From Maemo to MeeGo - the grief cycle...
Having recently written about the bittnerness around here, I was talking to someone about this briefly, who pointed me at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEZJei6DD0o
Seems to be a very relevant picture of things around here sometimes.. ;) What's your thoughts? :p |
Re: From Maemo to MeeGo - the grief cycle...
Instead of discussing what people think; how about bringing forth what people actually do know.
People deal with facts better than opinion, speculation, fandom, self-righteousness, or faux questions of interest. Unfortunately, very few people know answers that would resolve a lot of the bitterness around here. |

I think there should be a poll so people can log which phase they're currently in :D

Re: From Maemo to MeeGo - the grief cycle...
I think I've been at "acceptance" for quite a long time.
Then on the other hand, I've never felt that MeeGo would've somehow taken away from me either. I love the N900, can't wait to see what Nokia have come up with next! But while I wait, I'm perfectly happy. :) |
Re: From Maemo to MeeGo - the grief cycle...
I have been in the "acceptance" group since the start.
I joined this community because of harmattan(i was one of those who insisted maemo was going inside Nokia's high end phones early 2009 and RX-51 was a phone :p), not because of fremantle/maemo 5 in 2009. To me it seemed like harmattan was going to be the first "future proof" platform where to build as Nokia was in a middle of big OS overhaul and seemed to have all i want looking at the previews of it. Well in the end it maybe wasn't that simple after looking it ~15 months later, but still because of that N900 was just something to play with. I buy new phone every 6 months so i could see somebody who bought N900 for 2 years or more might not be happy. Still Nokia imo is good at supporting the devices and i will surely be still looking at the MeeGo devices to replace Galaxy S early next year. |
Re: From Maemo to MeeGo - the grief cycle...
I must be in denial, because I feel no grief whatsoever. Being here for as long as I have, I'm gonna pat myself on the back and say I set my expectations perfectly for the n900 and Maemo 5: Just below the line between optimism and pessimism. Every morning I wake up and wonder, "What will the n900, and thus Maemo 5, have in store for me today?"
If you think I'm trying to be funny or sarcastic, sorry to disappoint you. Relatively speaking, the n900 is the best product I've ever owned. OS included. PR 1.2 was probably delayed because of Qt 4.6 (more denial?), but it was worth the wait. It's a true developer's device, and Nokia's done a commendable job trying to help n900 developers transition to the future. MeeGo will be just icing on the cake. Drop by my Kool-Aid stand anytime; I have plenty. |
