Please bear in mind in view of age of device that it may be necessary to set date of device to between 2013 -15 quite early in re-commissioning if eliciting "signature check failed" at any stage.

Since map servers were eventually closed in early June 2018 by German car makers consortium whom bought HERE mapping now prioritising Android & iOS, additional map data can be found for manual installation here:http://maps.tienda-sistore.com

For any Mac users you do need to use recursive command in Terminal to combine regions/states for manual installation of mapping data. Aspergerguy, I love you man, you're always there on forums i'm looking up with sincere and helpful replies (lots on Microsoft.com).

Because you're the dude for meego and symbian, pretty much a Nokia guru, I got this to ask you: what's better for security conscientiousness of the aforementioned two?

while writing this, i'm not wearing a tin foil helmet, though I try to be security minded. Someone (probably some-many) wrote they use symbian because it wasn't compatible with a cloud-based interconnectivity--i'm with that.does symbian actually provide the security this person spoke of? Is meego any better/worse in this respect?

My dilemma is that I love the n9, but it doesn't love me. On the other hand, I really like my 701 and it really likes me (if it's battery were better, it'd love me). What i'm getting at is that i'm currently using the 701 because it's exceptionally okay, but it's got no pizzazz, no flair, no spunk. Contrarily, the n9 has character, vigor, and actually potential (meego is open and living), but idk about it's faults, viz. inability to flash, constant battery hiccups, map funk, security uncertainty, etc.

Can you sway me one way our another?

Not really as old school and not dependent upon the likes of WhatsApp, Twitter & Facebook :D

Let's just say I still carry an 808 for it's camera and Xperia X running Sailfish which will probably have a depleted battery before end of the day.

There will be never a new Whatsapp app for N9, there is not even one for Sailfish sadly, nor a good one for Telegram (the original developer of Sailorgram left). The only trick you could use is to have an always connected Android phone with Whatsapp running on it and using Whatsapp Web on N9. But, even if I was also using an N9 and liked it a lot, it makes not much sense.

Just bought N900 and I use normally whatsapp and instagram daily. Neither works on N900. Thought of that web whatsapp setup also but could not get enough updated browser for it. Same problem with instagram (or there are some apps for debian I think but had problems on updating easy debian version). Have to start to think that should avoid them if they are so hard to use.

Maybe a developer changes the fate of n9, has somedy heard any news from nokia corporation or hmd global that they planning their own ecosystem apart from android?
Samsung still planning its ecosystem, sony planning for sailfish, what about nokia? do they planning for new ecosystem?

İt would be great if they would plan for linux based own label ecosystem maybe meego based

now let's forget about the closed protocol Whatsapp, but for Telegram there's the Telethon library, and I am quite determined in writing a small app for N9, I don't foresee any particular problem, once I update my N9 system.

Being Telegram an open protocol, I think I would be comfortably able to get something running on both (or either) N900 and N9 (prefer N900 because of hardware keyboard). This is a package for maemo5/N900. http://maemo.org/packages/view/python3.4/
So for the N900 I would try to compile a new openssl best is to get a different devel package name like libssl1.0-dev. So go with debian package libssl1.0.0 which is a backported 1.0.2 version.
After this I would compile python3-openssl and python3-cryptography. The python3-cryptography should be compiled against the newer libssl which is obvious because it is linked to libssl1.0.0.

hi, thank you for the link, but on N900 things are quite nicely organized. I have python3.4, from the extras repositories, it's on N9 that I don't follow the logic of organization of repositories, and I doubt there is any.

I never got myself together and configured anything that would let me do what you describe. I compared the openssl.deb offered by by niel with the one already on the system, and I'm not so sure I want to replace it, not even after fixing file ownerships. I'd rather join a group determined to providing a complete OS update for N900 and getting it in the repositories. I have server space I can spare for such a project, at ghini.me.

but we're talking N900 and the thread says N9.

Competition for developer of new apps to n9-950 guys ! ı have one main board 16gb ı will give it free, dont see it simple award so everybody cant have n9 original mainboard anymore :)

Bear in mind that while map data (2015) can still be downloaded via WLAN connection in Maps > Manage maps, in Drive you can no longer download navigation voices which would have to be installed manually. Hi there,

I just recently bought myself a N9 - and I'm amazed and thankful some people still use this georgeous. So thank you for your tutorial. Most of it actually worked :)

BUT - I still have a big Problem! - Somehow I am unable to receive Messages from iphones!
I've been searching the forum for quite a while now, but I was unable to find a solution - plus the "emojifix" is offline :(
Can you - or anyone else help? :(

Also: the Nokia prompt disabling didn't work...

