N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
Is there a way to make N900 to a remote speaker? :)

Re: N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
Sure, if someone implements it.
Maybe even A2DP can be made to work other way, from PC to N900. Having N900 to emulate USB-soundcard maybe is more difficult. If nothing else works, at least gstreaming over a network connection (BT/WLAN/USB/GPRS). |

Would be great if someone could do this, or post a way here to DIY :)

Re: N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
You should install NAS (Network Audio System) Server on N900 - it's available on repos. Next, you should configure client(it's pretty easy) and use it as a default sound device or use with some players(mplayer -ao nas, for example).
It's better to do over wi-fi, but I guess it's possible also over Bluetooth Networking. |

what use case are you targeting with this feature?

Re: N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
I think that a better solution would be to do it over WiFi via PulseAudio.

Yep, NAS doesn't work (for me, at least) - default configuration is unusable for Maemo, and even after manual configuration, it doesn't work - I got some "buffer underrun" errors.
The next possibility is PulseAudio, of course. But, seems it doesn't work for now either: In theory: On N900: Code:
apt-get install pulseaudio-module-extra Code:
export PULSE_SERVER=192.168.2.15:6000 But it doesn't work - I got "E: protocol-native.c: protocol error, kicking client". Seems the protocol's version mismatch problem. On N900 we have "0.9.15" version, on my Ubuntu 10.10 client - "0.9.21-63-gd3efa-dirty". Here is a similar topic: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36936 |

I was suggesting Bluetooth, because it looked really simple, for example I searched for devices on my Nokia 6300 it found my netbook, available services ... remote audio (or something like that). I clicked on it, ant thats it. Now all the audio for my dumbphone, goes from my netbook. The way that people pushed N900 to do things is nothing like I ever seen, so i thought this could be a simple task for N900. (Even bluetooh dialup was made by community) The problem with wifi I have AIRFOIL (google it) and the audio lags behind, and sometimes is choppy, bluetooth on the other hand was used for audio for a long time, and worked flawlessly. Thanks for all the help guys :) |
Re: N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
Would the same setup work to use the N900 as a bluetooth headset??? I have a bluetooth enabled home phone & it would be nice to be able to answer the home phone on the N900.
I can do it the other way,... using the home phone handsets to answer N900 calls. But it would be nice to be able to go either way. |
Re: N900 as a remote speaker over Bluetooth
Are headsets better than the n900?
I can send music to my headset via bluetooth. But I can't send music to my n900 via bluetooth!!! Isn't that ridicul. |
