Re: N900 shipping delayed

German retailers did not change their availability info. That means they've got no reliable information from Nokia. So I can't trust any other info from Nokia - not more than their previous announcements.
I expect (physical) availability in Germany Nov 30. Can wait for dropping prices after Xmas.

No reason to close this thread yet. I'm looking forwardf to post #4000 (at least one thing we can look forward...)

A small "teaser" release to to quell the annoyance that´s been showing up on this site, tech websites, conversations.nokia.com and more.
:)

Some sort of a proof that the phone exists and is viable for sale. Now we can relax a little. Lets give them a week and then we can get annoyed again if more retailers and shops don´t start shipping.

At the New York store there is a sign when you come in, on the right hand side that states: Nokia N900 ETA is 11/30/2009, more information can be found on http://www.nokiausa.com

so...no phone yet

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I can almost without doubt propose the NYC N900 stock was a PR stunt to get some of the heat off of their rather pi55 poor launch. This way, they were not technically wrong that N900's "had landed" in the US for customers.

Nokia US is probably covering their butts with a little smoke.

Added:

I also suggest all of the price reductions we are seeing is to offset orders from being canceled. Prices usually do not drop on a new device before launch. They tend to stay closer to retail for the first six months of launch- mainly due to supply issues, since if a success, manufacturers ramp production up then. They are more cautious at launch until they understand the actual SELL TROUGH demand.

The current delay is probably more due to Nokia's poor operational structure to execute a smooth launch rather than huge global demand.

I have a feeling you are correct. I will be surprised to see any online retailer ship the n900 in the U.S. before December 1.

If you ask why Nokia has these problems to finish a new product, read this (translated from http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldu...-865253.html):
8<--------snip--------
The cell phone maker Nokia reduces red numbers in the wake of its activities in research and development even further. As the company announced, to the location of Oulu, Finland 230 points and will be deleted in Denmark's capital Copenhagen 100 jobs. These were two percent of the total workforce this corporate division, it was said.
>8--------snap--------
Last year (end of june) they closed ther plant in Bochum (Germany) and transferred production to Romania where they pay loans below romanian average.
Later RIM opened a R&D center in Bochum, empoyed 120 well qualified Nokia Engineers, and they developed the new blackberry 9700 bold within only a year.
I think this is the wrong way Nokia! You may soon return to your core competence: making gumboots.

Nothing to add ... thanks very much !!
And for sure there are lots of other firms doing it the same ... they will all see what will happen to them!

Don't think it's anything to do with your change, lots and lots of Irrate US Amazon Order'ees have posted the same message in the last few days.

Probably a case of "no harm, no foul", since most of us will get the N900 in December or later. This launch has been screwed to epic proportions and the lame shipment of a few hundred devices to their main flagship store seems telling in this regard.

So has anyone from NokiaUSA pre-order even heard a hint that their device is shipping - or is it merely everywhere else in the world apart from the US (I do not include the half dozen units in NYC to be a release)

My timeline and I am not there yet....However it looks promising...

Ordered through Dell on 11/5 around 4:45 cst. Just could not resist the price. 441.99 plus tax.

Received the order confirmation within few minutes. Checked order status as soon I received it. Just to make sure everything is ok. It indicated Order to be shipped Dec 10,2009

Called Dell yesterday. Got through to a rep in a few minutes. He obtained all the information and put me on hold for a few minutes. Came back and told me that Dell would start receiving shipment on Nov 24th, and pre-order shipments would start on the same day directly from the manufacturer.

They even bumped my shipping to next day delivery free of charge when I told them that I would be out on Dec 10th. So my delivery date changed to Dec 8 instead of Dec 10.

Dell rep indicated that my n900 is very likely to be shipped Nov 26 or 27 and I could expect delivery the following business day...So Nov 30th.

I live very close to Chicago, I could get one over this weekend. But saving about $200 in this economy sounds more prudent for me.

I wouldn't want to add to the rumours! - But reading through the other posts, people who haven't changed details have got it too. + onews who have changed details (Such as Postage type) have also got the change, so i think it is an amazon wide change (US).....

But regarding the when will you get it part... your guess is as good as anyones at the moment :) Might be quicker for you to walk to New York and pick one up :) hehe

Don't think that was your change. My pre-order has been in for some time and unchanged. That message "will arrive after December 25" has been in there for over a week or so on mine. I expect it to go away when stock finally arrives and starts shipping from Amazon. I think it's there now for any Amazon sold items that are not in stock just to cover them selves for folks expecting to order gifts for the holidays.

Great, I ordered from amazon yesterday, and the price dropped to $530 today!. Canceled & reordered for no fee, but I never got an email with an ETA or anything like that. All they've said is they'll email me when an ETA is available.

Being and Expat Brit... I 2nd that about the mail system in the UK. Schengen issue will definatly lower barriers. But should not be an issue if coming in from a port of some sorts... e.g. Air or Sea

On a side note if I order something here in Sweden from a swedish retailer. I know I will get in 1-3 days max normal postage. If I order from the UK to ship to a UK address 5-10 days possibly more. Unless orderd special delivry. totally sux

I like the Droid, but it is a distant second compared to the N900's features. Just wish 3G was here for Tmo. Verizon 3G coverage is everywhere I have gone so far. For KY, that is impressive to say the least ;)

Amazon "reapproval" anyone?

I ordered my device back at the end of October. And now Amazon sent me an email today. I was ecstatic, thought my order was finally being processed only to read further and read that they wanted reapproval of my order? =.= and they said if they cant get it to me by Dec 20 they will automatically cancel, definitely not a good sign. =(

This has been talked about again, and again and again here.

Once you´ve had your order in for about a month they send you this email, telling you that unless you confirm that you want the device, before it´s been 2 months since you originally order they will automatically cancel the order.

If the N900 was not supposed to ship before that time you´d just have to confirm to Amazon that you still want it, or they´d cancel it.

But the N900 will be there before that so don´t worry too much.
