pad doesn't work without configurating it in gngeo ("out of the box")? |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Yes, the directionals should have working out of the box without remap before, that is what the guy at the store told me (about the analog on/off switch key), but I actually don't believe because it was very cheap and also on its back says usb 2.0 but when I connect using ' h-e-n ' app I have to choose full or low speed and not 'high' speed wich is meant for USB 2.0, but maybe I'm wrong. On XTerminal says usb 1.1, are all those usb joysticks 1.1 version ? I will try to change to another one tomorrow and report back here. Don't care if it's analog or digital, I just want it to work. BTW: Do you know some other app/emulator that support joysticks beside your own? Thanks.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
On the other day I tested my joystick again (the same), I couldn't change because more than 1 week with it, so I'll try to sell it and get a new one this time without analogues!!! Anyway I tested it again and the left and right were working, very strange, if I try to map the directionals the app gngeo-gui becomes unresponsive, but sometimes not, if I don't switch the light (analogue on/off switch) I can map the directionals but during the game it's like wasn't mapped and I pressed 'SAVE' , also the number of the keys are the same, in that case all of them were '4' . It's a shame I can't play this emulator with a gamepad, very annoying to play on N900's keyboard. Can't wait to fix my sixaxis. I recorded another video this time with TV OUT, will upload tomorrow or later today, actually 2 videos. Will put the links here after upload. Or just type
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gprkof to search all my videos there and sort by DATE after . |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
He gleydsonpr, always good to see a our biggest SNK fan back :D
How does your joystick config look now, could you show me the output of: Code:
cat /home/user/.gngeo/gngeorc|grep p1joy Too bad you are using the "old" CPS2emu gui in one of your videos ;) |

Hello Ade, yes I'm probably the biggest SNK fan here, BTW I have uploaded 2 more videos KOF 96 and KOF 2002 gameplay, still without gamepad or sixaxis unfortunately. Already did the xterminal comands, screencast attached, thank you for that, I hope you have some idea of what is wrong, tought the joy had to be connected but it seems it doesn't need to. As I saw the directionals indicate 4 , 4 , 4 , 4 .(same value), the other 6 keys are mapped and work properly. KOF 96 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD_Jz_EFPS0 and KOF 2002 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_HdVky2Ttg .
I didn't use your cps2-gui yet because I heard some people were having some troubles with a new version and I remember I had too much work when installing the version I have now, but I'll try ur version sometime. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
I just had an idea, if we could find out what is the value of each of the directionals of the usb joystick we could edit the home user\ .gngeo\ gngeorc .txt manually, and I noticed that there're 2 gngeorc files, one of them called gngeorc 'old' , I guess the one that is used is without 'old' , can you check if you have them both aswell? It might be the problem??? I hope so, will try, then will report back, (better I back up the 2 files before) , keep doing the great work on the app, it's been so long since the first version, but it was worth each update!!! Thanks a lot Ade.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
I create the gngeorc.old file before saving a new gngeorc. Sometimes it is practical to have a previous version.
My joystick config is as follows: Code:
p1joy 2,3,0,1,5,4,0,1,1,1 Checked out your new videos. Too bad the TV screen causes the rolling black bars in your recording. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Thanks Ade, will try that tomorrow, my N900 is charging all day and is still not complete, strange. And I know that usb hostmode is very battery demanding so better after battery fully charged, I'll change just the last 4 keys (axes) since all the other keys are working, I hope it works but I have a feeling it wont, pearphs I'll try with various combinations to see. Yes when recording with TV OUT there're alwais black bars rolling across the screen, I need to film from a greater distance and use zoom, then they may be gone hopefully.
|
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Wow !!! Finally it worked, I edit 0 0 0 1 on the axes mapping section on txt file and it finally worked, so I'll keep this gamepad until gets ps3 sixaxis fixed Will upload video tomorrow or Monday. Thanks Ade.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
First video uploaded, I have three more to upload tomorrow. KOF 2001 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59M2b9b66wc (using usb gamepad) , The others are Double Dragon (neogeo) , KOF 97 KOF 98 etc... Still getting used to controller... But playing quite well !

