Omg! I was actually quite calm before that, i have to say that same as others it will be the last time i buy anything from MPD. Really disgraceful. They dont know how to deal with customers!
But good luck to you, i hope you recieve it tomorrow.

MPD have just lost another customer

It's pretty shocking. If I'd seen this thread before I ordered I certainly wouldn't have ordered throgh MPD! Guess I've just got lucky!

Pretty sure that's the status I had when I first ordered! Would imagine they are waiting to hear from Voda/TM that your contract application has been accepted!?

i've been watching this thread since the beginning and it didn't put me off at all. i originally toyed with the idea of ordering back in november, then got cold feet, then took the plunge. obviously pretty chuffed to get my despatch email this evening. i've been waiting for this phone ever since seeing the snes emulation video on engadget back in september, but i guess i'm not screwing like other people because i didn't go ahead and order until the press release confirming the shipping date.

i personally have no issue with MPD, and it seems that only people who ordered well in advance do. if MPD have misled customers then i can see why people are p1ssed, but if they've just been mucked about by nokia then i don't see how they're all that culpable. people have complained about customer service, but it seems that most of the time this has been in instances where people have been asking unanswerable questions. a pre-order is a pre-order and anyone in that situation should be prepared to wait for maybe longer than they initially thought they would. admittedly there's a level of professionalism that a lot of the staff at MPD haven't managed to live up to (management need to look at their training schedules) but i don't see what else they can be blamed for.

here's your chance, disgruntled many, to itemise your grievances ;)

Thats it! 2009-12-10 22:25

Attention all who have a shoulder to cry on:

Got mine this morning, picked up from RM depot at 930am

got home about 10, opened it and held my baby, it was awesome...

looked in manual, it says the battery is pre charged so planked it in and turned it on....

NOTHING

then the standard nokia startup tune.

Still nothing on the screen.

I thought, Nah this cant be happening.

took battery out, back in, charger at the ready, plugged it in.

Left for about 30 mins.

Tried again....

NOTHING!

then "ding ding ding, ding ding."

THE SCREEN IS BROKEN!

I've already got a returns number and posted it back Special delivery. MPD Guy said by the sounds of it they should have no problem duplicating the fault, and so I should be sent a new device by monday.

Anyway I'm off to the pub. Im working tomorrow but who cares, my dreams have been s**t on.

PS. I won't go blaming MPD though, its clearly not their fault, unless someone knew how much I wanted it and decided to play footie with the box.

Good luck to all those who haven't got theirs yet.

no, no - didn't mean that! i'm british - i like to queue ;)

i just mean that if you order something 3 months before a concrete shipping date, surely a wait is the least you'd expect? poor customer service is just exacerbation.

@noobmonkey: What is the maximum uptime for your device (i.e. without reboots)? In the last emails you mentioned that it was on since Sunday without a reboot. What happened before that? Did you ever have any reboot by itself?

Cheers

PS. received confirmation from MPD today and expecting tomorrow so have to do some testing...

oh yes that's true of course. MPD or Nokia though have defied the point of preordering. To be fair, I'm rather a patient type of guy and not so much of a geek and don't preorder often, in fact I've only done it once (Sony) and it worked a charme. I had my device before it was available anywhere. I guess it was on the first container.

When thinking about it, yes I actually start understanding that it must have been solely Nokia's fault. They simply haven't sent enough and are late on top of that.

And the sad news is, no mail no status change. This, according to the letter, may mean that there won't be a phone in for me today.

solely Nokia's fault
Absolutely agree!

They've botched the release of this phone in a really big way!
Compared to other phones this phone is really buggy but at least the community at large can contribute fixes and frequent firmware updates will sort this out.

When they announced the first delay (from September) I knew something was up and decided to hold off pre-ordering it to see what developed. Sure enough they changed to release date more than 3 times?
Then they decide to launch in USA first - which by itself is fine but no carriers were willing to subsidise the n900. You had to pay full price for the n900 upfront - what a stupid way to grow your meagre <9% (I'm being optimistic here) "market share".

This seems like the actions of a panicked and desperate company attempt to regain market share (losing it to Apple).

Meanwhile in Europe the hype of the n900 was growing, there was a constant stream of new news articles in Google news after 3 months of delays still no sign of it.

When Nokia finally released the n900 the hype was beginning to subside and it is getting closer to Christmas - most people are thinking about buying presents never mind buying a new phone (except us lot though!).

Oh and Nokia offically sanctioning a video showing the N900 running Nintendo-based console emulators. Nintendo were NOT going to say "gee, that's cool!" their reaction was "F*** you! are you infringing our copyrights and intellectual property - we may sue your arse!".

Finally as a supplier letting down the very people who were trying to actually sell the n900 by woefully, inconsistanly supplying stock.
MPD suffered as a result.

So great product but ******ed Nokia Management

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Just send it back.

Get a "Return Authorisation" from MPD and get a replacement.

You've paid (or will pay) £500 for the n900 I think a replacement is not unreasonable!

Judging by other posts MPD claim you get a replacement in a couple of days.

I'm expecting mine today (got despatch email yesterday afternoon) but I am at work so hopefully my OH will sign for it.

I've prepped my linux laptop for installation of the maemo SDK tonight. If my n900 is not bricked now it probably will be by the end of the weekend.
