Im looking forward to getting Qt and developing on the device as I'm a Visual Studio C++ programmer, and I've heard so far that Qt should be easy to pick up.

To all who have the device... Please post more pics!

Finally! I got my N900 today, albeit from the MPD high street shop in Reading. In short, I received an email today saying that I failed credit check hence the MPD webshop cannot gimme the phone. However, I refused to believe them and called voda to verify that a CC was performed.

They said they can't tell, then I called the MPD high street shop in Reading. The good guy there asked me to come in and he'll sort it out. He did sort it out OK, but it cost me 80 quid, as he explained that they are running very low on stock hence, the 80 quid price tag.

He also confirmed that the webshop lied about performing CC. Any how, I am quite relieved and I am very happy.

I've played with my Nokia all weekend and absolutely enjoy it!

I just want to say thank-you to everyone for making this a great thread - lots of good advice, comradeship, some fun and a great place to ***** about Nokia and MPD.

I hope everyone who pre-ordered are happy with the n900. It was worth the wait (enduring the confusion and frustration was worth it too?).
:)

I wouldn't panic. My credit record is absolutely atrocious. I even got turned down for Sky TV a few months back.

But for some reason Vodafone seem to be very relaxed on this front and I passed with no problem.

Fingers crossed for you

I think the New Contract status is pre-credit-check and it could just be they can't do it until Monday so I wouldn't worry. Mine wasn't done straight away, but was done early Friday morning - could be the web people only work weekdays. Fingers crossed for you!

I got an email today :(. However, I know I have good credit rating, that's why I contested their alleged credit check. Don't worry too much, it's just a phone contract not a mortgage.:)

Hi everyone, can you try taking a photo where you need to use the flash, people have been noticing a hazy patch caused by the flash reflecting off the chrome surround from the lense shutter. if you have noticed this please hound nokia and also post your findings on the post "N900 camera images hazy. Cheers everyone.

You really should get it before. last RM special delivery post is the 22nd/23rd i think so that gives them well over a week to get this sorted! :) - Crossing finegrs for you! :)

Just ring, then keep redialling until they answer. that's what I did this morning. Took me about 3 attempts to get through. And whatever you do, don't let them fob you off with ' can you send an email to webshop@.... and we'll get back to you' because they won't.That'll be the last you hear.

I stuck it out his morning and finally got them to give me a Returns Number.

edit: I did get a reply from Karl Borges yesterday within half an hour of sending my email and he said he'd pass it straight onto the webshop manager- but hadn't heard anything by 11 so I decided to bother them some more. Still haven't heard from David Urch, so it was worth phoning.

Definately just phone David Urch and say something like "I have been in contact with Karl Borges and he said you will deal with it and get my replacement as soon as possible."

Just be really nice about it and hopefully get a replacement by end of week or next couple of days would be really nice!.

I think the pre-ordering stuff has calmed down a bit now. They should have "spare" n900s to post out.

BTW say that Karl "asked me to contact him and let him know how I got on" - nothing wrong with a bit of peer pressure!

You must get that n900 - you need it!

It just freaks me out when I use the terminal and type "uname -r" !!!!

:)

Good Luck - will keep fingers (and other things) crossed for you!

I got my n900 on Friday and just want to know how long does it take to transfer my number from O2 to Vodafone?

My O2 was pay as you go and I signed up to Vodafone contract while keeping mu number.

I have no credit in my phone and it needs to be topped-up.
I keep holding off in-case the transfer comes through.

@ninjaboxergirl, I'm still waiting for my first (and hopefully last) delivery, was just in limbo over the weekend wondering if it would come on Saturday/Monday/whenever, so thats why I was excited to know what is going on. Its the not knowing that drives me nuts.

Anyone with problems with their device has my deepest sympathies, I'll be gutted if there is something wrong with mine.

Was the letter from the insurance co itself? How do you cancel, does it have a phone number to call or via MPD? I have not received any letter yet, though I got the handset last Friday.

I ordered last night, and my order status has just changed to "Pending stock" - wish they had told me they had no stock before accepting my order, especially seeing as the site said it would be delivered on tuesday :(

thechosenmonkey 2009-12-14 15:15

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I think it is standard for orders to go through a 'pending stock' status phase as mine did too but is now on its way. By the sound of previous posts, they allocate your order to a store to box up and post, so 'pending stock' means pre-store-allocation.

Either that or they have stock coming in regularly, else they wouldn't have fulfilled my order. So I wouldn't worry. Oh yeah and don't forget it still says to allow 5 days for the N900 on the website (even though they still say next day delivery which is obviously wrong - its next day from despatch not from ordering).

why do I get red x's on the pictures on all my emails? I know it's off topic but I can easily hide my stupidity in here as the pages move along so quickly. Plus noobmonkey hangs out in here. :)

I ordered my n900 last wednesday. On friday the status changed from pending stock to ready for dispatch, been on that ever since. I'm guessing the weekend would have slowed things up but would have liked to have seen the phone sent out today but I don't feel confident. Not heard anything from vodafone either but maybe thats normal.

Lol :)

Same as outlook doesnt download the pictures for safety reasons.

I can't see an option to download them other then on most junk mails i get, they have a visit the newsletter online and a link.

Just double checking as i type ..... Ahaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Click the little picture that looks like a lanscape mode with a 3/4 clock on it - took a few seconds, then the pictures turned up! :)

Managed to get someone on the phone, they told me they were unsure of what to do but to try sending 2 other types of ID so I've done that, now... it's the waiting game :(

thechosenmonkey 2009-12-14 16:50

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

@stinger16

Mine was the same until earlier today I got e-mail saying despatched and status changed to complete. I ordered on Thursday so apologies I beat you to it.

Their system doesn't quite ensure that first come are first served because they send out from stores (not a central location like the lady in Southampton MPD said). So if you get allocated to a slow store you end up waiting longer.

Try checking with the online chat thing (maybe try tomorrow morning), but once you get the e-mail it should be plain sailing. People who preordered were getting deliveries before status updates or e-mails, but I think that was because they were concentrating on getting them out rather than updating stuff online (or some stores are quicker at this than others).

Yup, that be true....

I got my device when it was ready for despatch, took a whole week to change to complete.
I've learnt to not trust updates when people are in a hurry - i think they have done almost the right thing by just getting on and sending out the devices, instead of fiddling with ordering systems.