Hi there,

I recently got myself a nice N9 and I'm quite impressed - despite it's age.
Since Nokia Servers are down, I was following the instructions for Flashing, RepoMirror, Warehouse, etc. It all works fine, but:
SOMEHOW I AM UNABLE TO RECEIVE iPhone SMS?
I read about this "emojifix" - but looks like the server is down...
Is there any other way to fix this issue? :(:(

I always get "Password or User-name incorrect" or "No connection to server"

Re N9QTweak: Don't use it if you have no idea what it does. You could, however, have a look at the pic on the right under your link. The tool bundles a couple of more or less usefull tweaks.

For everything else, i'd have to charge my N9 first.

Regarding N9QTweak I recommend to wait with usage until you know what it can do and/or destroy ;)

actually Google and exchange used to work, but they stopped support for devices wanting to register for the first time, devices already registered can still use exchange

Ich will einfach nur das N9 zum Laufen bringen - und nach Möglichkeit auch SMS von Apple erhalten. :D - Oder gibt es mittlerweile eine MeeGo Variante von Whatsapp oder Telegram?

:confused::confused::confused: Gibt es keine einfache Lösung? ... Ich will eigentlich gar nichts am N9 ändern, wenn ich nicht weiß was ich da tue... Und was zu Geier bitte ist open kernel?

Mein Grundproblem: Für mich ist das Ganze hier noch ziemliches "Spanisch" :confused:
Deshalb meine Frage: Gibt es eine simple (ggf. Step-by-Step) Methode den SMS-Empfang von iPhones hinzubekommen, ohne etwas zu "rooten", hacken, programmieren o.ä? ... Ich möchte nur, dass es funktioniert ;)

Als erstes: 'devel-su' ausgeführt?

Der fix von thp funktioniert ohne Programmieren, aber man muss ein wenig Linux Grundkenntnisse mitbringen und leider auch wissen, dass Nokia mit aegis eine weitere Hürde für einfaches Modding von System Dateien eingeführt hat.

install aegis-installer from coderus
with this install the deb
aegis-dpkg -i emojifix-deb
That should do the trick. But I am using an aegis-neutered open kernel since long long time. With stock kernel modifying system files may malf your device. If you are not afraid of re-flash and start all over, go ahead.
Else wait for confirmation of other members....

As mentioned earlier, you can find the file in the following post:

It is the file with "mod" in its name.

Hey guys - I need some help: Somehow it's not working :(
Developer Mode is enganged; harmoji_0.6.6 is installed, Aegis Hack is installed ...

1) For shortness I renamed the .deb-Files from https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=132 to "emojifix.de" & "emojifix-mod.deb"
2) As mentioned by the Guide - I opened Terminal & entered Root-Modus (devel-su; rootme)
3) As mentioned by the Guide - entered cp "/home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/emojifix.deb" "/usr/bin/"
4) like Peterleinchen said - entered aegis-dpkg -i emojifix.deb

But here I get the following error-message:
<Aegis rejecting emojifix.deb: Could not open debian archive
aegis aborting dpkg -- all listed package files rejected
Compilation failed in require>

WHAT DID I DO WRONG? :(:confused::confused:

Well I did get it running typing aegis-dpkg -i "/usr/bin/emojifix.deb"
... But still - no Message arriving from iphone :(

Been thinking of that too, but normally the Message should be converted to "Standard-SMS" if receiving phone is not an iPhone, right?

Correct. This is not your issue. Unfortunately, I don't use my N9 any more, so I can't be of any help finding out what the issue is.

Did you also read the post from which you cädownloaded the deb files?

The emojifix.deb holds the original files.
The emojifix_mod.deb the modified ones.

So please install the second one.
You do not need (should not) copy deb files tio /usr/bin.

After download just

So ... back again. Still no luck :(
First of all - yeah, I did download both files. Then I did as written: First extract the Original file ("emojifix.deb") then the modified one ("emojifix-mod.deb") with your commands (aegis-dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/...).
He extracted the files, said everything's fine, the I rebooted ...
But still: iPhone messages won't get to my N9... :(

One thought? Should I have installed Harmoji prior to Aegis-Hack?

Nope. It is only needed to show some of these shiny-blinky-icons else you would see a caret only.

Maybe iApple changed something?
But I still do receive iSMS on my N900...

@NightBall06, did you ever use your simcard in an Apple device?

Apple has this annoying feature that if you ever even once send or receive sms with an iPhone device it will register that number as an isms contact in Apple network and every sms after that from any iPhone will not be sent via sms but via isms and that is apple-only messaging...

It's like they truly believe that once someone tries an iPhone they will never use any other device again... :eek:

Affirmative. isms goes via some apple-proprietary protocol over da net.
It is supposed to be possible to revert but has to be done via some apple portai I think
