Reboots when idle, was:Screen lock key problems
I charge my N810 fully and lock the screen with the button on the top of the unit. I slide it into the grey holder that came with it and shove it in my rucksack. Sometime later, I pull it out and find that the applets have moved around, as though they have been dragged.
Does anyone else have a similar feeling that the key-lock is not staying on? I'm very careful not to knock the lock button and I'm sure it doesn't get bashed in the rucksack. |
Re: Screen lock key problems
I found you need to slide the lock button over and hold it over for a couple of seconds until you see the 'Touch screen and keys locked' message appear. Only then is your N810 actually locked. If you just flick the lock button over for a fraction of a second it doesn't get locked.

Re: Screen lock key problems
I got that program that locks the screen when it gets dark I noticed sometimes when I locked it it seemed to unlock or something some times. The Lock on dim light program works really well I tested using me finger over the light meter. Only downside is sometimes while using GPS at night it locks my touch screen but the inside light will unlock it or just slide it open.

Oh, I do that alright. I thought I was doing something wrong, but I'm convinced something is not quite right.

Re: Screen lock key problems
Once possibility is that your N810 may be crashing and rebooting whilst you're not using it. It reboots into an unlocked state. I concluded that's what happens when I find mine unlocked in the morning.
Mine seems to crash and reboot pretty regularly - sometimes multiple times a day and sometimes only a few times a week. No idea why - I haven't really investigated as it's rarely been a problem (except when it crashed when the GPS was telling me where to drive!). Just open Xterminal and type 'uptime' and it will tell you how long it's been running. If it's shorter than the last time you manually booted it, it has crashed and rebooted itself. |

Is there a log somewhere that holds diagnostics? |
Re: Screen lock key problems
I left the NIT on the desk doing nothing. I've just looked again and the uptime is now 1:41! The damn thing has re-booted WTF? It was left in the off-line mode, as well. There should have been nothing going on to cause a re-boot!
STOP PRESS: I saw somewhere about /proc/bootreason, cat /proc/bootreason gives: 32wd_to Which I think is a watchdog timeout. Technically this is progres, though it doesn't feel like it. |
Re: Screen lock key problems
I get the "Screen Lock Not Working" bug that General mentioned on my N810 anytime I've had the screen locked and I either plug or unplug the power cable or headphones. :( I usually just unlock and relock then all is well.
