Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Just to save a bit of time by bringing together available resources, although this is essential reading:https://wiki.maemo.org/Resurrect_your_N9
When you are ready to dig a bit deeper have a look at:https://wiki.maemo.org/Harmattan_Tips_and_Workarounds/ If device has been left untouched for too long may need to revive battery via Harmattan flasher:http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=87709 Please bear in mind in view of age of device that it may be necessary to set date of device to between 2013 -15 quite early in re-commissioning if eliciting "signature check failed" at any stage. 1) Flashing if needed, have a look here for firmware:http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=96401 and here is source of Harmattan flasher courtesy of coderus: https://coderus.openrepos.net/flasher/ Should WebArchive be very slow 001, 003 & 005 can be found here: https://mega.nz/#F!VvB1wDyZ!d1kjm6u0...eoIZg!MvBmXLBC and 009 here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8h38ukdgp3...8_ARM.bin?dl=0 2) Upon N9 open Settings/Applications/Installations, and enable the option 'Allow installations from Non-Store sources'. 3) Point N9 browser to this link to disable Nokia repositories after installation: https://openrepos.net/content/ancelad/n9-repomirror 4) Enable Developer Mode in Settings > Security which should install Terminal and SDK-Connectivity-Tool 5) Install N9QTweak: https://openrepos.net/content/schturman/n950-quicktweak 6) Redirect connectivity-test.ext.nokia.com to connectivity-test-ext.maemo.org via entry in hosts file:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...5&postcount=83 7) Disable Nokia account prompt when SIM in place:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=53 8) Bypassing Nokia account requirement in Maps & Drive:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...39&postcount=1 Since map servers were eventually closed in early June 2018 by German car makers consortium whom bought HERE mapping now prioritising Android & iOS, additional map data can be found for manual installation here:http://maps.tienda-sistore.com For any Mac users you do need to use recursive command in Terminal to combine regions/states for manual installation of mapping data. Unfortunately this tutorial can no longer be brought up to date due to lack of sufficient privileges, but gives the idea:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...c-cb77bcef0f06 Delving deeper remember that commonly used apps such as GPSMeeFo require you to reset date upon N9 to 2015 for installation and Coderus trusted Harmattan repository can be essential to track down missing dependencies when say installing BtInput app:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...66&postcount=1 At this point if not before you should install coderus aegis installer hack either via http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...79&postcount=1 or through N9QTweak Tweak EE > 2 (Coderus Aegis-install) to allow installation of apps. via HTML Code:
aegis-dpkg -i Here is example of installing btinput where Warehouse seems to fail locating repository so dependencies have to be sourced manually:http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=98797 Make text size larger in Messaging, tutorial in use of feature in N9QTweak:https://nokiaindependent.wordpress.c...ssages-app-n9/ |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Aspergerguy, I love you man, you're always there on forums i'm looking up with sincere and helpful replies (lots on Microsoft.com).
Because you're the dude for meego and symbian, pretty much a Nokia guru, I got this to ask you: what's better for security conscientiousness of the aforementioned two? while writing this, i'm not wearing a tin foil helmet, though I try to be security minded. Someone (probably some-many) wrote they use symbian because it wasn't compatible with a cloud-based interconnectivity--i'm with that.does symbian actually provide the security this person spoke of? Is meego any better/worse in this respect? My dilemma is that I love the n9, but it doesn't love me. On the other hand, I really like my 701 and it really likes me (if it's battery were better, it'd love me). What i'm getting at is that i'm currently using the 701 because it's exceptionally okay, but it's got no pizzazz, no flair, no spunk. Contrarily, the n9 has character, vigor, and actually potential (meego is open and living), but idk about it's faults, viz. inability to flash, constant battery hiccups, map funk, security uncertainty, etc. Can you sway me one way our another? P.S. Congrats on post 420 #LitLightLut |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Congratulations and thanks to all but specially to aspergerguy that helps keeping N9 alive

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
NOKİA n9 forever best, still using it and like mates any work for whatsaapp to work on it?
|
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
There will be never a new Whatsapp app for N9, there is not even one for Sailfish sadly, nor a good one for Telegram (the original developer of Sailorgram left). The only trick you could use is to have an always connected Android phone with Whatsapp running on it and using Whatsapp Web on N9. But, even if I was also using an N9 and liked it a lot, it makes not much sense.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Just bought N900 and I use normally whatsapp and instagram daily. Neither works on N900. Thought of that web whatsapp setup also but could not get enough updated browser for it. Same problem with instagram (or there are some apps for debian I think but had problems on updating easy debian version). Have to start to think that should avoid them if they are so hard to use.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Maybe a developer changes the fate of n9, has somedy heard any news from nokia corporation or hmd global that they planning their own ecosystem apart from android?
Samsung still planning its ecosystem, sony planning for sailfish, what about nokia? do they planning for new ecosystem? İt would be great if they would plan for linux based own label ecosystem maybe meego based |

