Capture phone GPS signal ?

There is now some new phones which includes GPS chipset like the Nokia 6110.
I wonder if this GPS is accessible externally over bluetooth :
could the N800 (with something like Maemo Mapper) connect to the GPS inside the telephone like a stand-alone GPS head ?

Most new phones have GPS built in for 911 services (at least in the US). Some phones allow you to connect to the GPS via bluetooth, but you would have to specifically look for that feature, otherwise you're out of luck.

Internal GPS at least from 6110/N95 and E90 are not available over BT. The GPS is available via an Symbian API though, which means another program would have to interface to the GPS and then export the data over a BT link.

....but simply put the answer is no.

Some one needs to write a mirror for symbian... Mirror the gps incoming to a virtual output port on bt so that it can act like an external bt gps device. i use gpsproxy on my wm5 ipaq to do this to test maemo mapper on n800. workS!

Thanks for the replies, so it could be possible by developing a GPSproxy-like for Symbian using an API...

I would better buy a standard external GPS by now. (I need another one : mine was drop in a river...and is always alive ! But doesn't charge anymore so it needs to be always plugged)

I'm pretty psyched about this - as it seems to be doable:

Get a S60 phone (fx. nokia 6220 classic) with integrated gps

Install sportstracker for geotracking - http://research.nokia.com/research/p...ker/index.html

Install the needed things from http://gagravarr.org/code/

That way you should have a phone ;) + geologging + bluetooth gps, all wrapped up in a phone.

Hopefully it works - as I'm about to acquire a 6220 classic to do the above.

Re: Capture phone GPS signal ?

thanks for the info pumo - after reading up on the issue I actually found out that maemo mapper has the geologging feature, so I'll probably end up with waiting for the n9x - which hopefully still integrates gps, and get it all in one package.
