Infrared port
I am glad to see an infrared port on the N900, but the manual says that it does not support IrDA.
This does not bother me, as I will be using Bluetooth instead, but it then makes me wonder why Nokia bothered to add an IR port at all. I'm looking forward to using the IR port with Irrecco, but as it is on the long side of the device, it is not ideally placed for this. |
Re: Infrared port
CIR, not IrDA. It's for blasting media center electronics, not sending notes to your Palm buddies.

Re: Infrared port
That is why it would have been nicer to have the port on the short edge at the top, as Irrecco has portrait mode support. I did not realise that Nokia were thoughtful enough to have intended the IR port to be used for this.

Great. This what i am looking for.

Re: Infrared port
I'm just glad they could squeeze in the Ir port and deemed it a worthwhile component. I guess only time will tell if location actually yields problems when running Irrecco in portrait mode. I often bounce my signals from my bedroom TV remote off the wall behind me. Works like a charm when pillows/blankets get between me and the TV.

Re: Infrared port
Would much rather have a compass than a CIR port...

Re: Infrared port
Didn't Nokia announce some home automation thing a while back - last year?
With the N900 having IR - it fits into that idea. Regarding the IR on the side - could still work in portrait, depending on the strength of the IR. |
