Have it, and must say the first impressions are good!
The top menu raised a bit of a "wtf???" moment, but then come using it, it turns out to be quite handy (as well as convenient as you can access it from every screen, including the home ones!)
App start alot faster, phone feels smoother in general. Good job so far!

What about Qt version on SFOS3?

Re: Sailfish 3.0.0.5 Lemmenjoki EA

From https://jolla.com/sailfishx/ :

Quote:

Sailfish X is currently available for Sony Xperia X. On November 8, 2018 Sailfish X will be made available for various Sony Xperia™ XA2 variants. Up and coming is also support for Gemini PDA, to which you can already download a community version of Sailfish OS.
Do I have to wait 8/11 for my Xperia XA2?
Is it already available for Early Access?

sf 3.0 is so pretty, but jolla released 2.2.2 renamed 3.0.0. still lot bug in xperia x i can not upgrade to xperia xa2 if xperia x is not more stable. jolla is main focused on goverment targeting. i am planning to move to something more community/transparent & libre , like librem 5 , ubuntu touch.

They specifically mentioned the two vanilla versions in their community meetings, so I would be surprised if a fully featured image (ie. including Aliendalvik) is available at launch.

It's coming to the XA2, but there hasn't been any concrete assurances it'll come to the X so far (source: reading the logs of the community meetings).

Upgraded to early access version on Xperia X

+Top menu! Customizable with Ambiences or not.
+Swipe down to close application! Either right or left side of display to close app, center swipe pulls top menu down.
+More useful info displayed in top menu: WIFI access point name and BT connected device name are shown: it is all in the small details
+VPN Works although ipleak.net shows no IPv6 information, only IPv4 connected.
+The initial feel of “enhanced smoothness” and faster starting apps is there.
+battery consumption seems stable
+USB OTG works with Linux formatted USB stick. Notification, and file browsing, mount unmount options do work.

-Volume level setting of mobile device and BT headset still not unified
-Focus point of camera in moderate light does work on close by (20cm) but does hardly work on remote objects
-not sure about the Android VM version upgrade: Wire Secure messenger still shows “no internet connection”.
-No change in gallery though announced so I suppose
-BlueTooth connection to headset is not to stable as Sailfish 3 still seems unable to prioritize music play from Android Spotify without interruptions, even downloaded, non streaming content (sorry but Sailfish client Cutespot too broken at present)
-Fingerprints unlock no longer works for me but I fear this is due to a failing fingerprint sensor on the Sony Xperia X.
-mentioned upgrades like improved gallery, file manager etc.. nowhere to be seen yet..

I can be short. Upgrade is a must to have a taste of real Sailfish OS.

The change in usability is major, this is not 2.x in 3.0 disguise as a previous poster claims.

It seems playtime is over and Jolla has finally realized that the previous 2.0 interface flow had been an abomination and was undefendable towards the less than perfect Android or iOS one.
By this Jolla has remembered where their major advantage and opportunity lays in front of ignorant masses that don’t care about VPN, encryption, security or fair play, local (for some), non spying OS.

Now the intereface is actually useful and starting to feel superior again. I could recommend it to my mother or my 80 year+ uncle that still uses a 3310.
To topple the masses towards accepting Saiflish over the 100k+ apps in store iOS or Android a few more crucial applications may need to be elegantly integrated (think Skype on Nokia N900 style) or at least see native clients soon.
As for installing Sailfish: well good for the phone shops that are looking ot provide service: They can provide Sailfish installation service next to their hard job of filling out RMA forms, repairing broken displays and swapping SIM cards.

The interface improvement being so obvious and just a return to common sense 2011 makes me wonder what they have been waiting for? Intex India withdrawing their influence under which the, in all honesty, terribly broken Sailfish 2.0 interface came into being? Clearing uncertainty about possible lawsuits of by using same mechanisms as other historical and present OS?

Who am I to pretend to understand the "mobile business", I am only the user hoping to ever have something like an up to date N900 again. (Leste?)

Anyway, today I am feeling like looking for an XA2.

Interesting, that you see such a huge difference in UX.
What other thing has changed aside from the Top-Menu?

For me it doesn't feel much different.

Maybe it is not about change, it is about fixing broken user interface.

Change we had got with Sailfish 2.0. For the worse if you ask me.

We are all used to top down menu's since Symbian^3.
So it is not a major change, rather is a return of don't fix what ain't broken and this without touching the principle of sticking to a Swipe based OS.
Those Ambiences in 2.0 were taking precious space for nothing, now in 3.0 they share top estate with the most useful and needed functions (BT , Wifi, etc..)

