Push email - N900 - HOW?
I have been trying to set up push email on my N900.
My server is gmail.com I have tried to follow the instructions on http://mobile-users.net/2009/12/how-...on-nokia-n900/ Some things don’t quite work out, though: When I go to “sign up”, and enter my cell phone number and select the N900, a message returns saying “Your mobile phone already has the latest Nokia Messaging software installed. To setup Nokia Messaging directly from your phone, go to Menu > Email > New > Follow on screen instructions. Don't forget to Accept the Service Terms.” When I select my other telephone (Nokia 5230), a message returns “Invalid Mobile Phone Number”. When I try to set up push email from my N900, I follow all the instructions: I select “New Account” > “Canada” > “Nokia Messaging” and follow the rest of the prompts. In the end, the account is set up, but it is not “Push email” – it polls my email server at the intervals which I select. BTW, I never saw the "Accept the Service Terms.” Can anyone instruct me how to set up Push Email on my Nokia N900? Thanks for any help!!! |
Re: Push email - N900 - HOW?
yeah the "nokia messaging is preinstalled" is normal, i think you just have to go through that to set up the account though. nokia messaging does work as push for me but its been a while since i set it up i'm afraid i cant offer any more help than the wiki.
edit: it may be network related, i know nokia messaging were linking with orange over here to charge for push email, i know nothing of canadian networks though. |
Re: Push email - N900 - HOW?
Assuming you already set everything up as I understood from what you said, try this out:
1- Go to the Email client. 2- Click on the top bar to display the options and select "Edit accounts". 3- Now select "Nokia Messaging". 4- select "Synchronisation". 5- scroll down to "send and receive". 6- In here make sure you chooses "As soon as possible" option. You should have the push email this way, It may take some time for it to take effect, but it will work good, I have been using it for a long time. Good Luck. |

I have PR1.3 - could this pattern be for earlier versions? Also, I'm not sure if I REALLY set up a Nokia Messaging account. I DID start with Nokia Messaging, but then I input my gmail address and password - I don't have a Nokia address and password, and if I do I don't know what or where it is. When I input my gmail info, it did sit for a while grinding away, and then said it had found my account. Oh well . . . Thanks for being helpful - but it hasn't worked for me. Happy New Year! |
Re: Push email - N900 - HOW?
Hello,
Try to login here: http://email.nokia.com with your gmail username and password and see if it logins. And if you don't have the "Synchronisation" option, what options you have there ? I'm using PR1.3 by the way. regards, |

When setting up a new account, the N900 allows me to select "Nokia Messaging" from the service providers list, and then prompts me for my mail account and password, and then appears to complete sucessfully. On checking "edit email accounts" I only see my gmail account. Which does not seem to be what other people who have this working appear to see. Most odd. |
Re: Push email - N900 - HOW?
In symbian devices, the Nokia Messaging uses Phone memory for emails, contacts and calendar right?
so for n900......does Nokia Messaging use the 32GB onboard mass storage? i use the email client and tried to add my hotmail on......but surprise, surprise i saw Nokia Messaging on the Providers......which i did not pay attention to in the past 11 months of using it. |

"The user name and password you entered do not match any accounts on record. Please make sure that you have correctly entered the first email address you used when you signed up for Nokia Messaging." Problem: Some months ago, I was fooling around with this push email thing. If at the time I tried to create a Nokia account by inputting a user name and password, I don't remember what they are. I wish Nokia would have some sort of recovery program . . . I have also tried to start from scratch by hitting "Sign Up". When I input my phone number, and select the N900, it tells me: "Your mobile phone already has the latest Nokia Messaging software installed. To setup Nokia Messaging directly from your phone, go to Menu > Email > New > Follow on screen instructions." When I input my phone number, and select the 5230 (my other handset), I'm told: "Invalid mobile phone number." Looks like I can't win . . . |

The reason I don't have the "Synchronisation" option (probably) is that I am in fact not connected to the Nokia Messaging system. I'm close to ready to throw in the towel. Things work fine as they are, but I was hoping that (if I could activate Push Email) my battery would last a bit longer. Thanks to all who are trying to help!!! |

First, to create an account on email.nokia.com I selected the original N95, this then allowed me to create an account. Then setting up new email account on the n900 using the nokia messaging setting worked fine. Hope this helps. |
