Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

And for me also the gray ticks bug (closing, reopening chat windows resets message statuses to unsent).

Might actually be related to the `last time seen' bug: when opening, a jabber:iq:last is sent out, the reply (of course) is still 501/feature-not-implemented; perhaps this triggers a reset of sent messages?

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

As another hint it only happens to chats sent out during the current session. Anyway, I voted this one down in testing, but this is by no means because I don't appreciate all the hard work! This is what testing is for, please keep it going :)

Voting down doesn't help. This way you are telling users to keep previous version, wich didn't connect to server.
We already explain that some functions in new protocol might not work yet.

Anyways, I've already sent to ceene the new protocol last seen.
Please wait for next update.

The previous version (2.0.2) worked fine and is already in the main repo..?

guys i have a bug.
i cleaned the files chat.db and roster.db.
when somebody sends me a message or i get a group chat, yappari only displays the number (if this contact is not in my sim) and doesn't display anything in the group title.

edit: it's on github now

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Thank you CepiPerez and ceene for continuing and supporting this great WA Client. Although I hadn't been using this since Scorpius announced the retirement (problems with the device, very lazy guy, so did not reflash until yet) but I look forward to reflash my baby in some days and start using WA again.

So when they changed the protocol and we got in a little problem with Yappari but some guys were quick to find the problem and patch it (You guys were fast), they also announced WA Web. That is something really cool, you just scan the QR Code on web.whatsapp.com from your WA client on phone and Voila! now you can use it on Chrome on your desktop. But there are some strings too, WA Web is just a mirror of the WA phone client and the moment your WA client disconnects on phone your session is over on WA Web too. Also, for now you can only use it on Chrome.

So, I would want to know if it is possible that Yappari can do that too. We only have to scan the QR code and somehow send that data to WA servers (I think it is simple as that) to use it on web. Here are some links:

Yes we are (devs) know about web whatsapp application even before it was announced for you (users), and yes, it is very easy to implement, it just require big amount of work, but work is not hard at all. But do you think it's the higest priority feature which is missing in Yappari, and we should start implementing it now and stop fixing all other existing bugs?

No. Of course bugs need to be fixed first. I just wanted to know if it is possible. Because that will be really cool. :)

To be honest, I am not quite sure I like the way Whatsapp has decided to implement this. I mean, I understand why THEY did it that way: so the only way to access is through your phone.

But for us, it'd probably be easier to rewrite the portions that are N900 specific and compile Yappari for Linux, maybe even for Windows, and have a native computer client.

At least that's they I'd like it to be; I just don't feel like using a browser is the best way of implementing non web protocols. All in all, it's a lot of work and we are still fixing lots of things, so this is going to be just a nice wish for a pretty long time.

welcome to the dark side: https://github.com/davidgfnet/whatsapp-purple

And answer to "Why?" question is because it is the only way to have web application and your phone to be online at the same time. You know it, because you read whatsapp faq already.

Yes, I know that... it doesn't mean I like it :(

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Well WhatsApp Web is just a mirror, as they said and it may prove useful at some times. It isn't that bad of an idea. And WhatsApp was meant to be a replacement of the traditional text messaging, so a computer client sort of contradicts it. Athough I do like the idea of a computer client too. But then we can always port the Yappari to other Linuxes and maybe Windows too.

why? install pidgin and install whatsapp plugin. and you will get windows client. everything is done ages ago.

Oh! I didn't know there is a Pidgin plugin for Whatsapp. Then, I don't use Pidgin. No surprise I don't know about that.

I think the whatsapp web app is useless compared to the telegram webapp. I used it ones on Windows Phone it's slow, wifi needs to be connected all the time and you wouldn't be able to send all type of file extension anyway.
X fordwarding using ssh is a easy thing to do.

where are phone pass stored in yappari?

BTW isn't there any problem with that, i mean shoulnt the app use same mac adress to avoid seem a different device, should it?

Actually i give up using pidgin around a year ago (i am using telepathy at the moment), but perhaps its time to come back (although perhaps telepathy make use of that libpurple plugin...)

My suggestion to people that prefer whatsup web app is that they can get similar functionality by installing a vnc server to the mobile and using it from the computer.

Hi Ceene

Again thank you for your time and effort in maintaining Yappari.

I wonder if it would be possible to link Yappari to the application that sends SMS to an email account? In this way, all Yappari messages can be stored and the cache cleared regularly.

Best

Hi ceene I just wanted to say thanks for maintaining this awesome app :D
It brings life to my N900

I found a bug, I don't know if it is just me but my status cannot be updated... Can you take a look at that? thanks :)

why my state doesn't change?
Nicknames don't appear also ????

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

The bug with the "status not being updated" has been reported in this thread before... more than once so I am pretty sure the guys are aware of this ;)

However, we have been asked to post or issues here

So why not make life a bit easier for them and post it there? Just in case noone has done that already... :p

Is it ok to report here?

Yappari bug report:

Message width goes over the side borders after an image was sent with an overlong caption text.

Subsequently one needs to scroll to the right in order to see the green and blue check marks

Edit: I have just seen the link of the post above
Bug report here - for reporting there I need to setup a github account

Also, for now you can only use it on Chrome.

No chrome needed anymore to arrange yourself with WA limitations:
http://dedg3.com/wao/
3rd party workaround.
Not clean solution like i.e. telegram.

whatsapp is designel to be single-login. It's not possible to login from multiple places like in telegram.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Hi, when the protocol issue happened I was in a hurry to use yappari again and replaced the bin file before the update actually happened. I can use yappari just fine but can't see any contact nickname (wich can make group conversations very confusing) and cannot create chat with any of my contacts, they only show up on the list after they send me a message, wich is strange because when the conversation pops up it has all old messages there, but the new one show a phone number instead of nickname. Is this normal? How can it be fixed?

Edit: Just saw this https://github.com/agamez/yappari/issues/23

Do we all really need every new WA-feature/workaround on our "old" N9(00) phones?

Is stable but insecure mass communication via WA not enough at all?

And who should develop all this new stuff just for fun?

Yes, I knew.
But I regret it and hate this service design.
And use WA because can not ignore it, but like the client on phone.
And looking forward every multi/dead-platform alternative.
Translate and donate my Bitcoins here.

scy 2015-02-04 15:10

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

As of today, I once more cannot login. When Yappari is started it asks to "Please confirm your country code and enter your phone number". Then "SMS Registration Failed" and call confirmation failed as well with "no_routes".

I re-installed 2.0.3 Build 5203 - this does not solve it though.

Any help?
