USB Tethering for net connectivity on the Nokia N810 with a Sprint Mogul Device

As opposed to providing internet access to the N810 through bluetooth, has anyone succeeded in USB tethering a cell phone to the N810 with software like USBMODEM or PDAnet ?

Specifically, I would like to tether a Sprint Mogul to it. I have USBMODEM which works on linux (so in theory the driver that comes with USBMODEM should work for the N810). USBMODEM works perfectly for tethering my Sprint Mogul to my windows laptop.

USB tethering a phone to the n810 would be much more practical as far as power savings because the phone could charge while it provides net access rather than both devices losing their battery life quickly because of bluetooth connectivity.

Any info on this subject is very much appreciated, thanks!

The tablet is a serial port slave device. The old 770 could be hacked into "host mode" but afaik, there is no way to turn the USB port into a USB host.

I would post this question in this forum since the N810 has USB OTG capability. I would imagine it would come down to a driver issue.

Re: USB Tethering for net connectivity on the Nokia N810 with a Sprint Mogul Device

I did it with my Verizon 6700 with USB modem.. Very similar device. Here is how I did it:

Prior to pairing the 6700 with the N810 activate USB modem on the PDA.

Then pair the 2 devices - I started with the 810.
On 810 - Blue tooth devices - New - when you see you device, click on it - OK -On your PDA, enter the code that the N810 generates - on PDA hit finish

You N810 will display "Use this Phone for internet connection? "- Yes

On N810 - Operator Setup - Next - USA (or wherever u are) - Next -Pick you provider ( mine is Verizon) - Next -Finish

Close Bluetooth Manager on N810

On N810 Click on your wireless connection (upper right of Screen next to bat indicator) - choose Connectivity Settings - Connections - You should see your service provider (Verizon Wireless for me) -Click on your provider - select "Data Call" - Next - On the "dial up number" enter #777 -nothing to enter on the other tabs- finish - done (not sure if #777 will work with Sprint).

I could only get this to setup if I ran USB modem on my device prior to pairing. It works great on my setup..

Hope it works for you

jazz, thanks for the info, that's an excellent walkthrough on how to get it to work over bluetooth, but how about USB? have you tried that?

I was thinking that in theory it should work because the N810 has USB OTG which can act in master mode.

I only used the bluetooth..
I might try the USB, I would get more through put I imagine..
Couldnt get USB modem to work on my laptop thru USB though. I found that odd.
PDA net did.

Well, I think I might go ahead and buy the N810 and attempt to get that USB tethering working with my Sprint Mogul. It'll be amazing if it does work out! I'll keep you guys posted

I'm getting the N810 for a price of $419.99 shipped, does anyone know of a cheaper deal than that?

Has anybody else out there tried USB tethering their cell phone to the N810?

It seems to be much better than bluetooth tethering because with bluetooth you have to worry about 2 batteries draining out rather than just the N810's battery draining
