You bought it, you suffer with it!
I bought my N900 because there were promises in the air of the Flash 10.1, 3D games, extensive software support and support for the next gen OS.
However, Nokia has no obligations to develop us anything after we have bought the device already, aka Nokia has our money. N900 is a product that is "ready" right after Nokia got it sold. What can we do about this? Pretty much nothing. Nokia did not promise any of the above. Adobe demoed Flash 10.1 but so what? Nokia is not paying anything extra to make existing consumers happy and that is the way of the capitalistic world. Instead we have silence of the matters we are arguing here at the forums. Please do not start flame wars about how bad everything is here at Maemo.org It really will not help. What will help is that you will not buy the products of the company in the future that you do not like. That is also the idea of capitalism. |
Re: You bought it, you suffer with it!
OMG, when will it stop??
the N900 will not only get meego, it will get *two* meego version! one from the linux foundation, with the rpm packaging system and the reference UI, and one from the maemo/meego community based on the Nokia version of meego with deb packaging system and the Nokia UI and the Nokia proprietary blobs (3D acceleration, gsm stuff, ovi stuff and so on). please stop to spread nonsense. |

And why did you post such an aggressive post? |
Re: You bought it, you suffer with it!
Facts are... Nokia would not have to pay to get Flash 10.1; they will have to port it via the supplied porting tools. Going back, there's never been a true announcement from Nokia about Maemo 5 getting Flash Player 10.1 - I know I want it, but you can't say it was promised when it wasn't.
If you truly want to make a difference, get your voice(s) heard... why not organize your grievances into one thread, have them listed out with facts, and go from there. An organized protest has always gone better than an disorganized one. And so far, the multiple threads are entirely too disorganized to be effective and will unfortunately be relegated to "whining" or "trolling" by others. Good luck. Get organized. Be more effective. |
Re: You bought it, you suffer with it!
because I'm tired to read the same posts over and over again.
sorry, nothin against you in particular. there is a lot support from nokia. if the community is not seeing it, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. nokia is providing their proprietary code blobs so that it is possible to build a meego version for the n900. they never annouced meego for n900 so they don't have to do this. but they're doing it. why? because they want you to use your expensive n900. also there will be AT LEAST 2 more software updates for maemo. so from where does all the talk come about nokia not supporting? because they don't tell you about every step they do? which company does? |
Re: You bought it, you suffer with it!
I believe that is the only suitable way to get acknowledged. However at the moment I do not have the time to start any revolutions. Also I do not feel I am getting enough respect nor trust to start that sort of thing since I am new here.
Can you, Gerbick, be the chosen one and bring light to the darkness of Maemo users? |

Please notice that iPhone 3GS users do get the OS4. N900 users are not as willing to pay for apps, though. |

@AtteK0
I doubt I would be the best candidate - I don't own a N900 quite yet - however I have absolutely nothing doing at the moment... goshdarn contract of mine got pushed back some 5-7 weeks and I'll have plenty of time on my hands. But I think it should be something that could be simple... one, organized thread that list out the grievance, the problem, and hopefully solutions to some situations. For instance... the "no portrait vkb" grievance. Viola! Some folks are working on that in this community. It's not perfect (yet) but it does exist. And I'm sure some of us can assist. Among other things, it should/could/can/might be done correctly and stop leaving black eyes/marks all over the community if we decided to stop doing it. Maybe I'm just stupid, hopeful... want to do my part. Want to correct even my own wrongdoings. But I can't do it alone. |
