At least it installs. If microphones would work we have a winner and the Jolla is SIP equivalent to the android phones for that matter

No popup screen asking for rights assignment?

If so the Jolla application rights management is more obscure than the Android one where you still get an overview of the rights the application will take as soon as you proceed installation.

We all know how happy grabbing these Android apps can prove. How to control them?

I wonder how LBE Security master would behave on Jolla.

PS: Thanks for trying to install, appreciate it.
you don't use SIP to call landlines or mobile phones abroad? CSipSimple account is of course any or multiple commercial SIP Service, like the typical Betamax based Nonoh.net, Megavoip.com, 12Voip.com or other.

Hello, I'm curious whether it can play hls streams out of the box.

In other words can you enter an url to a m3u8 file somewhere (mediaplayer, browser, wherever) and it starts playing.

Here's a test stream:

I don't work for Jolla or anything, but I disagree that this is pure dishonesty. Just cancel your order/return the device, get a Nexus 5 (although I haven't read anywhere that it works ok with LTE/4G). Dishonesty is when they sell you a low quality laptop for example, they don't allow you to return it and the support is rubbish. Does this sound familiar?

Alternatively, open a case with Jolla and get them to give you an estimate of when you'll get LTE, since you are already a customer.

Now, can we get back to reviews of the phone since we know that 4G/LTE doesn't work [for now] or just open a new thread to complain about it?

Marc said that it would be sandboxed when asked about security, whatever that means. Not sure what happens when google wants to go for your contacts for instance.

If you're able to do it in such a way that's still relatively user-friendly, it'll send tiny Jolla backwashes* throughout the industry.

If you can test the multipöe calendar sync (under one exchange account) would br greatly appreciated!

Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but in case no-one answered this. I created other calendar under same account in mail system, and both original and the test one were synced to the phone with their respective calendar names and meetings.

Note that the system I tested with was Zimbra Network Edition (that supports active sync), and not a native Exchange. Mileage may vary with Exchange systems. But at least the client does seem to support multiple calendars with one account.

No any popups :). Sailfish installing every android software in 1-2s :D very fast!

You're welcome!

When i try to use android flashlight app it say: "error camera not found", so i can't tell you yet, if it has the acces to the Sailfish HW..

If i try to open some file in text edit with a file manager, it try to open it with the Sailfish Documents writer app (empty page)..hmm.. so, can't edit android files... for now.

OTOH, it also says that a list of supported countries and carriers will be published later. So signing up for an LTE data plan assuming the jolla phone would support LTE in country A with carrier X was risky.

Except that all European carriers use the same freuquecies and bands as approved by the Comission of the European Union.. All finnish carriers support the standard european LTE modes and it would illegal for them to build any other kind of networks.

It was only risky assuming that Jolla opted to support Antarctica instead of Europe amongst those six continents. Silly me assuming that they would support European LTE, beign European corporation that at the moment only sells its products in Europe.

You need to install pciutils and modutils usbutils ! ;)

And then please run:

Edit: Why those packages are not included by default in the "development mode", they are very basic diagnostic tools? :)

According to the guide, it's the first row in the launcher and that's how you customise it.

I actually get what tissot is saying as well as what you're saying.

I wouldn't use the word dishonesty though. And people purchased this phone with more knowledge about it than the sorta surprise iPhone in 2007. Apple never has truly given the amount of RAM or CPU speed for any of their devices - just awesome sounding terms like 4 times faster and "magical".

I think that the details are yet to be fully flushed out for all users. Which... well, this is an initial product. I remember when we were so doubtful that the N9 would even work in the US with English due to how it was never sold here officially. But it did.

If not dishonest, then what you say? I'd rather think of it as unconfirmed. And this thread has been all about confirmed stuff, no? Let's stick to that please. Just for now at least.

Jolla, if you're reading this, feel free to send me one. I'll test it in the US for you. And in the Caribbean too.

Yes I can confirm. Much like moving stuff around on the n9 screen, but the top row is also the launcher bar equivalent and you can put any four functions/apps there.

Another review (in not-so-good Spanish): http://www.muylinux.com/2013/11/28/jolla-sailfish-os

Doesn't say anything to write home about, except that the conclusion is a bit negative:
Quote:

Así, por muy excitante que pueda resultar Jolla para algunos, para otros mucho solo será un un smartphone de gama media con un sistema operativo “extraño” que, según los baremos actuales, es bastante caro para lo componentes que monta.
which roughly translates to:
Quote:

As exciting as [The] Jolla may be for some; for most, it will be just another mid range smartphone with a "strange" OS that, as per current standards, is quite expensive for what it provides (TN: the text says "components", but I don't think that's the correct term)
It does go on saying that Jolla hit the first milestone and with some luck it will hit its next. Time will tell :-)

Er, what? Do I interpret that to mean closing an app sends an untrappable SIGKILL instead of a SIGTERM?

I'm curious about the Android layer. How much memory is used/wasted on the Android sandbox (Dalvik, etc.)? Is it loaded and unloaded when Android apps are opened and closed or is it preloaded at boot time?

Disclaimer: telephony is not my area of expertise.

With that having been said, AFAIK: LTE does work at the hardware level. We need to make sure we can get it working well at the connectivity level (including cases like switching back, switching when calling happens, etc). We couldn't nail that all down for the initial release, but it is planned to come.

It does whatever the Linux OOM killer does. I haven't verified that behaviour and I haven't had the time to look it up right now (or try test it).

I'd personally expect SIGTERM followed very shortly after by a SIGKILL, but I don't know.

It's been a while since I looked at this, but I think it takes around 140mb or so. It's loaded at boot, and kept open permanently on the (probably not wrong) assumption that you will be wanting to use it, and it's not exactly the fastest thing to start/stop on the planet ;)

Note that you *can* of course choose to not install it. Or stop it yourself, if you want (systemctl stop aliendavik.service as root - but note that android applications won't then work until you restart the service)

New here, so sorry if I don't know all the ropes.

Has anyone tried Android Sports Tracker yet? My most used app.

I'm wondering if I could use Android Sports tracker while waiting and hoping for native version. I read following question as a hope that BT support might come one day, but I'd like know whether Google Maps as map engine make it unusable.
FAQ says:

Q. Does BT work with AndroidApps?
A. Not at the moment.
My N8 is dying so I'm considering to change to Sailfish. Really it's the only option. It or some black and white -back to basic phone.

I had similar error message during reboot, when I changed language (which requires reboot). I have not changed TOH.

Furhermore, phone has shut down/rebooted couple of times when it was in trouser pocket. Two times it shut down, while I was just fiddling with it in my hands, looking from different angles and just rotating it around.

Questions:
Does you phone power up if you don't have TOH installed? Mine does not.
Does your phone shut down if you remove TOH? Mine does.

All this makes me wonder if my phone is somehow prone to lose connection to TOH and then shuts down. Battery sits pretty tightly in the slot, that was my first suspect.

So, does Google Calendar work or not, if CalDAV isn't supported? Adding a Google account only gives email and contacts? Curse Google for removing Activesync support. But there is no alternative to Google. I asked Jolla months ago about CalDAV support and got the answer that "it's a very often requested feature" but no confirmation of it ever coming.

Yes, CPUs seem to do good work. I have noticed some slowdowns but I don't think they are CPU related (more like bugs or background data transfers causing browser UI to slowdown). The very first boot was quite slow, so I was little worried but not anymore.
