Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
What i personally liked most about this competition and the variety of photos is whenever someone elaborates a bit on the story behind it and thus getting to know you as the photographer a little bit more.
To encourage you to give a little caption with the Photo i thought about how to make that easy without crossing the line to this becoming a social media cheesy kind of experience. So here is my question. Why do you enjoy living where you live, what makes staying in your place worthwhile? Give us a hint with your photo of your all local attractions. Be it the super early strawberries in your region, the subway station only a few steps from your door giving you freedom, nicely relaxing landscapes, familiar landmarks or underrated spots in your city? Even if you hate where you live, show us what might attract locals and tourists or on the contrary things that help you stay alive as your very very local attraction :D Rules are as usual:

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Not to many days left of March, so here's my contribution.
My very own and very local attraction. One of few remaining outhouse privy's on these latitudes. Built 1929 and of course not in use anymore. I just can't make my self take it down. :D Sailfish X on Sony Xperia X and stock photo app. Crop and rotation in Gimp. https://svenskasprakfiler.se/show/outhouse_privy.jpg |
Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Nice one eson.
I can see Kalle Blomkvist hiding somewhere :D Exactly 6 days to go. As much as i could cope with this being a failed theme selection and declare a quick winner on 28th already, i would love to see more Photos! I am holding my picture back until the next contestants entry ;) |

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Well, i might have a weird mash-up of Lindgren stories in my head. Pardon me.
After seconds of research i now know i actually ment "Emil i Lönneberga". He is translated to "Michel" in german for unkown reasons. |
Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
https://mosushi.de/misc/photocomp/ma...ndcontrast.jpgSo here is my picture. Took it outside of our big super market mall centre. The sub of Helsinki city where I live is named Kannelmäki, kannel= a 5 string ancient instrument, and mäki= a hill. But this area is so filled with dogs that it has been given a nickname, kennelmäki. If you like dogs (as I do) it is great 'cause every day you can see a lots of different dogs and get to play with them. On the other hand there is a fallback: many people do not gather their products from the street. So even though the look of this dog is probably because the dog is so ashamed of what it is wearing I interpret it that it is the counter shame of their masters who leave the products on the street: so sorry but I can't pick them by myself.
N900 stock camera app + mild cropping and adjusts of brightness and contrast. https://mosushi.de/misc/photocomp/ma...ndcontrast.jpg |

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Hep,
Thanks very much Mosen for this theme and I must say that every picture I have taken the previous competitions are taken from the yard where I live... So it was difficult to come up with new items of local attraction. Anyway, this month have been dark and rainy but today blue sky was also here with little clouds... First i looked up and then down... and I found something... Picture is not perfect but it doesn't hurt the story behind it... http://huispaus.ucs.fi/tmp/19030016.jpg ...which is a beautiful song by a Finnish artist telling about sustainable love. https://lyricstranslate.com/en/kaksi...two-trees.html <- Lyrics and tube-link... N9 with stock software... As usually... |
Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions

Unfortunately, sharing in general got broken on my device at some point. Can't share pictures to MMS, email, etc. Or contact info, for that matter. When I try to share a picture, card, etc., I see no accounts available for sharing even though they are there. I can receive pictures just fine, whether by mms or email. Contact cards too. If I were a frequent picture texter, I'd have probably already reflashed sailfish, but I'm not, so I haven't. |

Can you share the taste online? Really should get the taste and not just a glimpse of this picture? Very hard to form an opinion. It seems kind thick liquid.

It predates Pilsner by centuries. It is a bit thicker because of less filtering than others. And has a much shorter shelf-life than highly filtered styles. The name Weisse / Weissbier / Whitebeer is in comparison to historically very dark beers. This is general info about Weissbier. Here you can buy Alpirsbacher. EDIT But mind the special way to pour it in your glass :D No idea of the detailed taste of this brand, Fellfrosch might elaborate. I prefer "Helles" because i can drink much more of it. With Weissbier i feel full after two bottles, also the noticeable yeast taste is not mine. |
Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
@mosen if you don't like yeast in beer, stay away from Alpirsbacher Kloster Weisse. It has a very rich and soft taste with some sweetness and the yeast note is stronger than in most other brands.
Drinking more than two bottles is easy, if you are trained to it and Weissbier ist veeeery common in southern Germany. ;) Funny enough I normally prefer dark Weissbier which is a contradiction to it's name. But the dark one have a malty taste which I like very much. |
Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Here we go:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7912/...69a94864_o.jpg] My daughter and I slogged across the just-melted lawn to try to get some good photos before sunset. I picked my personal favorite for my entry. This installation is of course called "Shuttlecocks" (1994) and is a bona fide local attraction. At least one other photographer was shooting here at the same time, and there are a number of people wandering around the sculptures just out of view. The birdies are ginormous, 586 cm long x 487 cm diameter, and give the impression that a group of giants has been playing badminton using the art gallery in the background as the net. IMHO, the fanciful installation makes the gallery much more approachable -- before they were there, it seemed more fortress-like rather than inviting. I wish the mall, or esplanade, or whatever was a little greener, but turf grass is still dormant here in March, so ya work with what ya got. |

But what do I know, to the experts it is a 'nice use of the "rule of thirds"' :p Quote:
PS I have a similar example from some years back. The company I was working for at the time was rebranding and the head of marketing did a presentation on the new features. One of them was widening the spaces between the letters in the company logo. His justification was that it conveyed the idea that we are more "open". My reaction? A complete BS. First of all, I would not have even noticed unless I saw the two logos side by side and second - wider spaces = more open? Really? It may possibly mean something to other marketing directors or typographical buffs who eat and breathe this stuff but outside their small bubble, no one really cares. I asked a few colleagues who also attended that presentation and all their reactions were exactly the same as mine :) |

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Thanks for all your cool local attractions!
I chime in to the architectural side of the topic which is not that hard to find here. Only a good foot-walk away we have renaissance style Schloss Hülchrath from ~1100 which we visit often to picnic and chill. It underwent 7 stages of construction you can spot with a schooled eye and has quite a moved history including drunk monks, lots of burning witches, raiding knights and last nazi resort. Shot with XA2 and Piggz Advanced Camera. Sadly HDR did not work so i did some leveling in Gimp. https://mosushi.de/misc/photocomp/20190328_160726.jpg Reminder, voting phase starts at 20 utc! |

Re: Camera phone competition March 2019: Local Attractions
Oh no I missed that the deadline was 20:00 UTC.
Was far to busy with Pirate Party stuff this month. Well no reason to keep my image from you. Taken with my Nokia 808 , cropped and scaled down. https://i.imgur.com/SdUIBJr.jpg It was taken at the "Faschingskonzert der Studentenvertretung" in Munich. This an awesome concert near the end of carneval time, where young talents present their musical skills ins surprising ways while mocking current politics. Its always a great joy to watch. My vote goes to mosen, the castle with its vines and the weeping willow looks like right out of a fairy tale :) |