I'm looking for: OpenSSL (newer than 1.0), Python3 (newer than 3.1). I need OpenSSL to get pip working, and I need Python3.5 because that's what Telethon requires. Oh, and the bindings for Qt. But then again what are we talking about, if we can't offer the newest tools to the developers, how do we think that developers will write programs for MeeGo or Maemo? for Python3.4 (might be sufficient) I've been hinted at devel-extras, but where is that? my apt sources look like this, as of now, and I find this quite messy, totally not in the line of a normal debian system, or what I have on Maemo: Code:
# CODeRUS mirror |

So for the N900 I would try to compile a new openssl best is to get a different devel package name like libssl1.0-dev. So go with debian package libssl1.0.0 which is a backported 1.0.2 version. After this I would compile python3-openssl and python3-cryptography. The python3-cryptography should be compiled against the newer libssl which is obvious because it is linked to libssl1.0.0. |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Hi there,
I just recently bought myself a N9 - and I'm amazed and thankful some people still use this georgeous. So thank you for your tutorial. Most of it actually worked :) BUT - I still have a big Problem! - Somehow I am unable to receive Messages from iphones! I've been searching the forum for quite a while now, but I was unable to find a solution - plus the "emojifix" is offline :( Can you - or anyone else help? :( Also: the Nokia prompt disabling didn't work... [QUOTE=aspergerguy;1541438] 7) Disable Nokia account prompt when SIM in place:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=53 Emojifix - after installation of harmoji_0.6.6_armel.deb need to install ibsms-utils0_0.5.17.3+0m7_armel.deb and libsms-utils0_0.5.17.3+0m7_armel-mod.deb from here via Terminal:https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=132 |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Hi there,
I recently got myself a nice N9 and I'm quite impressed - despite it's age. Since Nokia Servers are down, I was following the instructions for Flashing, RepoMirror, Warehouse, etc. It all works fine, but: SOMEHOW I AM UNABLE TO RECEIVE iPhone SMS? I read about this "emojifix" - but looks like the server is down... Is there any other way to fix this issue? :(:( ______________________________________ 5) Install N9QTweak: https://openrepos.net/content/schturman/n950-quicktweak What exactly does this N9Q Tweak do? In simple words? I am a graphic artist, not a programer ;) _________________________________ 7) Disable Nokia account prompt when SIM in place:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=53 This one actually didn't work ...:( _____________________________________ Last but not least: Does anyone know why I am unable to synch (via Mail for Exchange) my Google-account with the N9? I always get "Password or User-name incorrect" or "No connection to server" Thanks for your help.:) |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Re N9QTweak: Don't use it if you have no idea what it does. You could, however, have a look at the pic on the right under your link. The tool bundles a couple of more or less usefull tweaks.
For everything else, i'd have to charge my N9 first. |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Regarding N9QTweak I recommend to wait with usage until you know what it can do and/or destroy ;)
About Nokia account prompt: what exactly did not work? http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=55 Did you execute command(s) as root? Google sync and 'Exchange'? maybe I am wrong but do they match together at all? if so then it might be the N9 does not support TLS1.2 (still only SSL and maybe TLS1.1). But I never used that google thing but set up mail only manually... emojifix: all the info is bundled here https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94027 especially here http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=150 and on this page https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94027&page=14 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90750 But be careful: read about aegis before modifying system relevant files! --edit and I recommend juiceme's ubiboot (open kernel)... |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
actually Google and exchange used to work, but they stopped support for devices wanting to register for the first time, devices already registered can still use exchange

Yeah, I did ... but still that annoying prompt reappeared. My Main-Problem is: As I said before - I'm a grafic artist, not a programer... so most of the stuff written here is like alien language to me! Thus I was hoping for a simple (maybe Step-by-step) solution for noobs to solve this fr*** SMS-Problem without rooting, hacking or programming. All i want is it to work ;) Same for the Nokia-account-prompt ... :-/ Quote:

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
As this is an international forum the used language should be English.
And now back to English please. All the information is there install aegis-installer from coderus with this install the deb aegis-dpkg -i emojifix-deb That should do the trick. But I am using an aegis-neutered open kernel since long long time. With stock kernel modifying system files may malf your device. If you are not afraid of re-flash and start all over, go ahead. Else wait for confirmation of other members.... |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Did you also read the post from which you cädownloaded the deb files?
The emojifix.deb holds the original files. The emojifix_mod.deb the modified ones. So please install the second one. You do not need (should not) copy deb files tio /usr/bin. After download just Code:
aegis-dpkg -i /home/nemo/Downloads/emojifix_mod.deb |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

First of all - yeah, I did download both files. Then I did as written: First extract the Original file ("emojifix.deb") then the modified one ("emojifix-mod.deb") with your commands (aegis-dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/...). He extracted the files, said everything's fine, the I rebooted ... But still: iPhone messages won't get to my N9... :( One thought? Should I have installed Harmoji prior to Aegis-Hack? |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
@NightBall06, did you ever use your simcard in an Apple device?
Apple has this annoying feature that if you ever even once send or receive sms with an iPhone device it will register that number as an isms contact in Apple network and every sms after that from any iPhone will not be sent via sms but via isms and that is apple-only messaging... It's like they truly believe that once someone tries an iPhone they will never use any other device again... |
