Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
Recent buy.com 770 owner. I found this tip by Kensington that allows you to charge via usb. I did not see this accessory posted, so I hope this is not old news.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Kensi...oductDetail.do With usb power adapters available for the car and house, you can charge as needed even when not at your computer. I also have several rechargable external batteries with usb ports. I hope this helps someone. |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
I saw these the other day at circuit city and almost bought one. I didn't because I didn't know if it put out enough amps to give my N800 a good charge.
Does anyone have one of these and knows if they work? Is there a difference between the Kensington one and the Nokia CA-100 adapter? http://europe.nokia.com/A4317011 |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
adammelancon, these are just wires/connectors - they don't put out any amps.
I'm not sure if the 770 and 800 have the same power connectors, but I use the Nokia CA-100 for my N800, purchased at Amazon to charge from my computer or other USB power sources. See the detailed power information I posted in this thread: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=8251 |

890mA is a pretty high output for a charger and seems to charge my N800 pretty fast. Charging via USB must take quite a bit longer. |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
Charging ANYTHING through USB using a computer usually takes longer.
I regularly charge my Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and Jawbone headset via USB off my MBP and the only one that charges "quick" is the Jawbone. The PSP takes the longest. |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
In your opinion, does charging via USB not give as good of a charge as using a higher output AC adapter and lowers battery output? I would hate to start charging via USB to only find out that I'm only getting 2.5 hours instead of the usual battery length.
Or is it possible that it could wear out the batter faster? I'd just hate to use something 3rd party that would mess up my N800 or it's battery. |

I'm just saying it's going to take a little longer but it sounds perfect for on-the-road travel. Since my N95 charges when it's in the cradle and I use the old auto-adapter for my N800 via a two-plug splitter I almost NEVER have to pack chargers in my suitcase unless I'm flying and even then it's just one charger since the phone usually recharges FAST off a wall plug and I leave the N800 plugged in overnight while I sleep. If you put the N800 into offline mode and then into softpoweroff mode it can last a LOOONG time like that and still have an almost full battery at the end of the day. |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
True... if i'm not using it for a couple of hours, I'll usually put it in offline mode and hit softpoweroff, and it does last a long time.
Thanks for the quick reply! Now the only thing I'm wondering is if i need to use that little inline power amp that is included in the pack.... http://images.acco.com/KENSINGTON/K2...12US-16794.jpg |
Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
Well, I'm headed on down to Best Buy to see if they have anything similiar...

Re: Kensington USB Power Tips for Nokia
If I recall correctly, USB in "high output" mode pushes out 500mA.
