Hot coffee drenched my n900 - and it's still alive!

Yesterday i spilt boiling hot coffee on my n900. I immediately turned it off, removed the battery and washed the phone in water :D Had to because it was a special kind of coffee with some local herbs and they start sticking pretty fast.

After the wash, i put the pone in rice to dry things of. When i put in the battery, the phone booted automatically - so the power on button was shorted. Then as the OS loaded i realized the keyboard 'i' key was also short as well as the camera key. when the camera opened up i realized that vapor had got into the camera lens as well. it fogged up the insides of the lens. So i took a hair dryer and dried the whole thing and i used a incandescent bulb at close quarters to remove the fogging from the lens after which i followed up with more hair dryer antics.

All this cured most of the problems except the power key. It did get fixed at first, but later it has stopped functioning. So now if i switch of i wont be able to switch it back on. Also the slider has got tougher, i believe there is coffee residue still stuck in there.

I can't open up the device as i still have to get my hands on that philips screw driver, but what do you guys think might have happened to that power switch?

With cream and sugar?

If so, an alcohol swabbing may be required.

Cream and sugar would have been a lot more manageable.. this ones got all kinds of stuff.

What is the model of the philips screw driver that opens up those 00 screws?

If I had to guess, I'd say that you open 00 screws with a 00 screwdriver. ;-)

You probably want to have a look at the service manual (here's a link), before trying disassembly.

How long have you let it dry for?

My wife had a glass of red wine spilled on her Nokia 5800 - it was totally drenched.

We took the battery out and put her phone a the "boiler cupboard" for 24 hours - after that the phone seem to mostly work (stuck buttons and flickering screen) but after a couple of days it was back to normal and happily still using it.

Set a repeated alarm so in the case your phone does turn off (low battery or anything), once the alarm goes off, you can turn it back on from the screen.

Join the club dude...mine fell in my coffee!!lol
Anyway these 2 vids helped me out alot, hope it does you too....

Plus make sure you get some cleaning alcohol in there too.... let it dry upside down on its screen while switched off for a couple of days, and switch on every now and then.

use another phone if you got one, until n900 if working again.
