Where did devel_adhoc come from and what is it?

Recently when looking for wlan a new connectio is available:
devel_adhoc
Instead of looking like the normal wlan connections .))) it looks like this: .))).

So that's my device finding itself since I wasn't able to find it with other devices.

I suspected it might be related with:
Open SSH - removed it, nothing happened.
Freeciv server - same
Vncviewer - same

Any help and explanations are warmly welcome.
Thanks

Re: Where did devel_adhoc come from and what is it?

The maemo-pc-connectivity package adds it. I think it's a substitute for a dummy connection, but since I've never actually installed it myself, I can't confirm this.

You may be able to remove it with: gconftool --recursive-unset /system/osso/connectivity/IAP/devel_adhoc
The usual option in the Control Panel should work fine to remove it.

It shows that icon when another WiFi device is offering you a connection in Ad-Hoc mode (peer to peer WiFi), as opposed to Master mode which base stations offer.

My house doesn't have WiFi, so I use this mode when my laptop is on wired ethernet, so that my laptop can provide WiFi internet access to the N900 :)

So most likely you are seeing this icon because of a device in the vicinity, not because of any software updates.

Funny thing is that it was already disabled in the control pannel applet...
I also tried the commandline and uninstalling, + rebooting after each one with no success.

Anything else I could try?

I noticed that this appeared after I installed the PC-Connectivity 2nd Edition from the extras-devel repo. Not sure if this install is the cause. Did you happen to install any apps from any of the development repos?

Re: Where did devel_adhoc come from and what is it?

Only transmission from the extras-devel but I'm positive that has nothing to do with it; isn't it in the extras-testing already?

All I installed recently was Freeciv server and the PC-Connectivity applet.
I checked PC-Connectivity and it does start a "network" connection with that name.
However it does not turn it off, not even when speciffied in the settings to do so and even it it does, the devel_adhoc still shows up in network connections.

Check out section 4.3 Wlan ad-hoc to see if that helps in explaining where it came from.

Notice the second bullet point under section 4.3.1. The ESSID that's created is devel_adhoc.

Please how to delete "devel_adhoc" from wifi possibilities?
(I think it pretty drains my battery)
