Recovering\Bypassing N900 Lock Code?

I found a bunch of cellphones in a dumpster dive and among them an N900. It seems like quite a nice little device, and I would like to get it working if I can.

The USB port was missing but luckily the pads were all intact, and a quick trip to eBay and the application of hot air and solder paste gave me a new USB port and the following when connected:

Code:

[ 1278.776096] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci
[ 1278.909411] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0421, idProduct=01c7
[ 1278.909417] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 1278.909421] usb 2-1: Product: N900 (Storage Mode)
[ 1278.909424] usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Nokia
[ 1278.909427] usb 2-1: SerialNumber: 1234567890
[ 1278.910833] usb-storage 2-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
[ 1278.910920] scsi6 : usb-storage 2-1:1.0
[ 1279.908932] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access    Nokia    N900              031 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[ 1279.909409] scsi 6:0:0:1: Direct-Access    Nokia    N900              031 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[ 1279.913195] sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0
[ 1279.913649] sd 6:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
[ 1279.917161] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
[ 1279.919019] sd 6:0:0:1: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk

It boots, but stops at a screen saying "Enter lock code"
I tried the default codes listed on here with no success, and am not sure what to do at this point.

I get the impression that a full re-flash may reset the code and let me use it, but all the links for flash tools and firmware point to a Nokia website which doesn't seem to work anymore.

Can someone help with 1) confirming if reflashing will actually solve the problem and 2) let me know where to find firmware now that Nokia's website seems to be down.

https://web.archive.org/web/20131117.../#sdk_releases

for starters.
you'll want to grab one of the requisite flashers for whatever platform pc you run...

then head over to the wiki...
read up on how to flash your n900...

once you have properly flashed your device...
read up on a "best or perfect n900 setup" in the wiki....

as far as the repos you should setup...
best suggestion is disabling or removing stock repos and going to maemo-repos.com and installing all of the applicable repos from there...

and you should be good to go...

any probs and just shout out and ask...

A dumpster dive!?/!?!
and you were able to fix the usb port...and everything looks fine?...
good for you man...
You literally found a rare diamond in a pile of crap...

Thanks for the help!

Finally got around to doing this and everything seems to work :D

Reset code and reflashed with the latest image.

The keyboard and screen have worn patches but work OK, the hardware seems OK (have not tested everything though)

Can you point me in the direction of finding the latest software to install?

Re: Recovering\Bypassing N900 Lock Code?

we just did ... everything is in the repos man.

"the perfect n900 setup" in the wiki....
should talk about just that issue...
technically once you install what you need
ie- which kernel type....
and get cssu updated...
then literally "everything" is in the regular, devel, and testing repos.
what other repos which may be needed (nokia , ovi ) use the repos from maemo-repos .....
then you have everything everyone else has for their n900's..

Oh, so you did. Sorry!... :o

I read your first post once 3 months ago and up to this point was only thinking about the firmware\code reset.

Thanks for the information.. twice!

I must say, I've been enjoying this N900 - or at least I was, until I tried to make an actual phone-call and discovered the earpiece was dead!

Well, I wasn't going to let that go without a fight, so I opened the screen assembly and found one of the tracks to the earpiece speaker was corroded away.

I cleaned it up as best I could and soldered a wire in place. Had to replace one of the capacitors too as I accidentally knocked it off but the result is a working earpiece! :)

Makes you remember to do a full hardware test on things before you start using them...

Hello. Can you tell me how you've managed to work around that lock code ? What version of Vanila and fiasco have you used ? I've flashed my n900 emmc and fiasco and nothing happened. Still stuck around that lock code. Thanks !
