N900 in R&D Mode
so just for kicks, I flashed the N900 with the --enable-rd-mode.
I was glad to see the boot up screen being in line with tradition. The N770 icon is sported under the Nokia banner and the boot text is also similar to the N770/N8x0. What was interesting was the way the keyboard backlight flickers when the device is locked. The backlight under the keys on the left and right side of the keyboard flickr probably in response to system activity. I also realized that the rd mode is the only way to get root access without a network connection. The only other way would be to install the rootsh/gainroot deb file in Red-Pill mode. Oh wait, the Red-Pill is slated for removal in a future update..oh well. Anyway, If you all find something interesting in rd mode, please share. |

Re: N900 in R&D Mode
One side of the kb flashes for one thing and the other for another (clock interrupts and kernel power state changes perhaps?)
Igor did tell me at the Summit but I can't for the life of me remember what the two were, and which way round. Anyone know exactly? |

Re: N900 in R&D Mode
Edit /etc/pmconfig and change "sleep_ind 1" to "sleep_ind 0", then reboot

Re: N900 in R&D Mode
Awesome news about being able to turn off lights.
I might try this when I crack open Android. |
Re: N900 in R&D Mode
I'm bumping up this old thread to ask a question.
Is it "safe" to leave an N900 in RD mode permanently? I know that it disables some (or all) of the watchdogs, but does this effect Maemo's stability? |
