Has anyone got around to playing with any GPS and nokia 770

has anyone gotten around to playing with any gps system with the nokia 770, or is the nokia 770 in its current state still "Too Slow" to handle any kind of gps system???

It seems not many apps are available for GPS and those that are available aren't quite ready. Also, there hasn't been much interest from a users perspective either. See thread http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...read.php?t=948 .

I have a BT338 from GlobalSat. Like all the GPS module it's NMEA compliant and so does work with any Bluetooth system capable of doing Rfcomm ... like a mobile or the 770.
I'm using it with the 770 for WiFi access points mapping : a simple script doing iwlist scanning and parsing the NMEA strings from the GPS is enough.

It works great for me. I rigged up a suction cup mount, and gpsdrive took me from San Francisco to Las Vegas and back a few weeks ago.

I have a Socket bluetooth gps receiver. The only issue was tapping the screen to wake it up, as there is no way to turn off sleep after 5 minutes. However, this helped keep me awake :-)

Check out this GPS...that would fit nicely in the Nokia 770 rs-mmc slot...one day.

Typing this on my new Nokia 770!

I am interested in linking a gps to my Nokia 770. Anyone determine the best transceiver to use with the 770?

I looked into various units, and as I mentioned in the other thread (linked above) the Rikaline 6033 is cheap and technically excellent - I can confirm that the cold start time is around 30 seconds, warm start just a couple of seconds. It comes with an AC charger (100-240V) and car adaptor, plus some metal disks to attach to a dashboard, although the rubber pad on the bottom is probably good enough for most applications.

@770

I just ordered that model. Hopefully, i will get it this coming week. It seems to be in high demand. The other model that looks interesting is the bt330 just because there are reports of picking up signal indoors.

Perhaps we should start a campaign to get TomTom to port their software to the 770. Gpsdrive is a workable solution but I don't mind supporting a linux company.
