Aircrack again - questions

I am trying to install aircrack, or at least some similar prog so I can access WEP hotspots. On my N800 with 2007, I have installed Xterm and tried as root (sudo gainroot), but am missing files or apps. I show aircrack-ng and wirelesstools installed, but in Xterm I get "not founds" on airodump, iwconfig, ifconfig.
What should I show installed? I have read these forums till I'm blue and cannot seem to get this app to run. Appreciate any help...

Uhh, the wireless settings can access wep encrypted networks from the factory, no additional software needed.

As I stated, I used Xterm and then thought I became root. This is where I am stuck. Am I not accessing root correctly? I know how to do this in Red Hat, etc (su)...is becoming root different on the N800 (sudo gainroot) [the prompt changes to $]? Obviously, I would not be trying to install aircrack if I had encryption codes available.

You can check wether you are logged in as root by looking at the character at the prompt: '#' means you're logged im as root, '$' means you're not.

Oh, so you want us to help you commit a felony? That doesn't sound like a good idea.

I don't know of any jurisdictions in which that would be a felony. Misdemeanor maybe, but felony?

I've played around with aircrack myself a bit, on a home network (i normally use WAP but for the sake of science I used WEP to test this).
Some of this may sound like dumb questions, but to double check...
--> Once you gain root, when you type "whoami" does it actually return 'root'?
--> If your having trouble gaining root, 1. Make sure you have gainroot installed. 2. If that doesnt work, you could always use the ssh root@localhome method.
--> Airodump. When you use it, you have to type airodump-ng not just 'airodump'.
example, airodump-ng -c <channel> -w <filename> wlan0
of course the channel and filename wont have <> around it.

Get back if any of that does anything for ya.

Depends on which state he's in, and what he does. It's breaking the law in any state though.

Just for argument's sake, are we sure he's from the USA? There are a lot of countries represented here at ITT, and international law is even more complicated than Linux (but only by a little margin :)). Some places may even permit such behaviour!
