Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Just bought another N900 with 15 Eur. From someone who had worked for Nokia. Who had got a bag full of N900s when their job ended. N900s were of no use anymore at that time. I think they said this phone was the last they had for sale. Some collector had bought a lot of them. Some with arabic lettering keyboards.
I asked if they emptied the phone and they said yes. Noot. Over 400 contacts, some pictures and many accounts trying to connect automatically, including gmail etc. Didn't want to straight to empty the whole phone but just emptied those account infos. Then started to check repos. Enterprise Pilot Package Repository https://hiro.nokia.com/repository/pr...rprise-tablet/ fremantle nokia-open nokia-closed modified ossw Haven't seen that before. Installed software/apps: Hiro Basic Enterprise application package for Nokia employees hiro-ocs-control OCS control script Trust Hiro repository Hiro repository application manager domain and public key. and enterprise-configurator Utilities to automatically configure certain aspects of a maemo device. Also many VPN apps with connection information for connecting remotely to different Nokia servers etc. Of course none of those Nokia based connections worked anymore and did not have passwords for VPNs. Just thought that want to share if these apps are not so common or someone would be interested of them. |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Interesting find!
Any special apps installed that you could extract? |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I think those that I mentioned are something I don't recall seen before. Or are they found in repos?
|
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Told ya Maemish....
Lotta questions...people will have... And if there is any way of extracting half of what is in there ... It will present possibly interesting findings, possibly allow easier inclusion for ...goodness knows what...actually... It is quite the find...and an unknown quantity and quality ...at this point. |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I have NEVER seen those in the repos...
Nokia devels had dark dark secret trapdoor passageways through the underpinnings of the infrastructure... I KNEW IT! :D Where is Conspiracy-Theorist-Dave??? He will definitely think alien interstellar hybrid sea cucumbers are behind all this. :D |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I just thought of flashing it clean. Should I not then? I'm like Mr Bean with N900. So don't ask me to extract anything unless you wan't it to be lost forever. Maybe someone else could do something? Anyone from Finland here? I'm willing to send it to someone to check even though I think it may be dissappointing and not having too much extras inside.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Nights to ya all. It's one and gonna wake up at six so have to get some sleep. Gonna check tomorrow if someone would have some suggestions here about this.
|
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I imagine a few people will mull over what you have suggested...
I am too far from finland to count.... the other side of the planet almost ... |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
no don't flash it.
wait until someone comes up with a good idea...before doing anything with it. |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
You could dig around the filesystem to see if there are any cached Deb files. It's possible being an internal device that some settings might be different and the original debs are not cleaned.
/home/user/MyDocs/.apt-archive-cache/ /var/cache/apt/archives Then there's dpkg-repack, which may not create 100% exact debs. Other than that, it might be worth generating a log of all installed packages and Maemo version information to see if there are any updated or different packages |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
If you absolutely definitely feel the burning desire to flash, at least install Bootmenu and make a full backup first.
|
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I think I will send it to someone to check. Maybe endorsement would like to look at it. Just would like to get it back someday cause it is in good condition.
|
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I would love to look at it ...butr that is besides the point..
For goodness sake ...maemish ...send it to someone closer to you .. than me! I think virtually everyone in talk here is closer to you geographically than I am. HtheB is....pichlo is ...juiceme is... etc. Not to mention we are currently undergoing a strike by our Canada Postal workers, I would be hesitant to tell anyone to send anything ...right now. I appreciate it, but for logistics alone pick someone closer that wants to inspect it. And I do VERY MUCH think that device needs a proper forensic inspection, what it could tell us could help us ....a lot. |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
@Maemish,
I could check it if you live anywhere close to Järvenpää. :) |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
@Maemish The guy that sould you the phone has more to sell ? 15 € seems a good price, I never had a N900

I would take 10 or so... :D (seriously) |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
I wouldn't mind one of these "alternate universe" n900's to look at either ...
But I will happily wait for the findings...and apply whatever cool stuff can be acquired... 5 n900s is enough for me...plenty in fact. |

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
And I think they said mine was the last they had. This was my fourth N900. Max prize was 30 eur with the original packet with manuals, headphones, usb cable and replacement battery and charger. They normally ask 50-150 eur but I wait until there comes an offer and then strike

