Or maybe it is fixed from newest Nvidia drivers?

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
Search for "drivers installer" from your linux menu (my is Unity-menu) and try to install the drivers from normal way or
sudo apt-get upgrade

A Phone For The People - An Interview With Marc Dillon, CEO of Jolla

Quote:

Jolla is a new branded mobile phone company. While at the same time they are also developing the Sailfish operating system. So basically it is like Google and Android, just not as big, yet.
Quote:

Sailfish will be an open source operating system and hence will be available for a multitude of other devices and manufacturers to use.

Going to announce a flagship device in the first part of 2013 and launch it before summer.

"So I asked Marc if I could run it on my Galaxy S3, to which he calmly replied:

'Enabling Sailfish for a device such as Galaxy S3 is something that any community member could already do.'

This kind of openness is enticing."

This was already very well made in the Nokia N950 phone, which unfortunatly was circulated in even smaller amounts than the N9. Jolla team knows how it was done. Please make it again!"

Thats also how it works in Harmattan - if you write you application using Qt Components, your application can easily toggle if the status bar is displayed or not.

Widgets are a simpler form of Jolla's application covers, so the Jolla way of doing it is more powerful, more flexible and available for every application you have, not just a handful like on the N900 so most of the features you mentioned are/will probably be available on a Jolla device cause of application covers. RSS feeder? Just put the RSS feeder application on the homescreen.

Their way of doing things is definitely fresh and new to me, it has some of the flavor of Harmattan but it feels its a totally different level.
I think its still too early to tell whether Sailfish will or won't have some of the features you listed but it sure looks promising to me.

Whatever Jolla says about this revolutionary concept seems like marketingbabble to me. What they have is a half-balked cross between a functional widget and a fluid, flexible multitasking view. In the end, neither of those works really well from what I see in the videos.

Having a mini-version of my media player right on my desktop makes my yawn. When did we first have this? On the 770 in 2005? Come on. What I need on the homescreen is a RSS-reader, shortcuts to 5-10 of my favorite contacts (indicating their online status), an email inbox, a scrolling statusnet widget, weather, on/off switches for bluetooth, dlna, nfc, FM-transmitter an thelike, and then of course shortcuts to my favorite applications and websites. I want to pin those to the homescreen, arrange them to my liking and be sure they never change position. I want the contacts shortcuts to be small squares, the size of my fingertip, showing only a person's face, while the email inbox needs to strech over the whole screen width so I can always read the whole subject.

I know I cannot really live without these features because I miss them on the N9. So much, in fact, that I only use the device once a month or so to give it yet another try.

Now they try to re-invent the wheel, which is OK. But I don't think it's necessary that they tell us how groundbreaking and new it's gonna be. :(

The is ui nice but i still prefer N9 or n900 ui. I wonder if it is possible to put the hildon ui.

It will depend on how flexible the API is. For example, I doubt kinetic scrolling will be possible because it would interfere with scrolling the task list. Also, it's not instantly available for all applications, since the application developer would need to implement it, just as with a widget.

It's just the other way round. The application covers are a dumbed down version of widgets. They're less flexible, less powerful.

Application covers are all the same size. They cannot be tailored to their function. Same for the UI, you just can't implement something like, say, Symbian's favorite contacts widget with a Sailfish cover. Scrolling just won't work. All fixed size, fixed shape, reduced UI. I don't see the increased power and flexibility.

Also, the whole point of widgets is that they stay where you put them, that you use them to customize your desktop. The application covers come and go as you open and close applications, plus there seems to be a restriction of only 9 of them at the same time.

Sure. And if I'm lucky, I'll have fonts small enough to make the whole headlines visible on a 3x3 grid of covers, and large enough to make them still readable. Because you can't do what you would with a widget: make it wide. I'm not sure if auto-scrolling withing the cover will work (covers seemed to be pretty static in the videos) or if I could define a different URL to open in the browser for each headline right from the cover. (I understood that tapping on the cover just opens the program, no watter where you tap within the area... as long as you dont drag left or right.)

I think we agree on this paragraph. Promising, yes. I will miss the widgets, I will miss true multitasking, but I'll happily welcome a free OS. Fresh and new, yes... Just that you seem to assume that fresh and new is always good. :)

Even on Harmattan, at the very least system-ui and meegotouch-home are open too.

I like how the contacts and dialer are one app. Open contacts and hit dialer on the bottom bar and it just scrolls over the contacts and you have fast dailing as well. Why leave contacts and go to another app, this just seems like the way it should of been done all along.

I'm really excited to see what other UI changes we see to the little things. Meego was so well done and building on top of that has me really excited.

Meaning we cannot have an HD2 , a Droid 4 or a SGS3 with Maemo5 on it.

Even if we could get it to work. It would not be as you want it. Unless you hired some great engineers to fix drivers.

Wow, given how very little we still know, that's extremely judgmental/conclusive don't you think...
It's odd how some users are already forming iron-clad, line-in-the-sand opinions, based on what little public info. there is, I wonder why.

By the way, the docs in my sig will be read-only soon, the only way to add further input/content, will be via the thread or the doc's built-on comment system.

Global warming is nothing you can blame the humans for. They just speed up the process with the egotistical way of living. :D

People need to make secrefices. Too many are not willing to do so... Yet.

To me it's most important that the sailfish survives, don't really cares for humans, tigers, dogs and snakes.

I just answer a statement directed at me, simular to what you just did, joining conversation with a non jolla post out of the blue.

Plus, what's has your last posts to do with Jolla. So you posting the same off posting post too, just a little more dressed.

Maybe because we still don't know the full picture, maybe that's why...
How do you expect them to have a full-blown, worldwide, distribution network (ala Nokia) overnight?
It's impossible for a tiny start-up like them....
Which is why they're focusing on a few select markets, & building out from there.
To get around that problem (or at least mitigate it) they'll probably have some kind of online purchase model too.
Look at Chinese start-ups like Meizu, Xiaomi, & Oppo for a "rough idea" of how they'll approach the situation.
At least I hope Jolla's been studying them, God only knows...

if people really want hildon on a device all they had to do was check out the cordiaHD project which has successfully done this, while its still a work in progress, its built on the mer core which can be booted off most android devices with a unlocked boot loader.

on topic. while am liking the look of jolla, there hasnt been much mention about exactly how many android apps will work, some sources say a few, the technology itself says all, so which one is it?
