Hello spammers reading this, by the way! |
Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
Anyway, it would be great if mechanism that block tagging thread by new users is not working, or really some old-timer tagged thread. IMO, definitely worth checking.

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
If someone coud look into the SQL, it would be possible to see who tagged those spam topics. Texrat, do you have sql access to TMO? Also why were there no other counter measures besides Texrat and other mods one-sided manual battle against our "friend"? Why are there still no spam-mods, shorter intervals between reporting, closing or restricting the Games section, restricting topic-rating so the creator of the thread could not rate it or installing a spam-filter?

It is the possibility. They may find some machines for botnets. They may find your credit card number. I would not click on the links of the spam. You never know what is behind those spam links and what gets on your machine if you do click the spam. Edit: I found quite some interesting stuff here: "Emergence refers to the unique human ability to aggregate information from seemingly meaningless pieces, and to perceive a whole that is meaningful." [ http://graphics.stanford.edu/~niloy/research/emergence/emergence_image_siga_09.html ] [ http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...1229105911.htm ] [ http://www.newscientist.com/article/...ts-at-bay.html ] but I am not sure if there is practical software for this to use in boards. |

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
Just saw a "bot" post something, then go back, change the content and header.
Initially it said "cram of the day" for the content... |

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
Normally, conspiracies like "it's an inside job" or the like go ignored by me... but it's rather uncanny that these spammers are doing tactics that are posted or advertised here in this thread.
If any other changes occur, I kindly request that the admins just don't tell us. Perhaps that will assist a bit and make their progress that much harder. Just a thought. |
Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
Still waiting on the new spam moderators :) the application date has long ended and almost all of us here are still sitting ducks.
Edit: quaty maybe gone by joker2 still spammed 10 times |

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
no that's where spam moderators should be given more power secretly by either the admin or the moderators.
This is where spam moderators should have an extra subforum where they communicate directly with the higher ups. |
Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
Even if there are few readers in this forum stupid enough to follow the spam links they are targeting it. This may be because most search engines now detect and ignore "link farms" so they need their links mixed in with real content in order to get a better place in search results.
The forum should be altered to add the rel="nofollow" to all links posted in messages. At least until the user has reached a certain number of posts without having been reported. That way these spam messages won't contribute to the spammers google rank in any way. Wikipedia explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nofollow |

If all TMO members, who are harassed by these spammers, are reporting these abusers, the spammers will get their reward for spamming. If Google asks, the moderators should keep some proof. |

Did I get spammed?
- apart from receiving an unsolicited PM, I don' t know whether it's a real person or a bot or something else. Please have a look at this thread. |
Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!
No, it's just that some random guy decided, that PM'ing someone - who as currently logged in - about random problem, is good idea. Shameless, useless, and in bad taste, but not spam ;)
