Just played with mine for three hours. Rock Solid.
To check my mic I went to settings, put in my Skype Login. F****Me all my Skype Contacts are in my Contacts list automagically. I do a Skype test call and everything works.

Hehehe, it shouldn't - I'm still an MPD customer, this is my safe haven from the madness of the rest of the posts :), still pop in here to see how the remaining few people are getting on waiting for their devices, also hoping we hear some good news for the poor people who got given dud devices :( :(

yeah agreed. really hope those that have bad devices get new ones soon. especially ninjaboxer girl since she's had a really rough ride with things!
BTW i'm still posting from the device. i cant put this thing down. it crashed on me once but no big deal. i expect that from a decive with this level of complexity in software.

Yeah :( - lets hope she gets back on here with a smile soon :)

I'm struggling to read QT/Python and C Coding pages to figure out which i should start learning.... Aghhhhh they are sooo badly written for uber geeks!!!! I'm pretty techy, and i'm struggling!

For example - the first link into the python-maemo pages gets you here.
Not exactly new person friendly?!?!?!

learn the c++, its an amazingly powerful language. been using it for some 10 years and never looked back. can be tricky to pick up at first but is well worth it.

Lol i have done asp, .net etc... so i'm definitley the alienated microsoft skooled kid :P so c++ is nightmareish to me, just as much as java is :P

The only thing i do find harder on a n900 (Not nescesarily hard, just harder) than on a pc is quickly going to and from pages to copy and paste/find info etc... forums are easy to keep track of one page, but not searching in one tab, whilst f5'ing pages like this one etc.. :)

:)

yeah it can be a pain at first but its an awesome programming language. extremeley powerful. you can even put assembley language right in the middle of your code with it. take some time to write a few small programs with and you'll get there with it. the syntax looks more scary than it really is plus once youMre up to speed with c++ you'll find java a piece of cake cos the basic syntax is identical and the rest of it is really simi.ar too.

Absolutely love the N900! The only downside is that the battery life isn't as good as on my N95 8gb, but who cares!!! This phone is in a league of it's own.

There's a few posts on here that claim to hugely extend the life of the battery :)
Yes, well most of them loose functionality - pick and choose the bits you can do :) - will help alot :)

remembering to turn GPS and bluetooth off is a goody :) - i have mine at about 8-10 hours constant use at the moment, so a full 20-24 hours of middling use :) - fine by me, as i have a charger at home, work, in the car and at the gf's! - also keep a small usb cable in my jacket pocket - you never know when it will come in handy :)

Well done all.

Even though ive had the misfortune of having a faulty one, it seriously is good to hear the the N900 hasn't fell on its arse.

Nearly every post is positive, it gives me hope :)

Im looking forward to getting Qt and developing on the device as I'm a Visual Studio C++ programmer, and I've heard so far that Qt should be easy to pick up.

To all who have the device... Please post more pics!

Ive sent 3 emails requesting information on their repairs/replacement procedure and have had nothing back.

TBH I doubt they are in tomorrow but I would've expected a reply, possibly even a new device today. sent it RMSD thursday and should have reached them on friday, so they would turn it on, see it doesnt work, post me a new tablet. Seems simple but I cant see how this is taking this long.

@rawutt
Ive also had my voda contract started. Ive had to unlock my old n96 which cost me another £15.

Finlaybob..email to Mr. Karl..on following add.,, it works :)

Hi Adam, I ordered Wednesday night and my status was 'Pending Stock' the following morning. I think it only goes to that if you have passed the check.

No, they're all South and the closest Nokia retail shop is Manchester- which is basically too far unless i make it a whole day's job and i havent time for that at the minute- besides Nokia Manchester told me i couldn't take it in there- i would have to get a number and send it back.

Sorry to hear that. They do seem to have a bit more stock now, so hopefully it will get sorted quick. By the way my one came with a RM return bag did yours?

that's a very big question!

Is your question more like - How does skype integrate with the N900, and how is it used in this context? :)

Skype integrates with the phone function, so if you add a skype address into your contacts, and register your skype on the phone, you can see when people are online and skype them just as though you are calling them.

Skype messages appear in conversations, just like a text message :)

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Having had over 24 hours of using it pretty solidly, I can't seem to fall in love with it.

Having come from an iPhone, I hate to say it as I really dislike Apple, but I think the iPhone is better.

Obviously the N900 has it's advantages, better camera, ability to expand memory, detachable battery. But then the Media player is not as good (could do with better Podcast and Audiobook intergration). The screen doesn't feel as natural as the Capacative one on the iPhone. Also Ovi Maps is a bit poo to be honest. Would also love an indicator on my desktop icons to show how many emails or texts I have, but can't seem to find a way of doing so??

I really want to love the N900, I really do. But find myself wondering whether I should swap it for a iPhone 3GS 32gb.....

What to do, what to do...

hehe i agree :)

The iphone argument allways depends on the person... i would love a mix of both... usability of the iphone V the Power of the n900 + abilities....

I couldnt personally goto the iphone.... it just desont have the things i need + keyboard, camera is too low for me, and the multi-tasking i really enjoy :)
Loving the built in fm transmitter too :)

You can track your order on the MPD/NR site by logging in and going to track order. That should give you a status update.

Quick question.

Recieved the phone a few days ago (perfect). I had to pay £89.99 for the phone but I've not been charged. Should I expect someone to call me asking for payment or will it be incorporated into my first months bill?
