Weird Battery Issue
Ive had a strange problem pop up in the last week. My N810 is almost always on the charger when at home...was sitting on the couch watching tv and had it off the charger , it had not been off long and it beeped saying to recharge the battery and shut off. Then tonight I was out and about for a few , N810 in my pocket (fully charged before leaving the house), and i needed to make a phone call...so i stopped where i knew there was an open access point and tried to dial...and it did it again. beeped saying to recharge battery and shut off. So I put it on the car charger , it wasnt even on there 5 minutes and it said the battery was fully charged. Any idea what is going on?

Re: Weird Battery Issue
Before I can try and answer your questions i need to know a few more things.
Is the battery that you are using the one that came with the tablet when you got it.; or did you buy another or new one? How much do you use it per day and how long do you keep it on the charger at maximum? It isn't good to leave it plugged in whenever you are home. What I do is plug it in right before I go to bed and take it off right after I wake up. I have had mine for a few months now and haven't had any issues. If you charge it whenever you have the chance and you don't drain the battery enough then it might develop a memory. What that means is that if you used 25% of the battery each time before you charged it again, and you kept to that schedule, you eventually might end up with a battery that thinks it only has a quarter of the storage that it was designed to hold. One thing to try is to use your tablet until it turns itself off and then charge it to full. Repeat this over and over again and it may lengthen the life. It has worked with my laptop battery and with my tablet's. If you bought the battery from somewhere other than the nokia website, like ebay, it may not actually be from nokia or it might have some sort of defect. Someone I know ordered two batteries for his nokia off of ebay and one of them didn't even work right out of the box. The other only lasted him about an hour worth of use. Other than that I don't know what the problem could be and the only other thing I could think of is to buy a new battery. I hope I was of some help.:) |
Re: Weird Battery Issue
I'm pretty darn sure these batteries do not have the "memory" issue.
1. How old is the battery? 2. What's the charger? For instance most USB chargers do not fully charge the battery. 3. There are several GOOD but older threads regarding the batteries and charging. Maybe someone else can search for you. |

It may just be the battery is at the end of its life or its malfunctioning. I would wait until it tells you to recharge and shuts off, then cool it down and restart it without recharging. That brings me to another point, lithium batteries have protection circuits that will refuse that charge and possibly report that they are full when they are overheated and might also report they are empty when they are too hot to provide power. how hot does it feel when it shuts down? |
Re: Weird Battery Issue
Sounds like he's had it on the charger too much IMHO.

Re: Weird Battery Issue
When I put my N810 in my pocket I always lock the screen to keep it from turning the screen off. At night I leave it on but switch to offline so it doesn't continue to look for network connections. I have a neighbor with WiFi that's far enough away for the signal to drop and reacquire. The connection lost sound had wakened me a number of times. I charge every day until the N810 is fully charged. Less than two hours charge usually does it. Nokia discourages overcharging but as a rule lithium ion batters aren't subject to over charging in addition to not having a memory.

Re: Weird Battery Issue
it is the original battery. I use the original charger when at home , not a usb. My car charger is a generic one from walmart. it is not hot in the least when it has done this. as i said it is usually always on the charger when i am at home as i have it on and use it as my primary phone when at home. have also been having a strange random reboot every now and again...not sure if it is related. backing up my files and going to try a reflash to see if it solves any problems.

Re: Weird Battery Issue
that's pretty old for a single cell lithium battery. Probably time for a new one.
