X Term capability?
Understand in X Term, you can play with local system/filesystem, however what about over the air, e.g. make a call, send a txt, or send an email, upload a photo to online sharing website??? Can you do that in X Term???
Many thanks |
Re: X Term capability?
Yes.
:) That's the short answer. The long answer is that each of these things requires you to execute a command that may be very, very cryptic, and the executable for said command may not even be installed on the N900 by default. |
Re: X Term capability?
Thanks jacktanner, the reason for me to understand what kind of role X term plays in the system, and also if X term might result any security concerns, e.g can X Term be accessed remotely???

Re: X Term capability?
The shell can be accessed remotely if you install the openssh server and set the root or the user's password.
And for doing things in the terminal you have this little useful page: http://wiki.maemo.org/Phone_control |
Re: X Term capability?

hmmm interesting concept - essiantly the easier way would be to developt a script (python for example) - that would be able to do the above, you could then easily remotely run these... (Providing you know the root password/ssh etc) |
Re: X Term capability?
All things can be done from the terminal in Unix/Linux. But as jacktanner said "each of these things requires you to execute a command that may be very, very cryptic" (and long), so as to make typing it every time you want to execute a command impractical. That's where noobmonkey's reference to writing a script comes in handy.

In many cases CLI is much more practical. |
Re: X Term capability?
thanks guys, i wonder for all these actions above, do you have to be root to be able to execute these commands/scripts??? if yes, then what can a user do(any tweaks?) in X Term without Root???
