Do firmware updates (e. g. 43-7) really improve ?

I see lots of posts about 43-7 update but nothing in it what it really offers. When I read posts of people hours trying to fix problems caused by a firmware upgrade, is the update worthwile ?

In Oct I updated to 36-5 flawlessly (with no noticeable improvements) but now I am reluctant.
What does 43-7 offer ?

Not any more, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?t=25673; and a complete package, with bootmenu and clone, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...230#post252230. And one got to keep their old system if they so choose, dual boot Diablo and Chinook; see previous thread.

I skipped 36-5 because of SSU.

Yes.

Also, by not being on the latest firmware, if you choose to file a bug; it probably will not be counted unless you can prove it happens on the latest firmware. I don't, personally, see what you get by using an older version anyway.

The only reason is that I read many posts from people screwing up their tablet by updates and spending hours to restore things.
How did you update ?

I was actually lucky this time, this update succeeded for me fine when I updated from the application manager but I have had it fail on me in the past (but I think that was Nokia's fault as they did not do the packging properly then - i.e the user guides stuff).

I've never had any real problems with the SSUs. 99.999% of users - who don't faff with bootmenu, SD-booting, random hacking of the system libraries (replacing Busybox, for example) - won't have problems either.

Remember two things:
  1. People are more likely to post with problems than with "it worked"
  2. The group posting here are self-selecting power users who are more likely to have tinkered under the hood, as above.

In the meantime I updated it flawlessly from the App Manager.

Ditto. My N800 went through all Diablo SSUs without any problems.

Unfortunately, to date none of them have solved the battery life bug, which Chinook didn't have...

All the N810 SSU upgrades have been flawless. I haven't messed with the tablet at a system level other than a few scripts. I would think the more vanilla your system the better SSU will work.

I am yet another user who has NOT had problems with the SSUs.
