Why so many N950s missing rear covers?

Hi all,
I've seen a few N950s for sale on Ebay and most of them are missing their rear covers. Why is this? Are they prone to breaking?
Cheers :)

Probably lost the screws when removing cover to charge BV-4D battery.:D

That said SIM slot door usually falls off as retaining strap of the thinnest plastic if ever been opened. As well as SIM adaptor being a total nono, be very careful with latest three in one SIM as grooves can catch pins also. Trick is to slide thin strip of cardboard between SIM card and holder contacts before releasing SIM. My advice would be to always remove 4 x T5 screws securing rear cover to access SIM slot.

@juiceme yes those black blotches are also very common!
@aspergerguy good point, maybe that is what happened. I just thought it was strange and wondered if there was a more complex reason, like the back panels are removed by some people for normal use and so if there is one being sold without the panel it probably means it's stolen... or something even more sinister!

Good tip about the SIM pins and modern 3in1 cards.

Wow. I just Googled N950 ebay and saw a seller was asking over $1000. Is that the going price for these ancient relics?

That's normal free market economy working for you, just about any stuff that is rare and having a fixed supply is going to gain value if there is non-null demand. The second that demand ceases the value will start decreasing.

Missing rear cover ....
There is written not for sale. Was it meant for the rear cover or the whole device:) Maybe you have a better position to argument and to make excuses for the illegal sale.

Or maybe the phones are from a lab. And they needed permanent access to the inside connector. Then the cover got lost or due to laziness never mounted back.

This is by far the best theory here. And following the logic all the way home, the seller could still include the cover as a free gift with purchase. The flip-side of the dead DRAM stick sold with a copy of Windows.

To keep it legal, maybe the seller should sell a pen for 1000€ and offer a N950 :D

Another mystery right up there with the sock-eating-dryer

Ha ha. So is there a statute of limitations for how long you can not sell? Can you give one away? What if you sold it for 5 cents? So you sell the phone without the back plate and include the back plate for free?

EDIT: In Maryland statute of limitations is 12 years for sealed contract and 3 years for unsealed. Did the folks that originally got the N950 sign a sealed contract or not. If not, maybe ok to sell. At least in Maryland! Someone familiar with Finnish or international law in regards to contracts?

IIRC I did sign contract to receive the N950, it is a loan and we have to pay 500€ to Nokia if we fail to delivery it back upon Nokia request :p

Re: Why so many N950s missing rear covers?

It is worth investigating the statute of limitations on the contract signed and the enforceability of the pay on demand clause.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statute_of_limitations
https://e-justice.europa.eu/content_...mits-279-en.do

My opinion form reading the above is that a certain point the Nokia N950 recipients are no longer bound by those contracts and the devices become abandoned property in your hands so you can do with them as you please.
Of course this is an uninformed personal opinion not any kind of legal advice.

What was the date of the dev contracts to get a 'free' N950?