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Established audio contact with juiceme. Delivery time set. And checked and noticed there is one backup from 2010 so there may be something also. So maybe first to check everything as is now and then recover from backup and check if there is something more.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
And decided to try to contact Nokia Maemo developers if someone would know something usefull for leste. Googled a bit and made a phone call and the guy from opensource community promised to check if some older Nokia fellas could say something.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Thans @maemish, we met briefly and he gave the device to me for inspection.
Here you can find the filesystem dumps of mtd partitions and mmcblk0p1; www.swagman.org/juice/maemish_21112018.tar I did not include MyDocs yet, as I need to go through it first to see if there is any personal stuff that I'd need to purge first. Is there something else people would like to see? |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Some straight forward ones. Maemo version and output of dpkg -l to see at a glance if there are any new versions of packages (esp closed binaries) hiding away.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Today bought remotely 4 more N900s with 45Eur from a russian lady. Friend tested and said that three booted normally as the lady had told me. Waiting to see if could get the fourth one to work too. Don't know their history or whatis inside. Probably could get one more with 10eur. I think I will stop for nine phones untill there comes more bargains. Not yet sure what to do with them but to save them is a current mission.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
There's like 4-5 right now on sale but their are from 50-150 euros. I wait for the cheap ones and check once in a while online second hand sales here in finland. Not gonna pay more than 15eur each. Some of those prizier once have all the bells and whistles though plus some also chargers for extra batteries and stuff with all included in original box. I just don't need them.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Had a quick browse through to see if anything stands out. From what I can tell: they used public transport, they liked installing themes and Maemish is lucky it still works as they've been using N900Fly.
There are some wallpapers that look like they originate from Nokia that I don't recall. That doesn't mean a lot as I've never changed from the default bubbles. Theres a few apps that stand out. maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\bin\ cisco-decrypt cp-nemo epconf epconf-abook epconf-mc-tool epconftool pcf2vpnc rdesktop rdesktop-m5ui rdesktop is in extras-devel. Having just looked at the latest deb though, it does not create rdesktop-m5ui. Our package is dated 2010-02-09 14:10 UTC where as the guide mentioned below is dated 2011-02-03 so it would appear this is customized/updated. Remote Desktop Guide: maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\share\rdesktop-m5ui\ maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\share\epconf-sets\blue\ (Has a link to some related files, but doesn't seem to work). Nemo? Has control panel icon. Banner mentions Check Point Software Technologies, who bought Nokia Security Appliance Business in 2009 (https://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/1...k_point_nokia/) maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\usr\share\icons\hicolo r\scalable\apps\ Other icons in various size (18x18, 64x64) folders maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\share\icons\hicolor\ Hiro VPN: maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\sbin\ maemish_21112018.tar\maemish\mmcblk0p2\opt\maemo\u sr\share\pixmaps\hiro-vpn\ |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Thanks, it is good that someone with knowledge goes thru the dumps to see if there are some hidden gems :)
My own competence mainly lies in the very early boot stage, usually before the children of init inherit the world :p I assume I can return the device to @maemish now, as there probably is nothing more to dig out from it. |
Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
So you took everything from the current setup as well as from thr back up?

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
To save some time/ guess work regarding package info, did you manage to get dpkg -l (small L) output? I'm by no means an expert on any of this. Depending on apt cached db you might be able to get a list of available packages from the unknown repo.
I don't see much use in the other apps, given their age as a security product. The rdesktop-m5ui could have use if rdesktop is still actively maintained for Leste. The other VPN related bits, we would probably still be better off building up to date openvpn. I seem to recall someone even suggested it as a built in icd2 plugin. |

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
Anyone to check? I checked it halfway without understanding at all. If you don't understand anything you can continue from there. If you do understand start from beginning.

Re: Nokia N900 Enterprise Version
So, rdesktop is via rdesktop-maemo 1.6.0-2maemo1 and rdesktop-m5ui 1.0. Maemo repo is via rdesktop 1.7-maemo3. I only did a version check so i haven't looked at sources to see if patch for Maemo UI is in our version. We also have rdesktop-cli which could be equivalent to rdesktop-maemo. Haven't gone into Diablo/Chinook repo to see what we had there.
