Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
Hi everyone
I am new here, am am not a techie person so please be gentle with me! I loved the reviews I read about Kagu Media Player so decided I would give it a try, the only problem is I cannot install Python 2.5 on my Nokia n800. Here is the way I have tried to do this: Went to: http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/installation.html Downloaded and installed Base Repository Then downloaded and ran installer. The error I get when running the installer is: 'Unable to install. Some application packages required for the installation are missing.' If I click on details I am told: 'Unable to install python2.5-runtime Application packages missing: libffi4 (>=4.1.0-1osso1) After browsing the forums here, I have tried the following methods of installation: Downloading the file to my documents folder and running from there. Downloading the file to my documents folder and running from Application Manager. Trying to install from anew via: http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/installation.html in 'Red Pill' mode I also followed all the suggestions at: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...hp/t-4739.html Can anyone offer any additional help or advice? I have the latest Nokia operating system installed. Thanks. Martin |

Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
Same here, have tried 6 ways from sunday with different repositories, directly from Python, etc., still no luck.. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix soon, as I can't install half the programs I used to use just yesterday because of the new firmware "upgrade".

Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
So, you uninstalled Python 2.4, right?
And you carefully read this page: http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/pyma...easenotes.html ? In particular, this part 'Warning: It is necessary to remove ALL applications that depends on Python2.4 BEFORE you remove python2.4-runtime. This is necessary to ensure that all python2.4 packages will be correctly removed.' |
Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
If you are planning to use only Kagu, in my experience it does install the necessary Python runtime libraries automagically if you have Base repository listed in your repository list. I have installed Kagu several times (after fresh OS flash) in the past few weeks and it always worked like a charm...
The downside is that if you do this, you'll not see Python in your installed applications. But if you go to Xterm and type python, then you'll see that it is indeed installed. Worth giving a try. (But I haven't tried this with the LATEST firmware.) (This was discussed in other thread... something like "Kagu 1.0.8..." if you do a search...) |
Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
A)I got Python 2.4 to install (after reading you may have to have 2.4 installed before you can upgrade to 2.5), and when I went to install 2.5 it comes up with the same thing, can't install missing libffi4 (>=4.1.0-1osso1) and a conflict with 2.4...
B)Um, we are only NOW having problems SINCE we updated to the new firmware..I had 0 problems with Python before this new update. And many, many of the apps we all know and love will NOT install because of this issue.. (UKMP, UKTUBE, OMWeather, Mclock, Kagu and many more) |
Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
The package libffi4 is available :
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p...sso1_armel.deb After, You can install python2.5. |
Re: Cannot Install Python 2.5 on Nokia n800
If the package is there, why isn't it listed in the application installer (red pill mode)?

Unable to install. Incompatible application package. Nokia had to have noticed this: some of their coolest apps are in Python. Anyone else found a compatible libffi? -- Mike |
