n900 eats my money

I've no flatrate.

n900 does regulary updates of the software.
I don't need that.

I've tried everything of maemo wiki.

my /var/lib/gconf/apps/hildon/update-notifier/%gconf.xml file shows:
?xml version="1.0"?>
<gconf>
<entry name="blink-after" mtime="1280353508" type="int" value="1440"/>
<entry name="check_interval" mtime="1284968752" type="int" value="20160"/>
</gconf>
~

Nokia-N900:~# gconftool -g /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval

yields:
20160

This should be an update every two weeks. But it does an update every time I connect to the internet after one or two days.

Yes, I did the same changes to do a check each 3000 years (moreless:), but I can see the same "checking", not so often as before but equally annoying (everything is almost frozen, and when with 3G the data plan is happy ...

Re: n900 eats my money

Is there perhaps a possibility to block every automatic connection with 3G

using

"iptables"

?

But I want still to use my browser, my email and OVI-cards with 3G.

cant you just change your internet connection setting to "always ask"?

Gerdish:

Yes. I am in the same boat.
I have tried several check_interval values but no luck.

Cfh11:

I have it set to always ask.
The problem is if i turn my internet connection on for instance to check my mail or a weather report it triggers the update check and 5Mb unwanted download.
It doesn't happen always but quite often.
Nokia should have thought about it. :(
A simple option in appmanager settings would be enough.

Whenever there is one or more updates, when I connect to the internet I get the the update notification (orange "!" icon). It's up to me to choose if and which updates will be downloaded and installed.

If I choose to ignore the updates, it doesn't download anything.

How can all this be automated in your device?

just checking the database to tell you there are updates available uses data, up to 10MB i think, some countries can charge €5 perMB for data use so just the checks can be a killer.

Oh I didn't know that!

Have you tried disabling the repos then? Ifi you get them all off then it may not trigger an update check

n900 is build for flatrate. Go and get flatrate now or sell you n900.

Set you connection to "always ask" as cfh11 suggested.

Are you sure it is looking for updates? I have set it to a week.. and it does not look for updates before that. I have other things that uses the internet but not for program updates.
