Have you uninstalled the subtitle support? There's been a few posts saying that removing this package breaks media player, so if you have done this, try reinstalling the subtitle support package.

I have also a "problem" with the update.

I have a German phone, but im currently in switzerland. No update for me so far with the appmanager.

But i recently have done a apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and some offical packages got upgraded.

but the about dialog still says i have not the 3.2010.02-8 firmeware. :)

It's possible something you've done has removed the core update package - to check whether this is installed, run:
Code:

dpkg -l 'mp-fremantle-*'

yes, search the wiki for flasher - you can flash to the global firmware version whenever you want. (General usual warnings apply - don't forget to backup!)

As I said, I'm aware that I can flash manually. But that sounds like a lot of hassle when really I should be able to press a button and do it OTA.

Also once I've flashed the global firmware what then happens next firmware? Do I have to do it again or will the global firmware now appear in Application Manager?

I'm not that desperate for the firmware, I'm just interested in what the differences are that cause the delay. is this something we can expect to get better/worse as further updates come?

Just a comment on the one who said "I don't want to flash".

Some of us NEED to flash. You might be able to AVOID flashing for awhile, and as a benefit of having avoided it, you may get other problems that you wouldn't have if you had flashed earlier.

In my opinion, in these early days, having experimented a bit and having uncertain situations on our phones because of having installed things of uncertain stablity, we need to be willing and ready to flash.

Flash gets you back to the basics, especially when also flashing eMMC. Not wanting to flash is almost like saying, "I don't want to reboot". Sometimes getting back to a simple setup is the right thing to do. You avoid it at your peril.

I just want to say I have been going crazy trying to figure out the fix and it is something so simple as making sure subtitle support remains installed. thank you so very much for this info. this worked for me. Thank.

Ahhhh if we new that we would have something else to whine in this thread about :D :D - no idea what the differences are.

If you flash now to the global one, your next update will be the global one and so on and so on :)

No idea on the update front..... last time we got it about 7 hours after the rest... this time over 24 hours... could get better and / or worse :D

Flashing as stated above can be a sensible option but is not in any way required :D

This happened a number of days ago to my n900......prior to any update. It was on with a full battery and when i went to use it later it wouldnt respond at all. Only way i got it going again was when i removed the battery and then it restarted.....It has been fine since and was fine before......a little unnerving though.......

you know what's strange..... i had no problems with space on rootfs with my testing-device, which is full with applications from extras and devil.

on my clean, stable, extras- and ovi-only N900 i couldn't install the update first because rootfs was full.

so much for "stay out of -devil" ;)