New videos uploaded KOF 97 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIPZZWT3Uzw
and KOF 2002 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOYhO76aJQU N900 overclocked to 1 Ghz. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
A new version of gngeo and gngeo-gui is uploaded to the extras-devel repo. See the first post for the changelogs.
The main changes are the options to set keys for load/savestate, reset etc, and the possibility to define hotkeys. A hotkey is a defined button that executes a predefined combination of the A-D buttons (see the screenshot on the first page). The possible crashes in fullscreen mode are not fixed (yet). I did not have the time nor energy to dive in this issue again. Not having fullscreen also means that the load/save state messages in the bottom of the screen are distorted. This really asks for the fullscreen mode. During installation, the current gngeo config file should be added with missing (new) config lines, so that the current settings are preserved and the new ones have a default value. p.s. for those who want to experience the real thing: a retro NeoGeo console will soon be released: http://www.retrogamingroundup.com/im.../newneogeo.htm |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Great, the hotkeys feature is really cool. Are you planning to add it to cps2emu too?
|
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Actually the hotkeys part was already implemented in gngeo. I just made them configurable in the gui. I offer the option to define 2 hotkeys, but you could define 4 hotkeys per player. The gamegripper already has no room to define all the possible keys, so I guess two hotkeys should be enough.
I have done some testing with key combinations in cps2emu, but I did not work out as well as expected, so I dropped that again. For those who still want to use load/save states in gngeo in non-fullscreen: the screen output is not properly visable. After you press the defined key for load of save, its asks for a number (0-999). That is the load/savestate number. After entering the number on your keyboard and press enter, the related state is loaded or saved. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
I've just saw the update and am going to update in a few more seconds. Thanks again for another good work, the hot keys are really good, hopefully I will can set them on my usb joy keys, I knew that already had the option, but still don't know wich section of gngeorc to edit or 'add' ... When using Unibios already have options of save and load as you can see in some of my videos. What would be good is a kind of freeze state like in Mame emulator, but maybe is not supported by gngeo. Fullscreen would be wonderful just for a more 'cosmetic' aspect as I think it doesnt't get bigger (output) just gets centralized. Thanks again Ade.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Have updated application, first was a little bug when opening configurations to set keys, tried pressing key def, nothing, pressed back key tried again and ok, then tried a rom, it was slower (less fps) 7, 10, 21 max, but later it was good again, very good, same speed as before, alwais better overclocked, need to try to map them on joystick still to see if works, a little request; can you add 2 more hot keys on the gui (configurable)? because for KOF games I need a+b b+c a+b+c and c+d , but if not possible it's ok, already very good as it is now. If not I can just change and use the most needed, a+b+c is very good for when playing on phone's keyboard as is pretty difficult to press 3 keys on N900 . I forgot to thanks you in your post on page 34, will do that now. Also thanks for mencioning my youtube videos, am due to upload more videos this week, keep checking buddies.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Any plan to port it to Harmattan? I guess absence of HWKB on the N9 and multitouch support would require a lot of work, but it is worth asking.

I don't know if there are any Mame like ports for the N9 that support NeoGeo roms. Maybe Elemental can do something with this in his Emumaster emulator. AFAIK he does not support it right now, but I don't know the current state of Emumaster |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Definitively, the N900 with a GameGripper is the ultimate portable emulation machine.
|
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Thanks for the replies. I don't know any Mame-like port for the N9, and I think it would be a great addition actually. I don't think Elemental is planning this for the moment, as N64 and better Amiga support are on top of his priority list, and I don't even know if Mame is in the list at all.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
I just use the plain old 4.2.1 gcc compiler.
Trying an alternative newer compiler might be worth a try. First I need to setup that environment. It did an attempt to setup an environment for thumb2 specific earlier, but are more or less waiting for Freemangordon to create a up-to-date howto for that. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
unable to install due to unresolved error
please help |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
That is not too much information...
Is it a fresh install for you, or did you already have gngeo-gui installed? I am interested in the (xterminal) output of: Code:
root edit: your profile says you own a N9. If that's where you try to install it on, it won't work... |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Already an update! Thanks but I don' see nothing, am connected for over 1 hour now and don't see, will open App Man and hit Update to check manually, I hope I can install this new version. I remember you had to give me your numbers of joystick for mine to work (directionals) , but in this case (hotkeys) I don't know if it will work, my joy is similar to a ps2/3 joy, so I could map the 4 hotkeys to r1 r2 l1 and l2 . I noticed that in the last version 6.0 ... you have included gngeo aswell, was afraid of some instalation problem but it went ok.
|
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
The new version is available now for some time. It showed up in my application manager. You can also find it here: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...o-gui/0.0.6-1/
I remember you had some problems with defining the directions of your joystick. So don't change those, just define the keys for the hotkeys and the function of the hotkeys themselves. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Yes, that's what I'm going to do, will not mess with directionals again since it's already working, will try the link instead of app man, thanks.
Update: have already update, saw the 4 hotkeys, very good, can't test joy as it's charging now, map a+b c+d b+c and a+b+c .Will test later or tomorrow and report back. |

installed this new version but cannot configure the gui when I run it from terminal this is the output:
$ /usr/bin/gngeo-gui.sh Error calling slot "slotConfig" Traceback (most recent call last): File "gngeo-gui.py", line 249, in slotConfig a = ConfigWindow(self) File "gngeo-gui.py", line 299, in __init__ if self.options["showfps"] == "true": KeyError: 'showfps' Killed ~ $ ls -l /home/user/.gngeo-gui/ -rw-r--r-- 1 user users 74 Oct 27 2011 gngeo-gui.cfg -rw-r--r-- 1 user users 188 Aug 19 00:50 gngeo-output.log also I have the right pats for bios and roms and have several roms installed but I dont see most of them and the few I see dont run and the gui freezes Thanks in advance for your help |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
Looks like I forgot to add this parameter in case it is currently missing.
Try: Code:
echo "showfps false" >> /home/user/.gngeo/gngeorc |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
thanks now it works but many of the roms I have don't show I will try others
Also fullscreen crashes but this is a known bug right? Thanks for your work |

The fullscreen crash is a known issue indeed. I hope to tackle it one day, but I am not sure if I can fix it. And I will make sure the missing parameter you encountered will be set in a possible next version. |
Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui
With me it didn't happen, I've installed gngeo-gui since first version and showfps is alwais set on. I imagine the fullscreen bug is difficult to fix, maybe some kind of 'script' to make app ignore screen transitions. But I'm happy with version now, it's almost perfect now, Ade I have tested the hotkeys on joy and it's working perfectly, next is get a new one and usb hub for both connected to play against friends!!! Have played for 2 hours directly yesterday on a 32'' HD Tv, shame didn't make a video.