Ever tried explaining your old father / uncle / grandmother where to find Wifi enable / disable or open torchlight in Sailfish OS 2.0?

Other major "change" or call it fix to enhance the swipe based OS:

The closing of apps by swiping from top down.

Besides that you can still hold your finger and close by clicking the individual crosses in the multitask screen, so indeed, no change for you just more options.

100% agree. To sum it up...
  • The top menu is an abomination.
  • This bug has still not been fixed, after more than a year and despite a major version bump :confused::confused:
  • The overall verdict: "meh".

I was going to ask you where on earth can you see that, since all I could see was this:

Attachment 40166

...but it mysteriously changed after a minute or so. I can indeed see the WiFi name now.
As far as I am concerned, unreliable labels are just another "meh".

Really? That has been there since day 1. Admittedly, not by default. You had to enable it in Settings.

Jolla1 updated without hitch
Jolla Tablet updated without a hitch
Jollafied Intex Auqa Fish only worked from shell

Intex Aquafish shows now another update of around 1MB but i can not update it cause Phone suddenly tells me System Data only had 471 MB free.

Noob question: What is safe to delete? Where are the updates stored?

As normal user i do not know what all the fuss for Sailfish3 big update is about.

Just deinstall one/two (bigger) Sailfish -not Android- applications (e.g. PureMaps and/or OSM scout modules) and you are good to go. Updage amd reinstall the applications.

Helpful (from TJC)m
Code:

###Jolla check repo system data

#devel-su
rpm -qa --queryformat '%{SIZE}\t %{NAME}-%{version}\n' > /home/nemo/Documents/pkgs.txt

ssu lr > /home/nemo/Documents/repo-setup.txt

devel-su du -x -a / > /home/nemo/Documents/filelist.txt

where the first command piped to sort -n will give you a list of packages sorted by size:
rpm -qa --queryformat '%{SIZE}\t %{NAME}-%{version}\n' | sort -n

btw: I am already down 202 MB free :(

Correct me if I am wrong, but now on the overview menu when you tap a space without an app, a quick show of the four top apps appears with enough time to select. That seems to me to be a new feature that was not mentioned, or was that in a previous update?

Re: Sailfish 3.0.0.5 Lemmenjoki EA

Guys, whats happening? help me!
Either this is a somewhat improbable coincidence or Jolla made a special feature to use the FP-Reader solely for convenience, as i kind of requested (at least i wrote about my usecase to not use the reader for security but for convenience only).
So, they touched the fingerprint reader inconvenience.
But instead of completely fixing the issue, they only slightly bettered the situation for users relying on the "security" aspect of FP-Unlock. For my (insecure) convenience, all is awesomely perfect right now.
Let me explain:

The issue was one having to press the power-button first to bring up lockscreen, then lift up the finger and tab/hold it again on the sensor to have it read and unlock.
Jollas "solution", introduce mce-tool setting that does not need the button to be pressed to activate the scanner/lockscreen but "only" tab on the sensor, then lift up and (~ONE SECOND LATER, when the lockscreen has fully loaded) tab again.
Code:

mcetool --set-fingerprint-wakeup-mode=always
So when using a pin code, not much has changed as you still have a two tap process, now with much longer wait between the actions instead of the need to actually click the first time.
Spiiroin hints in the tjc thread it might be a limitation in Xperia X hardware and not be solveable into a on action process with jollas means(?).

Now, i do not know if jolla has planned the following, but if you have registered fingerprints and activate the mce-tools setting above but disable pin code in settings, there is my requested feature to unlock to homescreen/last app by simply touching the sensor once, bypassing the lockscreen

Could somebody confirm?
Is it only my phone that entered this state?
1. register a fingerprint in settings (if not done)
2. mcetool --set-fingerprint-wakeup-mode=always (or =proximity)
3. deactivate unlock pincode (if not already)
4. check if phone fully unlocks by only touching the sensor (still not reliable regarding pressure and targeting and works best without case attached tho)
Thx

Re: Sailfish 3.0.0.5 Lemmenjoki EA

The most annoying bug for me is still there. Backspace inserts last written word instead of backspacing. Also a lot of the times I want to insert a word somewhere within written text, the keyboard disappears when I move the cursor to where I want it. I often end up just deleting everything and writing the whole sentence over again. This mostly happens in search boxes when I want to add a word to the search.

Oh, and bluetooth still sucks for me.

Glad they are still updating though, just wish they would fix these usability issues soon.
